I was being genuine and sincere, apologies if it came across that way, but I genuinely was looking for some advice as to how to become a better poster, as to not have my posts come across as wummy. I genuinely want to be a part of the discussion and not seen as some sort of wind up merchant. Again, I was being sincere.

I wasn't talking about you becoming a better poster, I was asking for your help as to how I can become better. I wasn't criticising any of your posts. I was saying 'if you willing to of course' as in if you are willing to help me [become a better poster.
Ok, this certainly looks like a piss take, but I'll indulge!

I'm certainly not someone who would hold any standard of good posting, tbh  Again, I wasn't asking you to become a 'better poster' - I have no idea what your posts are generally like. I merely noticed you had posted two fairly wummy posts in here, which I quoted in my last post. They looked like they were designed to trigger a reaction. If they weren't, then I'll have to take your word for it. However, engaging in debate is always far better than those 'throwing a grenade' type posts. What I mean by that, is posts that are randomly thrown into a thread, and look as though they were designed to trigger a reaction.

Apologies again about the thread in the General, for some reason I thought you were a part of that.

When ever you cant take it, you can always ignore the issue and reply with "2nd, 2nd, 2nd". Straight out of book written by Jose acolytes, same shit just different posters.
There is a good reason why lots of different posters point this out and that is because it is the undeniable truth, fact.

I hope Ole succeeds and takes us all the way. I think it is crazy to talk about sacking before end of September.

Can he do it? We all have doubts, maybe his job is done and a great job he has done. Then again he may not be done yet and this season after he has built something and got backing is the time to tell.

Cheers.

I really have not changed my view that much really and its wasnt like Villa was some sort of turning point or eureka moment for me. I've always maintained the stance that he should stay in the job as long as i think its beneficial for the club and that has not changed at all.

I honestly think hes done very well in bringing stability and crafting a squad that can compete for the top prizes. Now that part of the job its done and its time to put that squad to purpose and actually compete and ideally win those top prizes. Thats also why i was so staunchly opposed to the club sacking him last year and the year before, because it might have undone the whole rebuild project and put as back at square one.

Now though, we have a squad that is filled to the brim with top talent and a great mix of youth and experience so the bar has been considerably raised for Ole in my book. Especially after adding two serial winners in Varane and Ronaldo and of the most coveted young players in the world this summer. When Ole took over from Jose, icant imagine any top manager would wanting to touch us with a 10 foot pole, where as now i'd imagine we would have plenty of suitors considering the talent we can field

Tl;dr: I think hes done admirably in steadying the ship and creating a top team, now its time to use that top team to its full effect and Villa was not it
Yes, it's really where I'm at too.

I know your stance hasn't changed, but your honest enough to offer up some critique. Some are just staunchly sticking to their viewpoint, and not deviating whatsoever, which doesn't do much for a good discussion. Because of posts like some of yours, I've seen some brilliant debates over the last few days. Long may it continue, as people constantly at each others throats for 15 odd pages, isn't very enjoyable to read!

Ffs though this is going too far now. He's a middle of the pack manager. He's alright. He's done a good job here and has gotten us back to being a stable top 4 team. He likely isn't capable of getting us to properly compete for the title in a league with Pep, Klopp and Tuchel. It's fine. Not many are capable of that. Of course we need to strive for that, but let's not go overboard on criticism, as Ole has done a good job in his first couple of seasons.

When he took over, I had hoped he would turn us back into a steady top 4 team with year on year improvement, good recruitment, and leave us with a squad in a good position to make the step up to a title challenge. I never thought he'd be the one to take that last step. This is what has happened. It's important for the club to move on at the right time and pick the successor well, but that doesn't make Ole a failure either.
This is probably the definitive take on the issue.

100% not a piss take, I don't know how else to be more genuine haha!

They weren't they were, in my opinion adding to the discussion, but thank you, maybe I can use this and form my posts better, or at a later date to avoid coming across as an intended grenade type post.

It's totally cool mate :)

We sacked Moyes immediately after it was mathematically impossible to get top 4.

Van Gaal had a mathematical chance of making top 4 all the way up until the last match. I'm 100% sure that the only reason for why the club didn't sack him right after this was because they didn't want to shake things up too much before the cup final. But his fate was very much sealed after failing to get CL football.

Do you really think the club just randomly decides to sack the manager out of nowhere? There will be certain minimum demands.
I don't think the decision to sack the manager is a collective decision, I think, from the way things happen, that a decision is made between Woodward and the two Glazer siblings in charge - either Ed is given the instruction to sack or he seeks permission to act from them.

The top four threshold is not cast in stone but I think the earlier contracts had that in place and they just took the decision because the clause made it cheaper. If a manager missed top four whilst having a promising end to the season they wouldn't get sacked but if he has the team on a downward spiral they would take advantage of that clause for obvious financial reasons.

Honestly, if we get 14 odd points from the next 7, which if we play decently is achievable (wins vs Everton, Leicester, Watford, Spurs and a couple of draws vs Pool/City/chelsea or 1 win in those 3 games) - I'd go on a limb and say, while there may be meltdown on here for being a few points behind the leaders, but we're going to be in the title race come next May.

Our run after the Chelsea game straight till City game in early March is what will define our season, and maybe even the difference in whether Ole is in the dugout come next August or not. That is the fixture run where we genuinely need to put a run together and try and get 2.5 points/game- 3 wins and a draw every 4 games or 1 loss and a draw every 8 games. Do that right, and I think we'll be doing ourselves a huge favour in the title race

Its not good reason at all to point it out when subject of discussion or complaint isnt a league position. Just a bunch of either trolls or desperate deluded folk that have no counter to issues that others are pointing out at, so they reply with league position.

Will give you example: Jose era, Liverpool vs United, final score 0:0. After the game, people had a go at our PERFORMANCE, as it was piss poor with most coward attitude you would ever see. How Jose acolytes replied to it? They tried to defend Jose, telling others how they are crazy to be unhappy with a RESULT 0:0 vs Liverpool away.

I'm checking the previous bit of posts and see a large contingent of folks saying Ole is not the right one to take us forward.

On that basis, who do you bring in to the football club?

How do we maintain the heritage and philosophies of Man Utd with a new manager. I think Ole has done a great job of bringing that back to United.

Prior to Ole, it was really difficult to get hyped up about watching the team play each time - it was poor football and the result was always in doubt.

We need to give it time - season has just begun - a new CEO is coming into the club - operating principles like transfers and style of play need to be embedded into the fabric of the club as whoever manages United next need to abide by those core operating principles for the club.
Outside of a few loud ones, very few are suggesting we sack him NOW, but its been a pretty underwhelming start to the season so far and considering the vast amount of talent he has at his disposal now and the time hes been allowed the expectations are high and rightly so.

If it goes tits up and we crash out of the group stages in the CL and look the be out of the title race, i hope he has the sense to step down himself and let someone else take over the reins. I agree that its early in the season and hopefully things improve, but considering hes up against Pep, Klopp and Tuchel we cant afford to have to many of the performances we had on Saturday

On the topic of who takes over, i hope the club has the sense to make their due diligence and find "the perfect" replacement, whoever that might be.

I would probably take that seeing recent form to be honest. Last season versus big teams we dropped so many points, we tend to do well against City and Chelsea though so I am somewhat hopeful.

Our league form isn't that bad if we're being completely honest - however, the style and comfort isn't up there. 13 points from 6 is acceptable especially when a few new players are still settling. One of the draws/losses turns into a win, and we would have been at 2.5 ppg.

The thing is we need to stop playing heroball and start playing as a team. Pass the ball to a player in a better position instead of taking a hopeful shot from 30 yards out. The game vs WHU would have been a lot more comfortable had we done that, and the Villa game could have been over in the 1st half had we just looked up instead.

Ofcourse there's CL as well and I hope we win the next 3 games there so that we aren't under immense pressure there

I was more referring to how we've played given the contrast of Leeds, Soton, Wolves, Newcastle, WHUM, Villa versus Everton, Leicester, Pool, Spurs, City, Watford. Although agreed re points total being very good regardless; 13/18 would translate to an 80+ point season which I think we'd all take in a heartbeat.

I would still be surprised if we don't get out of the CL group, I think we'll have enough to win the majority of the remaining games there.

I am not convinced on Ole and think he has reached his ceiling. However, I feel all the good work that he has done so far should not be forgotten & disrespected. Not only has he built a strong team & overhauled the squad, he has also brought hope and optimism. We have had some really good moments on the field: PSG knockouts and the initial run, the run post Bruno before and after the lockdown, deep cup runs, a decent finish in the league last year. Fans should be able to criticise his tactics, decisions but should not disrespect a club legend who has done more good things than bad on the balance.

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
As long as Ole is here we'll have to hope that the Glazers keep spending money until we've such a good squad it makes up for Ole's shortcomings. With the oil clubs around I doubt that will ever happen
Chequebook manager in every sense. He doesn't even have a fraction of the tactical acumen of Pep and that's a term he gets labelled with  Some of our fans are so deluded when you think about it...

Well I guess this next month will be very tense for him. If he fails to get out of the CL group and is at the same time trailing behind in PL he should get the sack in my eyes.

Why did Ole tell everyone that we were changing formation this season and then play the same formation as last season in every game? What happened for that change of heart?

I've been 'Ole in' for the most part but the EL final was a big warning sign and after the summer we've had losing to Young Boys (even when down to 10 men with an inexcusable mistake to gift them the winning goal), going out at the first hurdle to West Ham's B team at home and then losing at home to Villa a few days later all raises concerns further

I've said all along Ole wouldn't win us titles but he'd leave the club in a better place in which he found it and he's done that, what I hope now is that we don't undo that work by replacing him with someone like Conte and anyone calling for him just feck off now you fecking idiots because that would literally be hitting the rewind button back to before Ole joined

I've no idea who the next manager should be but it can't be someone with a history of being nothing more than a quick fix and certainly not someone synonymous with defensive football. Has to be an attack minded manager capable of dealing with the pressure of being at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Like I said I have no idea who that is, answers on a post card...

I don’t know who that is but the club should be on the lookout for whoever that is . Rather than sacking Ole & getting into the temporary manager stuff again we should have some people already on the list . That’s how good clubs should be run. It doesn’t matter if it unsettles Ole but in reality the people running the club should be able to do this without it getting to Ole .

The PSG game where he refused to sub Fred was my first warning sign, but I still had a few hopes. And then the EL final happened and we lost almost soleley because of the manager's in-game management. And with the YB game and West Ham game, it is quickly looking as if the time is up. I wasn't really shocked/sad after the Villa game.
It all feels like start of that period, during Jose/LVG , where results no longer started hurting me.

Villa was a bad one for me, it ruined my entire weekend, I was horrible to be around for my wife and daughter, really shitty weekend for us all

Have been Ole out since he was appointed permanently but he should only still be in the dugout next August IF he finally sends Carrick & McKenna to get some lower league experience whilst he brings in someone proven alongside him, also only plays one of McFred when Donny is either suspended, injured or just in need of a rest.

Zidane would fit right in with all this attacking talent and a central midfield conundrum to sort out immediately

So you've wanted him out for the last 2.5 years and was only willing to give him 2/3 months before you decided his fate?

Anyone that chooses to play 3 central midfielders at home to a mid table club deserves severe scrutiny even more so when the result and performance is dross. He’s going into his shell more and more worryingly

Yeah I am because he didn't implement those coaching changes soon as he got in the job, honestly think we would have seen less up and down periods with him if he had brought some experience in back then

You seem awfully confident about Zidane, what is that based on? Because all I've seen from him is being successful with one of the best club sides of the modern era with one of the best players of all time leading their attack

I don't think he deserves to be sacked, nor do I expect him to be anytime soon. He has built this star studded squad, so if this season is a failure, then the failure is firmly on him. I feel he's been afforded a very fair amount of time and resources to rebuild, and failure this season, would warrant the sack. I hope it doesn't end like that, and he can leave on his own terms. However, if things go really tits up over the next 12 games, he has to go.

I'm not really a fan of us sacking managers mid-season, and I have no idea what the data is like, in regards to whether it usually works or not. We saw with Chelsea it worked wonders and the same with us when we sacked Jose for Ole. Obviously, there will be some kind of new manager bounce, but it's about proper sustainability and not a short term bounce. Our next appointment needs to be so well thought out, and the fear is if we sack Ole before the end of the season, we will make another rash, impulsive decision that sets us back again. On the flip side, if we have a really bad next 2 months, the Boards hand might be forced.
Worked extremely well for Bayern with Flick and Real with Zidane with mid-season sackings of Kovac and Rafa.

Sometimes, the club has to take the bullet.

The problem is that my(and others) preferred successor is already at a club. Don't know if there's any example of a big club poaching a manager from another club during the season.

Agreed. We should at least improve on our points total from last year. Just having Ronaldo and Varane should give us >74 pts. That doesn't even account for improvement in players like Greenwood, injury free Rashford etc. Anything above 80 or so is historically a title challenge.

I was hoping we win against AVL and maybe pick up the draw against LEI / EVE but it wasn't to be. We should (and can) win the next two.
