Surreal.

Rooney got nowhere near this level of respect when leaving, and was a bigger legend who'd caused less harm. Other examples too.

Not a psychologist so not going to blabber about the mindset of our fans/club, but I find it surreal.

How did your brain determine this to be the rabbit hole you’d enter? I’m fascinated.

Well I'd hope the standard of class in football is not Chelsea. As a mark of respect for the Man Utd icon Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, I'm glad he got the chance to say a proper goodbye to the proper fans of the club.
Oh look..the proper fans nonsense.

This interivew just proves that the club can't move past sentimentality ..that's all. That's why they kept him in the job for so long despite being awful at it.

He's a legend of a player but he's just sacked from his job.. sacked ! ..so cringey to interview him after sacking him.

I have never seen a club do such thing with their sacked manager.

Not a lot of class on this forum these days, sadly.

Gave it his all, was not good enough and not helped by the board keeping him on far longer than they should have. Had he gone after 18 months his stay would’ve been seen a lot more positively.

Club legend, all the best to him.
The forum has long gone to the dogs mate

Because it's weird and ridiculous. Not big deal..just ridiculous.
Its obviously a big deal to you, hence you’re crying about it on the internet?

I can’t see too big a difference between the video and a written statement saying exactly the same things.

I had also never seen such a toxic base of Utd fans as I have recently on here, so you know, everyone is seeing new stuff nowadays.

You can go through this thread and hand pick the posters that are too young to remember this man playing for us by their comments alone. This was the right thing to do and the right way to do it. A great person.

He definitely looks like a man put out of his misery. You can see the disappointment that it hasn't worked out but I don't think he has any real complaints and knew he'd ran out of ideas.

Give Ole some love! He is one of us (though rich) - he really, really loves the club. Of course he should get another type of send off than your general manager.

With that said; nice that the nosthalgia is now over. Let’s keep the values he protected, i.e. not becoming Chelsea or Woodwards Di Maria-United and try to build with a proper football manager. Not Conte, not Mourinho, not Zidane - but the one’s proposed - Pochettino, Ten Haag or (will not happen) Potter.

Ole asked to do the interview because the club is more than just an employer to him, and he's more than an employee to the club and its fans.

If anything's cringey, it's posters like you having a grand old whinge about it.

Never mind how he performed, he will always be a legend in my eyes for how he handles himself both on and off the pitch.

We have the right to say our opinions on the matter. If you don't like us not thinking this stuff is weird, help yourself to the ignore button.

People on internet having different views shocker.

No one said he's not a club legend or an playing icon. This interview just shows everything wrong about the club during his 3 years.

I sometimes wonder, given how so many on here wish we were like these other clubs with no individual identity of our own, why don't they do everyone a favour and start following these other clubs they so admire?

Crazy how people find it weird a club giving an outgoing manager respect.

This isn't even top red stuff, some things go beyond results and trophies and stats.

What makes United a great club is that history has show it's great in all aspects of club life, not just the results on the pitch. It's what separates the Uniteds and dare I say it, Liverpool's from the Chelsea's and city's. I think some of you "fans" would do well to remember that.

Awful, kicking a man while he's down. For poor Ole agreeing to that shows you he was so agreeble. Any other manager, actually any other job in the world and you would tell the employer to do one. Love is one thing but pride is another, what was achieved in that. We will never see anything like that again in football so quick, all for the wrong reasons. Propaganda by them cnuts, sad for a man who clearly loves the club but way out of his depth.

It was supposedly Ole’s idea? So you know….

I really don't see the problem. It's just a man that has a long relationship with this club saying some parting words. You cannot suddenly separate the man from his history, it is always there and always will be.

Why does it have to be indicative of some grand point on sentimentality or how unfit we are for modern football. He's already been sacked, the decision has been taken whether he has an interview or not so what is the big harm in it or why should it be worthy of criticism?

:( Painful viewing. Why is he doing an interview so soon after being sacked? The poor guy needs to go be with his family and get away from the spotlight for a while.

I agree that there are massive problems at the club. Everyone knows this but you are wrong here mate. It was his own wish. You think they should have rejected him this?

I think he’ll be out of the spotlight permanently. I don’t see the issue saying a few words to the fans afterwards. He’s probably seen the writing on the wall for a while himself.

This is the kind of mawkish thing that everybody would mock Liverpool for. Sure, he's a club legend and maybe a year down the line you interview him on MUTV and pick through the bones a bit, but this is just bizarre.

The one silver lining in the abomination of a thread is the glory-hunting, internet-only, Chelsea-like fans are outing themselves.

Some of the comments already. What the feck. Stay classy Caf :houllier:

Personally think it's a nice touch from the club.

He even mentions that he plans to do zero interviews or talking to the press after. So he wanted to do this now, and go straight back to being a fan from afar.

Legend forever and always.
What he said. So sad Ole wasn't our worldbeater. Happy it's over. I was actually worried they would let him stay and boil until after the Chelsea game.

The vitriol towards Ole and this video in particular has exposed how unconnected a lot of people on this forum are to the club. A lot of plasticity.

Ole is a legend, who clearly loves the club deeply, and people jumping for joy and trying to get in their "I told you so" comments over what is a sad situation, or those claiming he doesn't care about he club, especially after watching the video, simply don't have a particularly strong connection to the club.
Very true.

All the best Ole. Thanks for giving us moments like that night in Paris.
The punditry on this should serve as a reminder of the state the club was in when he took the job.

We all wish Ole all the best for the future, why wouldn't we but why exactly should I feel sad about his sacking? I wouldn't go as far as to mock him but at the end of the day he wasn't good enough and we need to move on. His interview does show he is a class person but give me a choice between a class person who loves the club and a winner I'm going for the latter everytime unless they coincide which is very doubtful considering how well/bad SAFs ex players have done in managerial roles.
You can be sad that it wasn't a success.

I have sympathy for the view that sentimentality is clouding effective leadership of the club. But simply, this is not the thread to do it and therefore take a dump on the special connection with a loved player who quite obviously loves the club to death. Interestingly, quite likely only to me, is that this is what kingdoms of England were like under weak rulers. Divided and defined by petty squabbles and infighting. Vent at the board by all means in one of the million and one threads for it. I dislike sanctimony, but really ffs.
