Why do so many of you want Neville to turn on his friend?

It's sky sports not the news ffs, almost all the "experts" are ridiculously partisan.
People think Neville controls the United board from sky sports. If Neville says to sack him the board will listen.

Can someone remind me, did Neville ever criticise Moyes, LVG or Mourinho?
He criticized LVG and Mourinho, but did not call for them to be sacked.

He was very much Moyes IN as he has been Ole In, finding all types of excuses why they need to be backed and continue as managers.

He doesn't call for them to be sacked but it is bizarre that he doesn't criticise the managers directly. If he can slander player performances then there's nothing wrong with calling out a manager. Not sure why he sees it as okay to slander players but calling out a manager is stepping across the line. You can criticise a player without demanding that he needs to be sold or leave the club just as you can criticise a manager without saying he needs to be sacks.

He doesn't need to be extreme but he's was just tying himself up in knots yesterday and it was embarrassing to watching.
Not trying to defend Neville, but trying to figure this out and there's only one possible reason.

Players usually get sold due to the manager wanting then gone or them forcing a move elsewhere.

Managers on the other hand can lose their job due to things like fan/media pressure.

Souness/Neville/Scholes can say Pogba is shit all they like, won't make a bit of difference.

If they all turn on OGS, it would contribute to him being sacked...

Gary needs to be taken off the Utd games, as he is unable to give an unbiased view which is what he is paid to do.
Yeah, and whilst they're at it, take off all the Dippers for the Dipper games.

Saying we tried the big manager route with LVG and Jose so it won't work.

I'd accept that if they both left and were successful elsewhere but they are both clearly past their best
Even if they did it’s absolute nonsense.

The conclusion that he draws from two great managers failing here (and let’s just disregard the very obvious fact that they were past their prime for argument’s sake) is that Manchester United, for the rest of the clubs existence, should just go after shit coaches, because the good ones failed. I mean, in what world shouldn’t the club go for the best available coach every time it is looking for one?

Yeah i don't get it, he's never going to do that and it'd be a bit dickish if he did.

I find he always says it in the subtext anyway. Yesterday he spent most of the time saying our tactics are shit and look how great Klopp is, that should be obvious to everyone what he means.

Agree with this. Its weird.

When you're on the way down people tend to put the boot in. However, imagine its your mates doing it?

I can get why the media and rival fans would want that. Its great craic for them. But for United fans? Its weird.

I hope to God that I'd never see a mate in a bad way and stick the knife in, just for the sake 'objectivity.'

One day Gary Neville won't be on SkySports but he'll still have his mates. Perfectly understand him not trying to push Ole off a cliff. I wouldn't do that to my friend either.

I'm just wondering if he refuses to say anything against Ole because they're mates or because he just doesn't want to put pressure on a United manager as he stated a while back...
It's not just utd managers. He defended wenger to the bitter end. He will not call for any manager to be sacked in his role as a pundit.

Even sourness said the same yesterday.

This was in relation to conte. He doesn't want us to fire ole and appt conte. He's basically saying keep him to the end of the e season and appt a long term manager in the summer.

The way his voice gets higher and higher when he talks nonsense is just weird, was like listening to the beegees when he was arguing against replacing the staff

It's nonsense that he only protects his mates, he just talks complete shit when it comes to sacking managers. Probably a hangover from his traumatic time at Valencia.

Remember when he went bananas when there were rumours about the club sacking Jose?

This fecking comeback of his all the time when the issue of replacing the manager is brought up is so illogical. The thing is, you know full well he thinks it’s this slam dunk retort. Some gotcha moment that immediately shuts down any argument. But it’s really not. It’s just a superficial, illogical comeback yet he continues to use it.

Instead of assessing the managers on an individual basis he, for some reason, lumps them together into one entity. Instead of looking at them as individual managers, he combines them into this homogenous blob of “established, world-class managers" and says “see, we tried that, and it didn’t work” as if we should never go down that road again. How about we actually look at the individuals and asses it on that level, rather than “we tried hiring an established manager and that didn’t quite work out, so let’s just stick with what we got and not do that again.”

It makes no sense at all. It’s a good job we don’t have that attitude to players. Well, signed an established striker in Falcao and that didn’t work out for us, so let’s not sign an established striker ever again. He’s a fecking idiot with that argument.

I've got no problem with his refusal to ask for Ole to be sacked. He's criticized the team and the coaching. I don't need him to go on live TV and ask for his mate to be sacked from his job.

I never thought I'd imagine the day where I'd much prefer listening to Jamie feckin Carragher than our former captain. You'd think he supported a rival club by the way he rushes to the defence of our underperforming coaches.

Yeah, it's like he's trying not to go into managers because someone will mention him his Valencia stint.

There's much wrong about club's owners and board, but with all the money spent over the last 7 years or so, all our managers since then should have done better. They didn't and were rightly sacked. Simple as that to me. Pep got all the money but his team is performing. Klopp got few expensive signings and delivered both domestically and in Europe. We've got few 2nd place finishes in the league (miles behind champions both times), Europa League and 2 domestic cups. Not enough.

Nobody does.

It's about this deluded obsession he has with never hiring a good manager ever again because of LVG and Jose.

"Jose mourinho was the best manager in the world and he couldn't do it" - as Neville said last night. A frankly deranged opinion given that Mourinho was nowhere near the best in the world at the time following his collapse at Chelsea.

His views will always be subjective to his personal relationship with Ole and this Mates FC thing they have.

In reality however it doesn't really change the likelihood of Ole staying or not as he has no real impact, it just goes to further antagonise an already enraged majority who disagree with his view.

He was hilarious yesterday when he seemed to keep responded “but.. but… Mike PHELAN” with increasing pitch every time Carragher was making a point.

Neville has been a clown throughout all of this. I can't help but feel that Ole has been reaching out to his mates in the media ensuring that they have his back.

Sky sports and BT Sport.
Nah I have premier sport. Point still stands pundits should be fair in their analysis. Who would have thought that Carragher would become the voice of the Utd fans not only with the Ole situation, but with the superleague also

I think his latest behaviour has hit heavily on his credibility as a pundit, and is becoming bit of a joke. The super league reaction earned him a huge credit which I think he managed to squander.

Stop wumming, you know why we're frustrated. Neville constantly throws our players under the bus to defend the manager because of his obsession with the 'United way' and it's tiresome. It's not about getting him to turn on his mate, it's about wanting him to discuss the situation more objectively and not just accuse our players of being shite and lazy and throwing the manager under the bus. Up until now these players have bailed Ole out time and again.

Populist bullshit and as if Ole’s goal had anything to do with his managerial skills and job he’s doing as a gaffer, feck me it’s embarrassing - if you would’ve said 22 years ago that most of the class of 92 that I have idolized back then would turn out to be egoistic cnuts with little valuable to say I would’ve said no way.

This might be considered wumming too as I'm not a United supporter but I think Duffer is making a fair point. I know why you're frustrated, but a lot of the comments in here about him defending his mate ignore that he did the same for Van Gaal and Mourinho. I've seen him do it for other managers, he's obviously not comfortable with calling for managers to be sacked. I'm not saying he's right or wrong to have that stance, or that people can't disagree with it, but he's obviously not taking that stance for any insidious reason. And about discussing the situation objectively, he said everything but to sack the manager last night, he pointed out a bunch of problems he's had with the side this season, including Solksjaer.

Teddy Sheringham had more role in us winning the treble than Ole but no one would want him as a manager.

Also, how is Boris Johnson related to any of that? He's literally just throwing shit at the wall and hoping some it stick.

Christ, what a precious clown Neville is being over all this. Whataboutism and trivial, unrelated, nostalgic nonsense to deflect from the fact that Solskjaer is completely and utterly out of his depth as manager of an elite football club in the current era, or at least one which we should be aiming to be.

I posted this morning that, when the dust finally settles on all this, Neville needs to be reminded of his misplaced hope and the numerous inaccurate positions he’s taken, which as a prominent football pundit and clout afforded to him as an ex-United player, is an extremely dangerous situation we find ourselves in. The damage could be irreparable if Neville and the Solskjaer cultists get their way.

Then admit he can’t have rational opinion about United and excuse himself from covering United game. Can’t have both ways.

What's really annoying is that Gary's been particularly vocal about utd being a 'weird team' for months now - i.e. not displaying any obvious and consistent way of playing. Whose fault does he think that is? We're not talking about some potential knee jerk sacking of a manager after only 6 months either. Ole's had more than enough time and backing to get this team where he wants it.

Gary Neville had had a disastrous day and a half. He was ridiculed and laughed at live on the air yesterday and made things worse for himself with his obstinance and emotions. You would think he'd stay away from the limelight, but here he is embarassing himself on twitter.

The shameless way he is defending his buddy is because all these ex players want their share of United pie. This is what keeps them relevant. They want to be the movers and shakers if United. Absolutely disgusting.
