Sad to see Carrick go, always liked him as a player and been impressed with how he stepped up at a difficult time for the club and given us a chance to salvage the season by stopping the rot. I guess he feels that he has to go given the way things have gone with the regimes he has been part of and didn't want to be 'imposed' on the next manager.
I would love it if he takes on a job in the lower leagues and work his way up. He seems to have something about him as a manager and it will be exciting to see how he does.

How many trophies had we won since he became a first team coach?
Why should we pay him to learn? Why should the team suffer having a Learning on the job coach when we could have hired a proper "already good" coach to start from day 1? Rangnick would have his hand full he needs a coach he can delegate and trust, not another coach for him to coach.
The same reason why we can't allow Ole to learn his trait at the expense of the club. We might make an exception during good times, for example if during SAF last 5 years he took in one ex United players as understudy, something we can afford. But now? When we're already on crisis? Having a coach learning on the go?
Jose was one of the finest managers the EPL had ever seen while Ole gave the likes of Carrick complete control over coaching. Carricky could rely on Phelan as well who was Sir Alex no 2. Was it perfect? Of course not. We are Manchester United. The club's aim is to win trophies and not to teach Carricky the basics of coaching.

You wouldn't want shite like Keane and Carragher shouting over each other, or someone like Souness banging on about the whole Rangnick appointment being a mistake as Carrick was our man, etc. Even as far as the fans are concerned, it has spared us precious hours of mindless arguments.

Well he's undefeated and got 4 points away to Chelsea and vs Arsenal
Woke up to this news, and it's a-bit surprising. I thought he would be here until at least the end of the season. Loved him as a player and probably rated him higher than many others did. I honestly have no idea what he's like as a coach, but all the best for the future.
Make sure he leaves behind the Sancho user-guide.
Think we could well get a better idea on that when he does his presser this morning

Woke up this morning, had a shower and sat down with a coffee to read footy news and remembered that MC has left. Absolutely the right decision and I really wish him well, fingers crossed he forged a successful career in management, but probably the saddest I’ve felt about some United news for a long time. Genuinely class individual and in his own quiet way has been a strong and calming ever present presence at the club.
Regarding Phelan, bear in mind that when he's SAF 2nd our back staff is filled with functioning people like Rene, and the old coaches. SAF might had everything working to a tee and just need Phelan to help him supervise and probably become a good cop to his bad cop or vice versa. Just like Mourinho long standing No. 2 is a fitness coach.
I think a good No.2 would complement what the No.1 is lacking, and if not they simply become the delegation of their No.1. They know what's expected, they know what the Head coach wanted, they know what to look out for and maybe they know their No.1 selection criteria.
So I don't think all No.2 is comparable between clubs.

Right decision, respect to him. McKenna and especially Phelan should do the same.
Deep down I feel sorry for Carrick. Mckenna and him were brought in to replace Faria which had very big boots to fill. Then Ole came in, he filled the coaching staff mostly with with inept people who tanked at Cardiff and he told McCarricky to handle all coaching on their own. When pressure got high he fecked off for a holiday and let them on their own.

Agree with this 100%. Was biting my teeth last two games seeing Darren fecking Fletcher working his way onto the coaching bench. Another one who needs to be put in his place and quickly by Ralf
Feels like more than just a new coach coming in. With the hope of proper reform in the club, ole and Carrick leaving, it really feels like we are at the start of a new chapter for the club. Holding thumbs it’s a good one.
Legend. He picked up the mess that Solskjaer left behind and left us in a much better place.
He's been here he came here as a player.
He's been the head coach for 3 games, in which the team has done more than decently.
He's left immediately, maybe because of the results over the past years, maybe because he doesn't want to coach, or wants to prove himself elsewhere. Whatever the reason, he's quit on a high, and made things easier for the club and new manager.
Posts like devilish's are scummy. But he's had a literal 20 year run posting similarly. Just as consistent in producing awful posts as Carrick was at finding great passes.
A lot of football fans are really a funny bunch of people.
A few weeks ago "fans" were furious and couldn't see the back of McKenna, Carrick and co fast enough. Now the same people are sad to see Carrick leave.
People should really learn to relax, and know that all teams / managers / players will go through good and bad times. No need to go overboard all the time.

Him and others at the club were promoted to roles they didn’t have the experience for under Solskjaer and it’s only right a new manager would want to bring in some very experienced staff, which would marginalise Carrick’s role. No one likes being demoted but I feel he could have learned a lot under Rangnick.
After hearing his comments on what he believes is important regarding tactics, I feel it’s probably right for him to step down and have some time off. I’m sure he’ll do well.

To be fair, if we got less coaching value from him, we would have extracted more overall value from that transfer. Coaching sucked for the last three years, and him with McKenna were the two in charge of coaching. So in that aspect, it was a net nagative.
He was a very good player though. I think that he was the best midfielder in the league in SAF’s last season and near as important for that title as RVP was. As a coach thought, I am happy that he won’t be here and hope the same happens with McKenna.
