Carrick and co won't take any risks, they'll go mostly with the standard Ole 11 bar the inclusion of VdB surely, hopefully we'll nick a point.

I can't even tell what Carrick will do, things are in such disarray, but I know we have zero chances with Villareal. We dragged our feet so much that we ruined our Champions League chances and possibly even a chance to make top 4.

    Are you being serious?

After Liverpool 5-0 and City 2-0 any sane club would have interim replacement lined up, terms agreed and ready to go short of signing. Spurs got Conte, permanent manager, immediately after 3-0 defeat with us, single horrible game, we had series of horrible games and didn't have even interim lined-up?

How can you possibly excuse this crap?
Christ, you sound like a spoiled child. Even if we knew exactly who we wanted we would struggle to get them in, contract signed and on the plane out again to Villarreal within 24hrs. A foreign manager wouldn't have a work visa ready in that time and if they're in another job they need to negotiate their exit.

As I say, if this lingers on, by all means moan. But complaining about an interim arrangement at this short notice is a joke.

Would be hilarious if it’s a 4231 with McFred holding

If you think the last few defeats have been embarrassing, imagine how it would have been without De Gea.

    I mean, fecking hell :houllier:
Saved penalties aside DDG has been poor this season, making errors, poor distribution, and his usual habit of being glued to his line.

The most important game to save our season. We must qualify for next round if we want to have some meaningful season for new manager.

If he is fit we must get Cavani playing so that we press and fight from the front……if he picks a defensive shaped team we are stuffed as this team is not strong enough defensively to hold out for a match against the wall - and it will be backs against the wall - they will be smelling blood

just hope Carrick uses his subs way better than Ole did

I really hope there is some pride in our players and they feel guilty for hanging Ole out to dry at Watford…

If we lose this and Atalanta win their game, we would have to beat YB to qualify on the last game I presume? Unless Atalanta beat Villarreal and then it would go on head to head records and goal difference between Villareal and us.

He's also single-handedly saved our sorry asses a few times.

Mixed bag at the very least.

A couple of times perhaps, but he's been poor more than he's been good.

At his best, he still had poor distribution and refused to leave his line, forcing us to defend deep and cede territory, but he made up for it with regular superhuman saves. Without those, he becomes a bit of a liability very quickly.

Agree on the bolded. Opponents have had an easy battle in midfield against us ALL season long.

Lets get some controlled possession first and foremost, build from that.

Ooooooh wonder what Carrick will do. Hope he goes 433 but think it’ll probably be similar to Ole. A man can dream though so here we go.

    DDG
    Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Telles
    McT
    Bruno——-Donny
    Rashford—Ronaldo—Sancho
Not really a great fan of McT but I don’t think Dm is a position for Fred he’s better as a hound hunting people down. Matic not sure he can do games back to back and I’d imagine he starts vs Chelsea.

You have to laugh. Half the posts in here still have Maguire in the line up. How can he be anywhere near the team in such an important game. There's not a defender in our clubs history that's played this badly, this consistently. What is this spell he has over people?

Anyway, in regards to the game, it'll be interesting to see who Carrick starts. Donny has to play. I'd like to see a midfield of Donny, Fred and Matic. Maybe with Bruno as a false 9 (which is essentially players anyway) with Ronaldo and Greenwood or Sancho as wide forwards/strikers. The defence is anyone's call, but I just don't want to see Maguire, he's painful to watch.

It’s a very tricky one to guess on Tuesday.

I thought I would have dropped quite a bit after last game but very close

There is nothing in this line up that suggests we could control anything haha
Maybe the worst 11 you could pick

He plays and moves like he is Beckenbauer and he's fooled a lot of people by doing that throughout his career. He's also English, so the standards for him are way lower. Bailly has never ever been this bad for such a prolonged period of time yet half the caf wont consider playing him and wants to sell him. There's not much between Maguire, Lindelof and Bailly so I would pick the latter two off of form.

Hard to believe it's not Scholes, it's Carrick, oh nooo....

He better motivate them enough to go on and get a result here.

This needs to be a statement match. A message to United fans that things are changing in a major way.

    De Gea

    AWB
    Bailly
    Lindelof
    Telles

    VDB
    Bruno
    Fred

    Sancho
    Lingard
    Ronaldo (C)

VDB needs to start from here on out. We need to convince him to stick around and be an integral part of the midfield moving forward.

Not expecting a win but I hope Maguire and McTominay are dropped and Shaw needs a rest.

why not try bruno in the LW spot we tried to build for pogba? Allows vdb to come in the middle to help out the midfield. Bruno that lw/lm attacking spot, vdb links in the middle, then sancho wide right feeding ronaldo up top

Start Matic, Donny and Fred. Bench Bruno. Rashford, Ronaldo and Sancho as front 3.

We need passing options from the midfield. They are well coached to keep and pass.

If we had a competent coaching staff, I would say that the priority is to stop their 4 players Capoue, Barejo, Albiol, Torres from playing deep and having their time to play like they wanted.

They just destroyed us in the first game, and we had no players in their zone, so a 4-1-4-1 would surely be efficient, but we don't have the players and confidence to do so.

Playing a 5-4-1 as we did recently ? Hope not.

So probably a 4-2-3-1 and no many changes from the Watford game.

I think he'll go something like this and get couple more runners in:

    De Gea
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    Fred Donny
    Sancho Bruno Jesse
    CR7

Give Captain to someone mainly injured (And injured right now I think...)
Cavani, Ronaldo & Mata as 3 of the 4 up top with no speed?
You want to drop for horrible form but include Shaw? Can't agree with most of this, don't think we have the players for a 4-2-3-1 as we don't have good 6's

    DDG
    Dalot Bailly Lindelof Telles
    VDB Matic Fred
    Sancho Ronaldo Lingard

That seems sensible, bolster that defense with 3 in midfield, drop the underperforming players at least to push meritocracy and give Lingard his start after his recent form, I was one of his biggest detractors but he has been good when played and we need to play Sancho, we paid too much for him and need to give him a consistent run and some trust.
