Shaw was great all of last winter but I guess this is just before we almost hired Poch last year.
He missed last few weeks after the restart, I think he played only 6-7 games and then missed all games because of injury. Also it was during the time we were linked with Telles If I'm not wrong.

He is probably the worst journalist around. 9/10 he is wrong and then comes up with some convenient excuse as to why it never happened like he said it would.

As for RR, if everything gets signed it’ll be interesting to see how much freedom he will be given to fix your club.
Ya big doubts about that are there and also how he fits Ronaldo in. But since he has accepted the role knowing all that fully well, hopefully he has solutions to these challenges.

Which leads me to my next question, why didn't the big German clubs go for him?
Schalke was a big German Club at the time, so they did. After his burnout there he did not take over any long term coaching positions.

Rangnick's ideas and Pochettino don't quite fit though. I wonder if we're dead set on Poch.
In what way? Tactically I'd say they're very similar, especially in terms of their pressing. Much more so than Ten Haag, who prefers a more possession-based approach

I hope it doesn't turn out to be Van Gaal Mark II.
1 massive differences between them. Van Gaal and Rangnick both would try to rebuild in their philosophy, and both are very good coaches and know how to get the players to do what they want to do. The problem was Van Gaals vision was a slow and safe possession style of dominating play, controlling the game in that fashion. Rangnicks philosophy is crazy pressing leading to direct attacking. United fans would never have accepted Van Gaals style, whereas I think we all want some of that gegenpressing style.

I think more than 50% of caf would say ten Hag as preference for next manager. I hope we will go for him. I like Poch also but given the choice it would be ten Hag.

Who do you think is better suited for Manutd?
I like Poch as well but I’d say ten Hag too. I know less about him as I’ve only really seen him in Europe bar a couple times, but I like the football a lot and how he sets up his side. I get more excited about managers coming to the PL than I do about players, so it’d be a lot of fun to see an exciting manager who’s not managed here before.

A lot of my friends support United and as you said about the forum I also think the majority of them would like the Dutchman. Exciting times for United supporters.

yes, you do realise Murtough was heavily involved in this decision? You do realise Murtough was sounding out Rangnick and trying to learn about the Red Bull set up since at least 2019? Why wouldn't he keep his job after this? Why would we sack him now after this?

The idea that Shaw is "done" because of the Rangnick appointment is laughable. Same applies to most of our players too.

High intensity pressing isn't something that's instinctual to players. They're taught how to do it. It's called coaching.
Tbh, they will still have a shock when they have been used to a level of coaching the last 3 years that doesn’t go beyond ‘quick attacking football and score lots of goals, the United way’.

He won't have to run himself into the ground for 90 mins making 30-40 yard sprints. Rangnick is experienced enough to allow for Ronaldo's age and supplement the attack with legs to allow for this as well, I'm sure.
Who knows how that will play out. The undroppable Disneyland signing versus the new way - it will be fascinating to see if they can coexist.

It’s exhausting but he’s probably one of the fittest athletes in the world. Is he any less fit or explosive than Cavani? I don’t think so.
He will still be a net negative defensively. Even if he is willing to press at all which I massively doubt.

This week wasn’t the first time Ralf Rangnick had been interviewed for a job at Manchester United.

Or that’s how it felt to him, at least.

In the autumn of 2019, United’s technical director John Murtough travelled to Leipzig to study the Red Bull football group’s facilities and corporate strategy. A proud Rangnick, eager to show off a Champions League club he had essentially built himself, hosted Murtough for eight hours, at the end of which the German sensed that the real reason for the visit might have been him. His suspicion that he had been sounded out was strengthened when he got word that an unnamed club was conducting background research into his working methods, tapping into his mentor Helmut Gross, a trained structural engineer turned tactical maverick, and Lars Kornetka, a long-time Rangnick collaborator, for insight into his footballing beliefs and his character.

Both offered glowing reviews, painting Rangnick as a hyper-energetic football perfectionist obsessed by the smallest detail. In the end, though, the anticipated call from Old Trafford didn’t come. Rangnick never learned if United had commissioned the dossier.

This time, there was no doubt about United’s intentions. Rangnick is about to take over as interim manager following the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Cristiano Ronaldo and co are about to get some very hands-on coaching.
I think that we are looking at the Rangnick appointment as a solution to our current problems of an underperforming squad with no overarching philosophy or style of play.

Actually, I believe it has the potential to be bigger. He was essentially the architect of the RB footballing empire, which includes RB Leipzig, RB Salzburg, New York Red Bulls, etc. Those teams are experts in scouting, with an emphasis on youth and speed/pace. You look at the conveyor belt of talent that RB Leipzig possesses, and how easily the transfers happen…. Would it be possible to have a similar impact on our systems? Style of play and scouting ethos permeates all of the sister clubs with Leipzig the pinnacle.

Perhaps that’s the consultant role? Both Chelsea and City are know for acquiring young players as assets and loaning them out — they seriously have 70-90 players on their books. But the genius of utilizing other clubs and lower leagues to train / initiate / coach in the same footballing philosophy is a master stroke. It’s a bit like the minor leagues in baseball in the US — but obviously a much larger and prominent platform across many countries.

That would be a an ambitious project, indeed.

Surely Ralf will have an input on who should succeed him. Ten Hag coached in Germany...
Ten Hag is a bit part of the opposing school in Germany though, following the van Gaal/Guardiola way, not the Rangnick/Klopp style.

If those people took their time out to listen to Ragnik, he actually mentions it.

He actually went onto say, he signed Firminho for Hoffenheim, he wasn't a natural presser, same with Mane and Salah, its the caoching from Klopp that has helped them reach those levels.

For the first time in what feels like many years I’m actually excited about the future of our club. Of course it could all come crashing down as it has on numerous occasions in recent history but if leads to Ten Hag in the summer then this is absolutely brilliant news.

Also I think Rangnick knows because of that that he can't do the head coach role for a long time, he is a control freak and risks to overwork himself.

That's why he only took over interim in the last years I think, while preferring the DoF style role in clubs
That's what I have always thought, I remember that there were talks about him working non-stop at Schalke even before the burnout. I actually don't know if it was widely known, it's something that one of RMCs Buli reporters used to mention. It's maybe easier for him to manage his work from the office.

Surely a gegenpress team is made up young and uber fit players. Where will Ronaldo fit in all this?

He definitely runs and presses a whole lot less than Cavani

What happens when we win the Treble?
Everything I've heard suggests that he prefers the administrative side more than the coaching side.

I'd guess he only accepted becoming manager as a back route to becoming the DoF.

He'll move aside without a fuss, even after we win the treble. It'll be one of those baller 'retired as champion' moves.

If this happens, or in fact whoever we get in, I reckon he'll do pretty well until the end of the season. Maybe squeak 4th, and get us to a cup final. Then whatever happens next season, whether he stays or is replaced, I reckon it will all go wrong again.

I am not convinced by him, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Does this mean we're going for Ten Hag in the summer then?

Good appointment that will seamlessly help integrate Pochettino philosophy here at United. Ralf was known as the inventor of the gegenpress, while Pochettino was known to modernize the pressing game in the premier league before any other manager. It seems our board is on the right track

I realise that and I didn't read his name in the list of op. Happy?

This could have gone much much worse. Thank God common sense prevailed.
I was dreading a "United man" taking over. Or them just staying with Carrick.

Look, I'm aboard the RR-train, but why is he suddenly the second coming? Why didn't people here worship him before the appointment?
Because we had 3 years of "good feels fc" to actually having a manager who has a clear coaching direction.

Yeah, would love to see what ten Hag can bring to the club. His Ajax side looks so good against any opponents. That's something you have to admire, having balls to go toe to toe against strong teams.

He doesn't seem to be the most easy going guy, similar to what was/is(?) said about Tuchel.
After his Schalke spell as a coach he preferred to not only work as a coach, but also or solely as a DoF that requested a loooot of power. Thats how he built Hoffenheim and Leipzig.

But that's probably also why Bayern or Dortmund never really approached him.

It would be the same if you would criticize Tuchel before PSG for not winning anything with Mainz or Dortmund (besides one national cup, but Rangnick also won one with Schalke) against Bayern.

As he wouldn't usually step into this sort of role perhaps? From what I've read the only reason he's agreed a deal is because we've given him the reigns over footballing decisions upstairs when our long term manager inevitably comes in. He could of course succeed as our manager which is the hope.
