Did we deserve a penalty in that game?

Ronaldo should have got a pen.

The pen called on Shaw was right. I don't have a problem with it but it's ridiculous the VAR didn't check for Ronaldo's one.

1st vs Coufal after looking at again I will say it should've been a pen
2nd one (84th minute) there is nothing in that
3rd vs Zouma is a stonewall pen

The AWB incident was nowhere near a pen, he was closest to the ball and Soucek reached around him.

I don’t know where the shout for 3 comes from, but the 2 that everyone is talking about were stonewall penners. How they escaped VAR boggles the mind.

I don't really understand even with the new pen rules how the 3rd call wasn't a pen. The first one, okay maybe it would've been given last season but they messed around with the rules, so I can see why they might say no.

The Shaw one was a pen, they've been giving those for a while. It's a bit unfortunate because he can't really keep his arms by his side while doing that, but whatever.

with the scoreline firmly in hindsight and in great spirit of magnanimity I can see why the Ronaldo's penalties were not given and I am fine with it.

Wait a sec. Are you saying the last pen incident shouldn't have been reviewed?
No. After the uproar about Var pen incidents last year by fans, that's why this is what it is. I've moaned last year about it, you probably have. Everyone on here probably has. This is like this cause of us fans

The one on Ronaldo at the end is so blatant. The Shaw one was a penalty but it should never have even happened.

I know the handball is technically a penalty but I just hate seeing penalties for when it is clearly not a deliberate hand ball.

Ronaldo one in the last minute was as stonewall as you get.

Hard to see anything other than the red trying to stitch us up for the laugh.

Ole should call him out. Fergie would

I think 1 and 3 were Stonewall penalty and 2nd one was just simple pull

Deserved two. Then again i thought the awb tackle was clumsy and warranted a pen, clearly got away with that and the Shaw handball rightfully given. Bizarre refereeing
Exactly, they just seem to have given up on VAR apart from offsides and handballs.

If we dropped points after that 3rd tackle there would’ve and should’ve been riots.

We should have had 2 for the obvious fouls on Ronaldo. The pull on him from Cresswell wasn’t one for me though.

I thought AWB was lucky to not give one away and Shaws for handball was correctly given.

Awful refereeing performance

2 pens were easy decisions. Obviously if the first one is given the maybe the sequence of events leading up to the 2nd doesn't happen. In isolation though, 2 easy decisions they were

Was there three? I only remember Coufal and Zouma challenges.

I didn't think the Coufal one was, just because Ronaldo looked to run towards Coufal more so than where he knocked the ball. There's clear contact but I think Ronaldo has played for it. Might've been given last season.

Zouma's challenge was just poor and out of control, clear foul. I really thought it was going to be given, even by Atkinson of all people.

We should have had 2. Theirs was a pen too, annoying as it was. AWB very lucky with his foul in the area too.

We deserved to win that game though, and it was a good win, West Ham are decent.

3rd is a stonewall pen
Yeah that’s Spot on

It’s crazy how we didn’t get the 3rd

But then we wouldn’t have gotten the unbelievable drama of DDG’s save

The second one (Zouma on Ronaldinho) wasn't a penalty for me, Ronaldo was already going down well before there was any contact. It was a dive more than a penalty, the first one by Coufal on Ronaldo was a clear as day penalty. Don't know how that wasn't referred to by VAR.

First one was debatable, the second one was a stonewaller.

I said it in the main match thread, I don't see any English ref giving Ronaldo a penalty this season.

Ref should be punished Imo, for not even considering VAR review… the game just can’t always let the ref plays GOD role.
While I agree the refereeing was shit, you do understand that VAR reviewed all of the penalty claims tonight, right? They just only recommended pitchside review for the handball

Does anyone have a Vid? Won't be popular but I thought Ronaldo was going down before the contact on both occasions.

Feet up at home.
If that was a new young ref he would be in the shit for the last one. It was blatant and mind boggling VAR didn't reverse it.

The first one would have been a soft penalty, probably the correct call.

The second one I thought was a stonewall penalty, though I've only seen in once.

Their penalty was stonewall too tbf.

So one each would have been right.

Ronaldo was pulled a bit in the box at one point. I guess people mean that. It didn't look very likely, mind.

The last one was absolute stonewall. Truly baffling that with VAR that isn't overturned. How on earth anyone can look at it on a replay and decide its not a penalty is a mystery.

No complaints about the Shaw handball, that was always gonna be given.

I have to disagree. That's an obvious one to review. I mean if you can't review that, then why have VAR? Although it blows my mind it wasn't given live to begin with.

Last one on Ronaldo was 100% penalty, the previous two I don't think so.

It's really concerning to me how it wasn't given by the video ref or not even asked the pitch ref to check, it's such an obvious error and clear pen, it's either serious negligence to where the person needs to let go or there's something underhand going on.

Ole needs to bring this up in a calm fashion and ask for an investigation.

Both Ronaldo's were penos. First ine was debatable at first but the replay showed. Coufal literally stopping Ronaldo by stretching his leg.

2 fouls, 2 penalties. Even those who argue that the first one wasn't... it had to be checked on VAR. The fact that they didn't is the most disturbing thing, Atkinson was more concerned about his "confident" appearance then he was about the game.

I agree it should of been reviewed pal. Thing is and always will be is that VAR is just a person with his interpretation. Take the first incident with Ronaldo! I personally feel it wasn't a pen, yet people on here are calling it stone wall. Obviously the dick on VAR doesn't think any were a pen. Touching on my previous point though, I do think VAR are trying their best to stick to the refs decision as much as possible. I thought West Ham should of had a pen which went as a foul in our favour? VAR left that one as the ref called it on the pitch and that boggled me most today.
