1. Bioshock
2. Mass Effect 2
3. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
4. Dragon Age: Origins
5. L.A. Noire
L.A Noire would be up there for me if they didn't feck around with the main character as much.

1: Skyrim
2: Red Dead Redemption
3: Far Cry 3
4: Assassins Creed II
5: Infamous

So many to choose from but think I probably played these the most and loved each of them. Skyrim I’m still playing today so if that doesn’t make the list I’ll cry.

Same. Skyrim for me is arguably the GOAT. So many hours past and present, still enjoy it.
Yep 100% agree. An incredible world too, just so many things to find and I still feel like I see new things even today.

It's just the familiarity and atmosphere the game brings. No other game has put you in the shoes of an explorer / adventurer / warrior so well. I've pumped well over 700 hours into it and still enjoy exploring and finding and collecting things even though I've more things than I know what to do with

This was a bit of a weird gen for me. They're were lots of good games without necessarily being many great ones. Anyway...

1. LIMBO
2. Deus Ex: Human Revolution
3. Bioshock
4. Catherine
5. Bayonetta

I was just thinking how strange it was that nobody has Deus Ex:HR in their list and then you did as I was writing mine.

Great game!

We should do a rule where you have to say how many games you actually played per gen and then anybody under 50 is automatically disqualified.
It’s hard this gen for me. Going to have a think and post later. I played Last of Us on PS4 so not sure I’ll include it on this list…..

Yet football is the most popular sport in the world and footy games are some of the biggest selling sports games in the world!
Doesn't mean it's good though. Even the worst call of duty games were outselling the competition who had far better games. I was somewhat joking but seeing PES or any sports games above some absolute masterpiece games. Mmm. But then again, not everyone has played every game.

Hard gen for me as I'd effectively defected to the PC realm by this point. I know titles like Elder Scrolls and Fallout came out on these consoles... but they are PC games(!) having said that, I'm sure some have the sole experience of playing them [painfully] on consoles with little to no hands on with the machines the game were intended for, so it's a tough one as we're then celebrating the game as a game, rather than feats made specifically for this generation of consoles. The lines get blurred like that for a lot of titles that will probably amass positions in the top 5, if not top 3.

Ironic that by this point, arcade titles were nearly all indistinguishable from their home to console, whilst there then became the gulf in what the console version of PC titles became.

Would be interesting to see what console specific IP's look like as a list at the end of this round.

This is the hardest era for me as it is when played the most games and it was an amazing time for games too.

1. Mass Effect
2. Bioshock
3. Skyrim
4. Fallout 3
5. Deus Ex - Human Revolution

Oblivion, Lost Odyssey and Arkham Asylum deserve a shout out because I absolutely loved these games too

That should be the aim IMO. I know Skyrim was a PC game but as a console owner, I've spent more time on that game on PS3, PS4 and PS5 than any other game. It has to be rated in there. It's a shame PC titles are getting overlooked really.

I can't mate. I started trying to platinum it while I was off work ill for 3 weeks late last year and I just got grinding it again. Ultimately I still just enjoy walking around there and the music, pathetic isn't it?

So are you saying PES wasn't good? I thought it was great and don't think I've played ANY sports game as good as PES. Especially football games.

I don't really buy into the idea that sports games can't be considered GOAT status.

Limbo is a great shout. Brilliant game.
I played LIMBO on Switch. Had I played it on PS, it would have been in my top 5 for sure.

I think the lines are totally washed like this though, no?

As an example:

Not having a go at this list (at all) but it's literally all PC ports, which says nothing about the generation in question, if you see where I'm coming from? Things like Uncharted 2, Last Of Us, Mario Galaxy and so forth are all generation specific, by contrast, which, I would think this is about as we're listing titles per gen.

I'm not having a moan, btw, just putting my thoughts out because I think titles intended purely for these consoles may miss out entirely if diluted with PC titles, in fact, I'm almost certain they will, which would be pretty weird when all is said and done, no?

I know what you're saying but if these games don't get listed here then where will they get tagged? Some of them are truly great videogames, aren't we trying to ascertain the greatest videogame here regardless of gen and platform? I understand there's some blurred lines going on but if Skyrim, Bioshock and Mass Effect 2 don't get some placement in the eventual list that would be a crime. Also, if these games are getting listed by console players on that gen it's still relevant ... I think.
