I think in instances like v West Ham when we're trying to break down a low block. Both would show more energy, desire and track back than Martial regardless of ages. Was that Ole indicating we might see CR and Cavani on the pitch at the same time, or did I misunderstand his version of partnership?
Yes, that's possible ...when we are camped outside/edge of the opponents box, having them two creating havoc would be great!!I think in instances like v West Ham when we're trying to break down a low block. Both would show more energy, desire and track back than Martial regardless of ages.
That said, both are penalty box strikers so it's hard to see them not taking up similar spaces.
Ronaldo played alongside Benzema so can't see it being an issue. A front 3 of Ronaldo/Cavani and either Rashford or Greenwood would give defenses fits.I think in instances like v West Ham when we're trying to break down a low block. Both would show more energy, desire and track back than Martial regardless of ages.

"Four four feckin two"....Was that Ole indicating we might see CR and Cavani on the pitch at the same time, or did I misunderstand his version of partnership?
He did respond immediately back then.Klopp made his comments back in January about United's penalties. Ferguson would have responded immediately. Unless I've missed something, Solskjaer has taken 8 months to fire back.
I'm not so sure tbh, the amount of times we've seen Ronaldo pick the ball up corner of the box and driving in, they could combine really well.I think in instances like v West Ham when we're trying to break down a low block. Both would show more energy, desire and track back than Martial regardless of ages.

Cavani regularly played RW at PSG to accommodate Zlatan and Ronaldo can play wide so it could be one on a wing and one CF or we could play two up top with each drifting to their respective wings.I think in instances like v West Ham when we're trying to break down a low block. There's no point taking much of what Ole says in pressers at face value. He also said Chris Smalling would be reintegrated into the first team squad and Alexis Sanchez would come back and surprise people. After Wednesday night's game he was bigging up Martial. So he plans to play Cavani and Ronaldo together? How, Ronaldo on the wing?
Only way is a diamond and Greenwood on the benchI'll love to see Ronnie and Cavani up top too, but how can we fit then all in with Pogba, Bruno and Greenwood?
I think effectively it'll be something like what we play with Rashford on the LW. Ronaldo will stay forward most of the time. Pogba (/LCM) has to shift and cover defensively on the LW. Fred will occupy the space vacated by Pogba and Cavani will drop into the space vacated by Fred.3-5-2?
Assessment of the season so far"It just shows the angle you're looking at and thinking, I'd rather score four or five or two and concede one than win 1-0. We're still working on the cohesion with Raphael coming in. Working progress, we wanna have clean sheets to build performances from as well, we know we're gonna score goals, hopefully I can answer at the weekend with a clean sheet but it is being moved on, of course."
Cavani and Ronaldo experience"It's early doors but it's important the first two months you're not giving teams a head start and so far 13 points, decent return, scored quite a few goals, still things to work on and there'll be difficult challenges ahead, but we've laid a foundation to build momentum and hope to do that against Aston Villa. First defeat but then hit form and deserve more points."
Cristiano Ronaldo already undroppable?"It's exciting and exciting to see those two together, I'm sure that'll be a good partnership as well, we see teams dropping deep against us, not giving space in behind and they're two boys you'd like to see in that scenario, I can see those two working well together."
Solskjaer on the Ryder Cup"We knew he was gonna have a great impact on and off the pitch and Cristiano is still so professional, the discipline he's showed throughout his career to make the most of it has rubbed off on teammates. Been delighted, he's a different man now to when I played with him.
"He's been absolutely top, work-rate, attitude into games, communication, he knows he's not going to play every game but that's a good chat to have with me when he won't be ready."
Solskjaer suggests Jurgen Klopp comments could have influenced their lack of penalties"It is too late for me to jump on that bandwagon! I won't be biting my nails for sure, I have got more things to worry about."
Safe standing stance"We just have to hope we get what we deserve, we should have had three pens in the last two games, there was a certain manager who worried about us getting pens last year and after that the decisions were different to give, I've seen a big difference since then on. Leave it to the refs and make the right calls very soon."
Edinson Cavani in squad vs Aston Villa"I know we are supportive, we wanna trial that, as long as the safety is in place, standing, for me, gives the atmosphere builds, when you stand up, you're more passionate and emotional so I'm looking forward to that if everything goes to plan."
Cristiano Ronaldo importance"He's in the squad tomorrow, he's been training and now he feels ready to contribute. He came on against Wolverhampton, then he got a slight strain in the international break when we had a game and he's ready again. he's worked really hard and diligently and hopefully he'll have an impact as he did last season."
David de Gea's return to form"I think Cristiano has been used to that ever since he came to the club, maybe more in the last 15 years of his career, in his first few years everyone tried to kick him because you wanted to stop him and then he became such a top player everyone had to have an eye on him, his record, he's used to that challenge, we're a team, more than just Cristiano and the players I've got to choose from would enjoy if they had too much of an eye on Cristiano, it might give space for others."
United team news vs Villa and Cavani role confirmed"He did call me in the summer to end his summer holiday earlier and come back and start his pre-season before, he wanted to be ready, the best possible version of himself.
"Last season was a challenging one, he didn't play as many games because Dean came in and did very well. David has really worked, focused, physically and mentally he's better and when you feel you've done the work, personal best, a few physical tests, it gives you more confidence and motivation. He plays behind a strong back four but to play in front of David when he's in this form is good for them."
https://www.manchestereveningnews.c...r-united-press-conference-highlights-21663873"Edinson has joined in training fully after that game [on Wednesday] and he’s held his hand up and is ready," Solskjaer told MUTV.
"Last season as well, he didn't have a pre-season when he came here. He's so professional and meticulous and, of course, we're glad to now have him back training with us and in the squad.
"We didn't lose anyone on Wednesday night," he added. "It gives me selection headaches [smiles], which is what I'd rather have than the other way around. Sometimes you have to leave players out that you don't feel deserve to be left out.
“But that's the nature of the beast and we've got to make sure we are ready for every single game."
Yes and coming across as a prick to non utd folks. Just get on with it.He did respond immediately back then.
However in the last few games we have been denied clear pens so he is now reacting to it again.
Seriously?Yes and coming across as a prick to non utd folks. Just get on with it.
Who cares?Yes and coming across as a prick to non utd folks. Just get on with it.
... because "non utd folks" loved him so much before.Yes and coming across as a prick to non utd folks. Just get on with it.
Who cares about non utd folks?Yes and coming across as a prick to non utd folks. Just get on with it.
Who cares what non utd folks think and the refs shouldn't. That's the whole point, the refs should do their job and not be influenced.Yes and coming across as a prick to non utd folks. Just get on with it.
This. Such a WUM in these pressers is our Ole. Funny thing is after the fact, no one calls him up on it.There's no point taking much of what Ole says in pressers at face value. He also said Chris Smalling would be reintegrated into the first team squad and Alexis Sanchez would come back and surprise people. After Wednesday night's game he was bigging up Martial.
All Ole's answers are designed at promoting squad harmony, diffusing journalist questions or diverting attention onto something else e.g., today reminding people Klopp moaned about our penalties. Much easier to blame Klopp than blame the referees but the effect will be the same: scrutiny on penalty decisions we're denied gets increased.
Anything he says about systems, who might play with who or who might not play, just take with a pinch of salt.
You're weird. His job is to win matches and if this gets the team some penalties then it works. Who cares who is laughing.Well put it this way, we would all have been laughing at klopp if it was the other way around. Just saying.
What a surprise. The Liverpool (and Pep) loving sycophants at the BBC turn this into one of their main online stories.
What? He didn’t say that. BBC are awful.
As opposed to people who come across as pricks to United fans?Yes and coming across as a prick to non utd folks. Just get on with it.
Honestly, as a player, I'd start getting worried if Ole praised me lots in a press conference. Loads of the time when he does that he's softening the blow of getting dropped.This. Such a WUM in these pressers is our Ole. Funny thing is after the fact, no one calls him up on it.
Well to put it another way if you check social media he has been getting slaughtered by United fans over the last few days for not saying anything so once again he is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. Fact is, if he sits there with his mouth shut it carries on, Klopp clearly put his finger on the scale with his whining (god that man can whine) and so unless Ole speaks up the refs will continue to consciously or unconsciously be biased against giving us decisions.Well put it this way, we would all have been laughing at klopp if it was the other way around. Just saying.
It'll happen against the Newcastles and Burnleys of the league that turn up to Old Trafford and sit in their box, most likely.I'll love to see Ronnie and Cavani up top too, but how can we fit then all in with Pogba, Bruno and Greenwood?
I can believe some refs are fans of other teams and/or not keen on Utd and this could influence decisions, but not unconscious bias of what Klopp said.Well to put it another way if you check social media he has been getting slaughtered by United fans over the last few days for not saying anything so once again he is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. I think the journos are the ones who asked about it, and Ole gave his diplomatic best. Not sure if he actually has any such plans himself. So he plans to play Cavani and Ronaldo together? How, Ronaldo on the wing?
I would normally agree with you. But the timing was rather conspicuous last season when we started getting obvious decisions against us after Klopp started moaning, and the same the season before when Lampard complained right before the FA cup semifinal.I can believe some refs are fans of other teams and/or not keen on Utd and this could influence decisions, but not unconscious bias of what Klopp said.
He pretty much did say that, come on now. And there's nothing wrong with it either. After the decisions in the last couple of games, he needed to call them out one way or another. What? He didn’t say that. BBC are awful.
So if Lampard, Pep, Klopp talked about us getting more Pens and Ole in his quote said "Certain manager" but why has the Media point Ole's quote towards Klopp was he the first at the time to point it out?I would normally agree with you.
