I have seen all of Barcelonas games this season to witness the downfall first hand. Frenkie dejong pretty much plays every game. Puig never plays, Pedri and fati have been injured since xavi joined. Gavi plays wing since almost all their attack is injured. Depay is injured too now for a month, luckily for then dembele is back.

Aguero - injured
Braithwaite - injured
Fati- Injured, barely played
Dembele- just back from injury
Depay- now injured for a month

Luuk de jong is the only one who has been fit but does not play.

No wonder they havent scored any goals.
Do you usually think that way about Pogba too when United usually have a boatload of injuries each season?

Usually much better players than Braithwaite too

I live in Holland therefore I see this lad play on the regular. The Dutch are fawning over this lad, they always do over their own, but I just can't see it.

I honestly think it'd be a huge mistake to go for him. He brings nothing new to the table, always playing it safe. The player he most reminds me of? Tom Cleverley.

Aguero has retired. Fati and Dembele are always injured. Their alternative are Dest as a winger (ha!), Ez Abde and Illias Akhomach from the U18s.

Ours are Greenwood and VDB. There's 5 classes of players between their backups and ours.

I'd rather we go for Rice. De Jong is on huge wages, still has 4 (not sure) more years on his contract.

Will Westham pull our pants down if we go in for Rice? Absolutely but so will Barcelona considering the situation that they are in, but then again maybe not..

I don't know maybe I'm just talking out of my arse, I just don't rate de Jong.

Frenkie is a Scottie Pippen, he'll never be a Jordan that is the best player on the team but he's been overrated and placed as a saviour when he's not that. He is a great footballer and in the right setup could add so so much, problem at Barca is, much much more was expected amd in addition the emergence of Gavi, Nico and Pedri has made Frenkie look a bit dispensable. The three amigos will be demanded for by the fans, its started already with many calling for De Jong to be dropped and the three amigos, Nico, Pedri and Gavi to play. I think eventually he'll be sold for extra funds and I hope we snag him, he and Fred would be a cheat code as the two deeper mids.
Who the hell needs a holding mid to be a Jordan? Very few in history have ever been that, can only remember Pirlo being the only one.

Listen "Benny Blanco". If I ever, if I EVER see you here again ...

Not sure we live in the same country, btw. De Jong gets ripped to shreds here by pundits like Gullit, Van Basten, Derksen. You sure the people fawning over him aren't just Ajax/Barca fans? (Which is ~40% of the population)

He’s on 400K a week?! How have Barca agreed to pay him that?
Was the most sought after player in the world at one point, with City, PSG, Juventus all interested if I recall. So he's gonna get the best deal and their wage structure is terrible. Wasnt Griezmann on like 600/800k?

Given Barcas appalling financial management over the years this shouldnt be a surprise.

The ironic thing is they probably could have given him way less and he still would have signed for them.

A lot of talk that De Jong is actually available for transfer and he's not as untouchable as most people believe....this is a guy that would absolutely transform our midfield

Safety passes and tight ball control... as long as he doesn't have to assert himself in tight spaces.
3 great games out of 30.
He is the epitome of an alibi footballer.

I'd call Derksen a lot things, however a pundit is not one of them.

And yes it's mostly the fans.

Wihout a shadow of a doubt.

Pretty glad that the turmoil Barca are in is effecting his reputation. Could allow him to leave for a lot cheaper than he's worth.

Said turmoil has caused him to become underrated. He's an amazing talent that would improve us immensely. The likes of Donny and De Ligt were overrated, but this guy is the real deal.

Biggest concern about him is that he'd likely want a pay rise to leave Barca, could push him north of £500k which is ludicrous.

If you think we tend to fawn over our own players, I doubt you picked up much of our language. We are the country that think Ruud was a slightly above average poacher and RVP an overrated showpony even though he is our all time top scorer. We are boringly critical of our own. We just wear dumb Orange shoes on our head while doing so.

Having said that, Frenkie de Jong is in shite form, but obviously a very talented player. Tom Cleverly my hairy arse.

It's not actually hairy. It's smooth, like a baby.

Yep, getting Sneijder vibes from people not rating him.

Pay rise. He should be pinching himself everyday someone was stupid enough to give him the amount he’s on now. Wherever he goes next he’ll be taking a pay cut and rightfully so.

Does he want to come here? If not then it’s a no, we’re not signing big names on silly contracts any more if they’re not arsed with the club. Which is absolutely a good thing. I know we’ve heard it before but I actually believe Rangnick

Obvious answer is no. But on this season’s form — Rice is pretty much best in the league levels whilst FDJ seems to be losing every midfield battle he’s this year.

Is it just a terrible set up bringing a player down, or is it a player showcasing he’s just not quite as good as the hype expected? I was/am a big Frenkie fan, but a lot of games have passed him by this season without nothing from him.

He might not be a huge Barca fan but he has a downward look on the premier league. I'm sure he sees himself as part of the solution at Barca and Spain/Barca is where his game type should be so unless they look to offload him I don't think he's ready leave and Barca could be back in a couple of years.

Maybe his attitude has changed or he might still be scoffing at the thought of the PL so I wouldn't be so quick to say get Frenkie like it would be easily done and he's keen on English football.
This article says its recent but the quotes are apparently from 2019.

I think he's one of those guys that gets incredibly pumped up on here because he's got a very pleasing set of skills that are in line with what people like to see. However, it doesn't mean he hasn't got significant weaknesses as well.

People will exaggerate somebody like Rice's weaknesses, but when it comes to a de Jong apparently how lightweight he is and the fact he isn't going to be great at pressing and defensively aren't important. Even though in modern football we know that competitive midfields are a huge part of an overall strategy. I think there's a certain tunnel vision for sets of attributes and it doesn't always follow the trends in football.

He would cost an absolute fortune overall, that's worth considering. By the time you've paid his fee and wages there would be little left. I don't think he would be any cheaper than Rice overall and we complain about his price (probably quite rightly)

I remember a game where he played against England and he ran the game to the point that we didn't even get to touch the ball much. Reminded me so much as a Xavi player that day with the added factor to be able to dribble past players.

From my understanding, he is being played more advanced. If we do get him we should play him as the deepest midfielder and let him dictate.

Absolutely brilliant player if played deep. Let him be our holding midfielder and we would be great again imo.

While I agree he is great ability wise, he's a bit of a fair weather player. When his team do well, he's amazing, but if his team is this Barca side he is as shit as the rest of them.

Just out of interest, can you name me 5 Netherlands players that you do rate highly?

No, he isn't; not currently, anyway. He's deadwood at Barcelona and not a leader on the pitch.

I see it differently.

For example, it's never about Manchester United, it's about Dutch player van de Beek and Manchester United.

As for Ruud van Nistelrooy, Fergie was in the wrong, not van Nistelrooy. How dare Sir Alex treat our boy like that (same with Stam).

Frenkie de Jong and Depay are brilliant players and are not culpable of Barcelona's struggles. It was Depay who carried Barcelona at the start of the season right? Now the goals have dried up, we have something to fall back on.

But..! Depay looked great when the Netherlands beat the top nations in glorified friendlies, better known as the Nations League.

This clear bias, patriotism, or nationalism if you like, is something that will never go away. No one gave a flying one about F1 about 10 years ago, now every man and his dog have jumped on the bandwagon because of Verstappen. Everyone's an authority now..

Gravenberch is one to look out for. He's an absolute unit.

De Jong was not in 400k/week when he signed and even less after his renewal in which his salary was adjusted to the pandemic situation.
