Ole will probably say something about him being patient because we have a big squad, many games so chances will come but it's all bullshit. I don't see Donny being given a chance in the next 10 games.
Ole, for a manager who seems to be good at building a squad, is handling this poorly.
I suppose we might hear something about that situation once van de Beek inevitably leaves.

See out a game which wasn't won at the time ?
Poor phrasing from me. “See out the game” as a makeshift LB as Telles had to go off. Van de Beek wasn’t going to be doing that.

Atleast he gets to warm up now.

He shouldn't be coming on today. Lingard came on and changed the game along with Cavani. Fred came on as a LB.

Matic is a better no 6. If Bruno wasn't getting subbed he wouldn't come on. Both Matic and Lingard had good cameos so you can't really blame the manager.

And to those suggesting that Mctominay was bad, he was slot better than Pogba who got rightfully subbed off.

Bet if Donny read this thread, even he would be baffled how his “performances” page has 57 pages for a guy that basically never plays.

Irrespective of anyone’s opinions on his ability, can’t blame him for fuming after being denied the chance to play elsewhere, then seeing the absolute gash performances in front of you in midfield, and still can’t get a start or subbed on.

He might not be a 6, but I’m sure he can play it better than what we’ve seen from the others so far this season.

Martial doesn't deserve a lick of gametime and he has already been given plenty. Donny deserves it, but he has not been given any.

The kid needs to hand his transfer request and leave. There's nothing for him here. Just wasting his career away.
The point is not different both players should have been sold or gone last summer. We have two players in every position now without even including Donny and Martial.

Can we report Solskjaer for workplace bullying? Because this really seems like it
He’s as culpable as anyone for his lack of minutes. We’re out of the cup, in large part because of his shoddy defending for the West Ham goal. I’d rather go through in the Champions League than give charity minutes to players.

Exactly, it would be different if our other midfielders were playing well and creating chances but I seriously doubt anyone could argue Fred, McTominay or Matic are currently playing well (and will arguably never the be of level we need to return to the top). There's literally nothing to lose by giving him a chance right now, nothing.
That's why you have to feel sorry for the lad and also wonder what else is going on.
In games such as tonight and against Villa on Saturday, it's blatantly obvious that our midfield was lacking creativity and we have a guy who was one of the best, and most creative, midfielders in the champions League when we signed him, sitting there, rotting away on the bench, it's an absolute farce.

It’s not even funny we’re wasting the guys best years he should be in his prime right now.

We literally exited the Carabao because he was sloppy and should have done better for the West Ham goal, then did little to get us anything up the other end. I’d rather not lose further games in the league or exit the CL in the group stage.

I don't have any idea what you're talking about. He performed very well against Young Boys before being taken off and we absolutely dominated the midfield with him against West Ham. And this is him without getting ANY run of games. Certainly deserves to warrant a start over either McTominay or Fred...
And we lost both games.

Alas, he isn't the player we thought we were buying, he just doesn't fit into the team or the way we play.

I'm hoping in some different dimension that Koeman gets to keep his job until January and we get to offer then VDB whilst we go for De Jong. Just not going to happen is it.

Why the feck did we not sell him if we are not playing him? Clueless coaching and management. It's not like he has Verratti and Modric ahead of him.

I'd be pissed too if I were him. One of the worst feelings as a football player at any level is knowing your coach just doesn't want to play you because he's plumping for his favourites.

There's nothing he can do at this point to save his United career. He's a centre midfielder, not a striker or a winger. A team oriented centre midfielder as well, instead of being someone like Gerrard for example. He can't just come into the team, score a couple of goals to put pressure into playing him more consistently. Whatever he does in the little games he'll play would have to be in a team context and that just does not seem to put enough pressure on Ole to give him the games he wants.

I'd be handing in a transfer request if I were him to be honest. Barcelona could be interested. Playing with Frankie De Jong seems a tad more enticing than Fred or McTominay.

So unappreciated. Feel so sorry for the guy. Especially with the mcfred midfield getting in front of him.

I realise he hardly sets the world alight when he plays but I’m not sure he knows entirely what the game plan is. Just like the rest of us

he will be sold in the summer

You can write him off if you want to, and point to the few matches / minutes he has played.
But he has never really got the chance. And no, it's not getting a chance in a Carabao Cup game with lots of other reserves and players coming back from injuries. No match rhythm in that team, it's impossible to perform.
He has never got the opportunity to play consistently for 4-5 matches. You need that to get match sharp and really settle into the team and play. Everyone that has a little knowledge about football knows this. You might like Donny or not, but he has never got a real chance.

In which case he should have stayed on and we would have won for sure...just like the West Ham game.
yeah, didn't say that at all.
Just pointing out that saying he didn't have anything to do with one of the loss that you attribute him to.

But hey, I guess that didn't fit your narrative.

Vdb deserves to get more starts, as does Cavani:

(Ronaldo or Rashford) (Cavani or Greenwood)
Fernandes
(Pogba or Mctominay) Vdb (Fred or Matic)
Shaw Maguire Varane Awb

It’s photoshopped jeez it’s even a bad photoshop and people are reacting to it
No wonder fans are wound up that he’s not playing, must be faster than billy whizz to get from the dugout to the far corner to join in that celebration.

And people pretend they watched the game.

Donny isn't a 6 and better than Fred or Scott is a gamble Ole isn't gonna take. Donny will be his chance as an 8 when inevitably Pogs leaves. In my opinion, that's why he was bought when it looked like Pogs was going previously.

Even the steward thought he was a fan.

Haha the tv commentator mentioned a fan running on to the pitch after Ronaldos goal, maybe it was him :)

Anyways, not being able to integrate a talent like him is such a big failure imo.

Doubt he was told he'd sit on the bench for two years just incase Pogba left.

Our midfield was non-existent last night, don't see how giving him a few games could make it worse tbh.

No they won't. They already have some very promising young midfielders. I don't think VDB is better than those.

Hopefully he gets a chance to leave in January.
He's not getting a sniff under Ole and the way a large majority of our fans are happy to continue "progressing" under Ole, we will be seeing him here for a very long time.

He certainly needs to get out for the sake of his career.

That's not what I said, most of us thought Pogs was gone over a year ago. The comments from his camp pretty much the same. Only COVID changed the landscape and Pogs options has left him up in the air.....
Giving him a few games for who? You think him and Pogs are a pairing and wouldn't have got overrun?

Honestly why are people so focused on VDB career? I don't get it......
