Funny - just rewatched the first series there with the other half. It's such a fun show to begin with. Debra is the worst though.

As bad as this show became I am excited for this

Original screenwriter and producer (Clyde Phillips) left after season four (Trinity Killer) to become producer of Nurse Jackie and was replaced by Scott Buck who left Nurse Jackie to do Dexter.

What's interesting is that Nurse Jackie was bang average under Scott Buck, yet was excellent under Clyde Phillips, which mirrored how Dexter was excellent under Clyde Phillips and bang average under Scott Buck.

I really can’t remember 98% of this show - is it worth watching through again? Were seasons 5,6,7 and 8 as bad as I remember?
Same, I know I loved this show but was really long time ago, can barely remember it. I might just find a really long recap, 8 seasons is a bit much, especially considering my already long backlog.

5 and 7 were okay. 6 was bad. 8 was an extended hallmark movie.

5 was terrible just because of how pointless it was. Go from 4 to 6 in terms of story and you dont miss anything.
Everything after Trinity became a blur.
I can remember the main antagonists for s1-4 but after that I just remember Julia Stiles, Tom Hanks son, laguardia, Bautista sister, the stupid treadmill scene with the bad acting and then what happened with Deb in the final season (oh and Yvonne S is hot)

Trailer didn't look to bad, though really shows how much I forgot about the show.

Where has his son been the whole time?

Cant wait. As bad as the last few seasons were, I still was looking forward to them due to the character of Dexter and the possibility we could have a good season.

Hoping with the same people behind it as the first few seasons, we get something that is fun to watch, and a bonus if its awesome.

Loved the first episode.

Very, very good.

Loved it when the inner monologue came back.
Also loved the relatively subtle references to the old Dexter. The donuts, sauce on the frying ham etc...
Cinematography seems to have evolved too.
Also his new girlfriend is nice....

Thought it was a classically basic and average Dexter episode. I was curious to see what they’ve learned but it was the same style of incredibly basic dialogue. So much exposition with regards to the guy he killed as well? Everyone just absolutely spills their guts about him to give Dexter the perfect amount of info he needs. I knew instantly he wasn’t getting properly pulled over, I knew it would be Harrison and I knew the awful CGI deer would be shot by the rich kid as soon as he got close to it.

I genuinely think I could’ve written all of that. Rubbish.

I thought it was OK. Good episode for setting the ground for the season. Or at least I hope it turns out like that.

Yes, all the points you mentioned were predictable for me too, but it was still a satisfying Dexter episode, really liked it.

Things being predictable doesn't have to mean bad. But judging by your first sentence, you never much liked the series?

I loved it up to the end of S4 but there have now been more bad/average episodes than really good ones. It’s just… basic.

Ooh Dexter has a meat cleaver. Oooh but wait he’s just giving it to a friend. Oh look he’s getting pulled over! Haha fooled you it’s his girlfriend.

It's Dexter not mindhunter. Some shows just aren't meant to be that deep and edgy.

I thought it was a decent comeback. It showed enough that he's a changed man, an 'evolved monster' that can live a happy family life in a quiet town.

At the same time though he's always been hiding his dark secret and keeping it at bay - until that moment makes him snap.

Will be interesting to see how they keep it going. I assume he gets fed info from his girlfriend to find new targets etc.

The first two were revealed in the various trailers so I'm glad they got that all out of the way in the first episode.

Honestly though, I'm glad Dexter is back. The last series was such a shitshow and so far for me this is scratching that Dexter itch I had. Juat sad that the Morning Routine intro is seemingly gone for good.

My guess is this is a one season and done thing with Harrison killing Dexter at the end of it.

Yeah not a bad prediction, I’m guessing that Dexter will become Harrison’s mentor the same way Harry was to Dexter when he finds out that Harrison is also equally broken as Dexter.

This is what I'm on about though. It's the most obvious route. A baby would come up with that. Why even make this, just imagine it.

What would've been funny is a whole season of him just being a regular person doing mundane things. Just 10 episodes of him serving people at the shop and picking up milk on the way home.

Well done to the casting director/whoever's decision it was to cast Dexter's girlfriend as the near spit of Jennifer Carpenter/Deb in terms of mannerisms, looks etc.

I really enjoyed the first episode of the reboot. It was like having an old friend back. I am glad they didn't screw it up.

I had no idea until this morning that Dexter and Deb were married and divorced in real life.
