Well Shaw is injured anyway but fully expect Maguire to start as he's suspended against Chelsea, will admit Bruno's has looked all over the place in recent weeks

Ooooooh wonder what Carrick will do. Hope he goes 433 but think it’ll probably be similar to Ole. A man can dream though so here we go.

    DDG
    Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Telles
    McT
    Bruno——-Donny
    Rashford—Ronaldo—Sancho
Not really a great fan of McT but I don’t think Dm is a position for Fred he’s better as a hound hunting people down. Matic not sure he can do games back to back and I’d imagine he starts vs Chelsea.
We've already lost the league so no point saving Matic for Chelsea. We need to pull off a win here to secure our place in the next round. I'd play Matic as he's the only DM we have and he does a good job in that position. I'd go with Fred along side him.
Give Bruno, Sancho and Donny a platform to operate behind Ronaldo.

    ----------- MATIC --- FRED ------------
    - SANCHO - BRUNO - VD.BEEK -
    ---------------- RONALDO ---------------

A tough match away to a well coached team with a lot of pressure. Perfect.

Being different some options other than the usual McFred formation are 523 / 4213 / 442

(Counter attack and helps Bailly get ready for Chelsea)

    ---------------------- DDG
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Bailly Telles
    ------------------ VdB Fred
    -------- Sancho Ronaldo Lingard

    (Same old but + VDB)

    ---------------------- DDG
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Telles
    ------------------ VdB Fred
    -------------------- Bruno
    ------Sancho Ronaldo Rashford

(Diamond and maybe we try to keep possession)

    ---------------------- DDG
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Telles
    --------------------- Fred
    ----------- Mct --------------- VDB
    -------------------- Bruno
    ------ ---Ronaldo Rashford

Will be very interesting what Carrick does and may provide a very small bit of insight into how he has been working behind the scenes.

I think he'll make changes just to showcase his own credentials. If he makes adjustments and we play okay he gets the praise, we play the same team no one will care.
I actually think the opposite. I don’t think Carrick wants to become a manager. Seems like someone who is happy in a coaching or assistant manager role. As such I don’t think he’s going to try to surprise anyone with his tactics, I think it’s more likely that he doesn’t do anything to undermine Solskjaer like suddenly starting Donny and revealing it was a personal issue between the two of them and not because Donny doesn’t deserve a start.

I think he will start VDB, and will drop matic. Not a chance for me that he drops any of Maguire, Fernandes, Ronaldo.

Whatever the result, expecting VdB to be our MotM.
Really excited to see him playing on a regular basis.

The scenes if he isn't selected

why ?There is no new manager, Carrick will not be doing anything that Ole would not have done.
No this is just a game in a none manager limbo state.
I have to be honest , expecting to lose, not something I normally post, but until we get a permanent manager, nothing has changed.
Yeah, I agree. To be honest with you, it would have been more of a change if we kept Ole and sacked these lot. These lot have no experience at all in management and they're going to a crucial game tonight.

Biggest game of our season here. Win this and secure progression to the next stage and the new manager has something to go at for the rest of the season. Hopefully Mr Champions League does his thing today.

I don't think we will see massive changes, probably just some small tweaks. He has probably had at most one training session if any at all because of having a rest day after Saturday and a travel day to contend with.

There not gonna be some dramatic change in tactics but he may tweak the shape and personell.

    De gea
    A.W.B Lindelof Maguire Telles
    V.D.B Fred/Mctom
    Sancho Bruno martial
    Ronaldo
I would like to think that if he tweaks anything he changes the midfield shape and drags bruno back into a more disciplined midfield role and tells him to stop attempting Hollywood balls everytime he's on the ball, pushes V.DB forward into a slightly freeer similar role to what he is asking of Bruno and then just plays a single pivot of either Fred or mctom, matic could play there aswell but don't think he's got the legs for two games in 4 days.

I personally would play henderson and bailly aswell as it gives us the ability to play a
a high line to compress the space in midfield and allow to form some sort of a high press, but I don't think he Will be that radical.

I think we may end losing this though just hopefully its not by more than one goal as that still gives us a fighting chance then.

Really hope DVB gets a start here.

It's thoroughly deserved after his 2nd half performance and would show players are rewarded for good performances, not just being a coaches favourite.

I suspect though it'll be the 'safe' Mcfred. Mctominay should be nowhere near a starting line up with his performances lately.

I’m in Norway and have been watching games on Norwegian TV, but now I’ve downloaded some mad stuff on my TV which has given me access to all channels in the universe.

So my question is: which UK channel is the game on? And how can I look that up in the future?

    It's on BT Sport 3.

To be honest I just google 'United Villareal (or whoever we're playing) tv channel' in the days before the match and you'll get a number of articles telling you, such as the one below.

Completley agree, would love to see him paired with either Fred or Matic, I've been an admirer of Scott's but he has been well of the pace this season and Van De Beek's passing was something to behold at weekend compared to what we are used to.

I'd drop Bruno, Maguire, Shaw, Scott and Rashford for this one, bring in some new legs and have the team focused on creating for Ronaldo as much as possible. This would be my thinking if I was in Carrick's position, possible Fred in for Matic as he played at weekend.

Villarreal are a mess as well. Draw specialists, they just can’t win
Any sort of managerial bounce gets us a draw

Matic should be nowhere near after his showing at Watford either. He's too slow these days to start a match. Not bad as an impact sub.

I think Fred/DVB/Fernandes has a nice blend. Fred and DVB like to move the ball at a fast tempo and pass forward regularly which will suit Fernandes.

True, but other than Donny and maybe Sancho I think the whole team let themselves down at weekend, Matic has always been an admirable performer in my opinion, but I agree I think Fred could be a better fit and I think they would suit each other perfect aswell as keeping the engine in midfield.

I agree they will help Bruno tremendously as he is at his best when the ball is played in quickly to him whilst also having the creativity from deep with Donny.

The whole Donny situation has been a huge mess in all fairness and the respect he shown in trying to get Ole away from the fans criticism at weekend only speaks volumes of his character, but confuses me about the situation even more! :houllier:

I really hope there is nothing more to it. Ole doesn't seem the type to hold grudges, but at the same time he has been strangely under used a huge amount.

I can only fathom he just loved the Mcfred combo, it worked well for him last year and his style of midfielder is a lot more physicality based. Win the ball, cover a lot of ground and pass it on.

I think maybe they had him pidgeon holed as a number 10 and only slowly realised later that he can be more effective in a deeper position. I just hope Carrick perhaps has more respect for ball retention considering that was his exact style of play in midfield. I think DVB could play a Carrick DLP role really well.

Both Bruno and Maguire appear to be suffering from mental fatigue coupled with physical problems.
That is having a direct impact on their decision making, which at the moment is terrible.
And the rest of the team are not far behind either.
The only antidote is a run of good form. And the next 2 games are pretty challenging.

Hope Donny is given a game. I'd take a 0-0 right now to all but guarantee qualification for the next round and stem the flow of goals we've been letting in for fun.

Pretty sure the back four and keeper will be the same from the Watford game bar Telles for Shaw, unless we play three at the back. Carrick might do this just to hopefully make us a bit more solid:

    de Gea
    Lindelof Maguire Bailly
Wan-Bissaka van de Beek Matic Telles
    Bruno
    Ronaldo Rashford

I get the same feeling regarding their relationship, I think even rival fans know how much Ole loved the McFred combo, which until this season, he had every right to believe this was his best partnership, partner that with Donny looking more physically capable already this season and I think your right.

I agree again, I think Carrick will be more adventurous with the midfield options, given how Tempo was his speciality.

I like this. I'd switch Bruno and VDB though. VDB is slow whilst Bruno can beat a man. Bruno takes more risk and VDB tends to play safer, so there's less risk associated withBruno losing the ball. All you'd have to tell Bruno is to track his man. He seems lost off the ball right now. Telles for the overlaps and AWB Bailly Lindelof picks itself.

This looks good to me except Rashford- Rashford is too left sided to play with Ronaldo who is also left sided. It can leave us empty on the right.

I'd partner Ronaldo up with Cavani, Greenwood or possibly even Martial due to his hold up play and passing.

As long as Fred and McTominay are not on at the same time. Way too spastic with the ball and make the whole team look jittery.

I just want a continuation of that second half against Watford (minus the defensive gaffes of course). Start VDB and Sancho, and go for it. I don't want to see any of that back 5 or McFred pivot nonsense, save that for Chelsea if need be, not against a team that's struggling more than we are in their domestic league.
