That's his best trick - keeping the fans on side. Selling Fellaini for example as soon as he arrived... Probably thought 'oh shit, better start playing Donny' after the reception he got against City.

They've had a week holiday but yet will now start him on the back of 2/3 days training.
His best trick is telling you what you want to hear.

That applies to the board, the players, and the fans. Why do you think he told VdB and Lingard that they're a part of his plan? He sucks up to Glazers and tells the fans that he's doing things the "United Way" and "attractive football", etc. when the actual display on the pitches do not reflect anything close to it. That's his brilliant man management.

We should help Ole out by having a poll on the official website before every game who should start. That would leave ole to only focus on his magic; "go out and have fun ladz".

Surly the worst manager in the history of the PL?

His team finished 3rd and 2nd in the past two seasons…

Out of the hundreds of managers who worked in the league since 1992, how does that possibly make him the worst?

There is 0 middle ground, either he deserves time because SAF got it or he is the worst manager in the history of PL.

fecking hell, how can a manager who finished 3rd and 2nd in PL be worst in history. Yeah he is not good enough to win PL but all this "Worst in history" is nonsense.

We have managers who spent shit loads of money just to finish 6th, 2nd and left team in 6th place, then we had manager who spent shit loads and finished 4th and 5th. Then a manager who took champions to 7th position.

One player I think will benefit from managerial change is Jessie Greenwood because he will play more while Ronaldo is rotated more often. Ole doesn't have the balls to rotate Romaldo.

If you want the short answer to that then I think that the worst manager in PL history is Ten Hag predecessor at Ajax ie De Boer. The guy got sacked after 5 games at Inter, he got sacked after 10 weeks at Palace and he couldn't cut it at Atlanta United. The Ajax guy is a specialist in failure and had been branded by Mourinho himself (not devilish or kps88) as the worst manager in EPL history.

The longer answer to that is complicated. The EPL can be broken in 3 ie top 4 contenders, mid table clubs and relegation teams. Each 'block' requires a different managerial skillset. For example Big Sam does well with the relegation teams but would struggle with a club like City while I can't see Pep managing Burnley to safety.

Ole had failed spectacularly with a relegation team fodder and had won nothing with United despite spending 415m there. Getting to top 4 twice in a row is of little comfort considering the money we've spent. Wenger achieved that regularly with a fragment of the budget and we still used to laugh at him.

Okay, so he's the worst among managers who have managed a top side, spent a certain amount of money and not won a trophy. This season hasn't been good, but I still feel the progress made under him has been more than under Moyes, LVG or Mourinho. But I get it's an arguable point.

It's a far more reasonable argument than saying he's the worst PL manager ever. Lots of names come to mind along with De Boer for that title. Steve Kean, Tony Adams, Bob Bradley, Ince were all out of their depth from the moment they got the job.

This is plain untrue. Ole took a very bold decision and benched Ronaldo for Everton, but then the whole media and pundits attacked him for it, and then SAF had to go ahead and do the most stupid thing possible, by saying Ronaldo should always play.

If he drops Ronaldo now, he's finished. SAF played a hand in it, sadly.

The irony of the whole situation is the holes in the ship were filled and now it's on the verge of getting undone. The ship can only take this much strain before another year goes by and then it has to be rebuilt again.

The club's situation reminds me of roads in Bombay. It needs to be rebuilt every year.

Feels like the people in charge of the club are masking their lack of ambition for trophies with talks about long term planning and "culture."

I gave the short answer to that question and the man in question is not Ole.

Regarding progress that's pretty subjective tbh.

A- transfers. I used to use LVG's transfer successes to bash Moyes and Mou's transfer successes to bash LVG. That was until someone pointed out that we should wait at least 12 months before we label a player a success. Under such perspective all talks of Ole's progress regarding transfers come in new light. Maguire and AWB wouldn't look anywhere near to good signings, Bruno would still be labelled as one although he had regressed while we spent good money on Telles, VDB, Diallo and Pellistri and they had barely played.

B- tactics and coaching had regressed

C- youth talent. The only kid Ole had given his debut and played regularly is Greenwood.

D- dressing room. Ole had improved us massively on that regard

415m + 3 years in exchange of two top 4 positions and less toxicity is certainly not good enough.

What I think polarise fans is that Ole the man and Ole the manager are two opposite people. Ole the man speaks of United DNA, youths, the importance of a huge squad and attacking football. Those who still believe him see him as the right man for the job and the most suited man for us since SAF. Ole the manager is cautious, he plays shit football, he gives jobs to his mates, he plays the same small pool of players up to exhaustion, he dupe players into signing for us and then not play them and is terrified to give a run to kids. Fans who see through those lies label him as a hypocrite/liar and tend to go extra hard on him

Whilst I'm starting to dislike Solskjaer more by the week, I'm not entirely sure he is a hypocrite or a liar purposely. I genuinely believe he's just a really bad manager who is completely out of his depth, and as a result he panics and makes it up as he goes. That leads to inconsistencies, and lack of conviction in what he says. I think it's what causes him to smile so much aswell; it's a nervous thing he uses as a defence mechanism to handle the pressure. It's another sign he's not cut out for such a big job.

I'm not sold on the idea he has improved the dressing room. According to various reports we have something like 5-7 players wanting out, players pissed off at the manager for picking favourites, players unable to handle criticism, players publicly saying they lack belief, and still nothing to show the squad has the mentality to win a big trophy. If turning the club into a massive circle jerk about the United way counts then sure but I don't think our dressing room has a winning mentality and that has to be important and count for something.

For some these factors don't matter in the way of some good 'ol manager worship.
Klopp finished second after spending over £300m

It takes investment to finish above 18 other teams in the Premier League, it doesn’t make you the worst manager in history.

I’m sure the use of the K word will have the Ole-haters (I’m distinguishing from regular Ole-outers, as the haters seem to actually loathe the guy) foaming at the mouth so to clarify - I am not saying Ole is as good as Klopp, just that saying he is the worst PL manager ever is plain idiotic and providing a bit of context as to why.

The difference is that United spent 115m more on top of a better squad then the one fount by Klopp and despite all that we're playing like a pub team

I doubt that there are people who hate the man, just the manager

This place is going to be the pits after his press conference today - whatever he says. Those with a weak disposition will do well to avoid this place in the hours after.

I pity him now. You can see the haunted look on his face. Not knowing when they are going to pull the rug under him.
I really hate the owners for putting him thru this torture. A man who is a legend as a player should never be tortured like this.
Just let him go.

Feel like we missed out on actual pedigree by not sacking Ole.
Don't even get me started on this mate! A proven winner was available and by all accounts wanted to join us. But no, we decided he wasn't for us, I mean why would we not want a manager at this club who has a track record of winning league titles? Gary Neville "Manchester United would never hire Antonio Conte".

Why? Who has stopped him from walking? It's his own doing that he is hanging back waiting for the worst.

Overall, he is a successful footballer and set financially for the rest of his life. No cause for pity.

Ole has been following EPL football since he was a boy. He joined United at age 23, he spent 11 years here and he even coached the youth team. I think that we can all agree that he knows what the club, the players and the fans want inside out, possibly more then the average fan himself. That means attacking football, giving kids a fair shot and having a core of local players at first team. Hence why Ole is constantly spot on in interviews and was able to keep the dressing room at his side till probably a month ago (some say he still has control over it but that's out of the scope of debate). Its so easy to give assurances to the likes of Bailly, Lingard and VDB that they will get first team chances.

Unfortunately there's a gulf between what fans/players want and what Ole can provide. The more bodies you commit upfront the more space you leave at the back. Not only that, some teams rely on physicality, others rely on pace, some play tika taka while others play counter attack football. That requires hundreds of 'what if this or what if that happen' scenarios that only top coaching and tactics can counter. Add the squad players in the mix then tactics and coaching will need to be tweaked to accommodate these players strengths/weaknesses. If kids are to play as well then someone has to monitor them as they will be targeted and their inexperience can prove costly. That requires more tactics tweaking, more coaching, more headaches.

Thus the temptation to play a simple football built around 5-6 players in defense, quick counters and individual brilliance is high. A small pool of players would keep things pretty straight forward and since we've got a huge squad, if injury strike there's always an experienced international to replace like for like. Unfortunately there are 3 problems with that.

A- It will not win you a lot of trophies. That's because so many teams are just happy to defend against us and get a draw/go to penalties
B- Other clubs tend to have top managers and coaches whose very job is to spot weaknesses and drill the team to a level that they can exploit them. Sooner or later a one trick pony manager will be fount out especially in a league which has the best managers in football (Pep, Klopp, Tuchel and Conte) under 1 roof with league title winners managing the likes of Watford and Everton.
C- Eventually players sitting on the bench will lose it

That lead to Ole trying to tweak his proven but dated tactic to disastrous effects.

I don't think that Ole is an evil person who walks in the office thinking of how he's going to make Ole inners look silly, how he will dent his legacy with us and which football career's he's going to ruin. He's doing that because he and his coaching staff is simply not good enough. However there's no denying that what he says and what he does are completely opposite to one another. This lead to a polarization between those fans who believe him and those who see through his lies and see him as a hypocrite.

 so now they are impressed?
I mean it would be somewhat believable if we were training for the entire international brake, instead of going off on holiday for a week.
Are we supposed to believe that he's impressed with two days training despite being here for over a year without being given any run of games.

We are what we do. Not what we say we are, not what we wish to be, but what we do. There is no separate "Ole the man" who can get credit for talk only. By all means, talk the talk but only when you walk the walk. When talk is not backed by actions, it is worse than what Jose did - he did not act "the United way", yes, but at least he was honest in that and did not pretend he did.
