I fancy our chances against them though. Better than P$G where they have the front trio that could produce a moment of magic at any given time. Atletico are largely non-threatening even for our defense
Yeah that’s totally fair. At least with psg and untied we could have seen a proper football match. With Atletico…it’s just…I don’t even know what to call it

good luck!

PSG always seem to get hard draws. Not that anyone will have much sympathy for them.

A word of caution on Atletico. They are the dirtiest of cnuts you can ever imagine to meet. But they still have quality players like Felix, Suarez and Griezeman. Those three and Lemar caused us plenty of problems despite us beating them. Luckily they spent most of the time feigning injury which meant they attacked us less. Had they gone for the jugular we'd have been in trouble.
That's what always makes me sad. Griezman, Joao Felix, Suarez, Lemar, Carrasco, Correa, Cunha, Llorente, Koke,....imagine what kind of football Atletico could play with a less negative coach.

The two toughest draws we could have got for winning our group was probably PSG or Athletico Madrid. Just our luck with recent cup draws to draw them both! I felt if we’d got some luck of the draw we could have been quiet underdogs for this years CL. This is now an uphill task against a streetwise dirty side who know who know how to progress on this competition at whatever cost.

Just remembered Pepe tried calming things down in Atletico vs Porto. Says all you need to know.

I don't get United fans moaning about Chelsea getting easy draws. We had Atletico in the first knock out round last season.

A bit annoyed that the other English teams still end up with easy opposition the second time round too and we again end up with a tough draw despite winning our group.

Though its worth it for the absolute hilarity of Madrid going from drawing Benfica to now playing PSG

Its not just in the CL, but in cup competitions in general you seem to get immense luck with easy draws on the balance of things. In the FA cup we've drawn Villa and you've drawn a team that plays in something like the fifth tier of English football. Drawing arguably the easiest team in the CL twice after a redraw is something else too.

To those complaining that City and Chelsea have paid off UEFA to rig the draw:
What a pathetic loser mentality!

First of all, it's nonsense. United got the easiest group BY FAR out of the English clubs.
Secondly, where are the days we actually wanted to play a big name instead of effin' Salzburg/Lille/...? I'd rather seen PSG-United. Much more entertaining, maybe the last time Messi and Ronaldo can face off in the CL, etc

I'm all for a blockbuster draw but, not in the last 16. Would be nice for us not to have to face PSG or a team of similar quality before the quarters. Its also the annoyance that our domestic rivals seem to have a far more favourable path to the final. Namely City and Chelsea.

Villarreal-Juventus is an interesting one. Villarreal are a poor team, 13th currently in La Liga, got to CL after winning 11-10 on penalties against us and it was more to United being unable to beat them, as solid as they were. Juventus, though struggling this season, should be able to beat Villarreal over 2 legs. But who knows, they got knocked out against Porto last season and against Leipzig season before that..

Last year United faced Wolves, Tranmere Rovers, Derby County and Norwich

Chelsea faced Nottingham Forest, Hull City, Liverpool and Leicester City

And then Chelsea beat United in the semis.

edit: 2019-2020, I meant

I hate the moaning about who we're drawn against. It's the biggest competition in club football, we should want to play the best teams at every stage. Wanting "easy" fixtures is a losers mentality.

Sorry, messed up the years. The year before that then :)

Just illustrating that every single club's fans always feel like their opponents always gets easier draws.

It's an absolute fact Utd get tougher draws in the FA Cup than Chelsea.

Particularly in the early rounds.

Glad it got it got redrawn from an integrity standpoint, but not sure I'm happier with Ateltico than PSG. PSG certainly stronger on paper but play terribly. I feel we'll struggle against Atletico's style. At least with how we play today, that could change by then of course..

I remember us getting easy group draws in Champions League in the past and rival fans calling us lucky because of it, it was under Fergie and even after that, 2013/14, 2015/16, 2017/18, 2018/19 was ok draw as well, just that 2020/21 with PSG and Leipzig was tougher. This season, being in 2nd pot, we got Villarreal and Atalanta, not difficult either. In knockout stages it's more difficult but knockout stages are meant to be tougher anyways.

We've had some unlucky draws in all cup competitions in last few years under Ole, it's true, but also won Fa Cup under LvG without facing anyone better than Everton, won League Cup in 2017 only facing City in early stages, after that it was easy opponents and won Europa League in 2017 only facing Ajax in final as a decent team, though clearly not as good as Ajax of 2019 for example.

 No it isn't. Unless you're actually suggesting they bribe the FA.
Do you not understand words?

I didn't say it was fixed or any bribes were involved.

I just said we get much harder FA Cup draws than Chelsea especially in the early rounds. Which is true.

They’ve been shit in Europe for a long time now. His style doesn’t work in Europe anymore
It is more about style match ups. Utd love to counter attack and he is pretty good at voiding a counter. Atleti is better than PSG but stylistically have a more problematic style for Utd. Additionally, can see McFred getting suckered in by their antics.

I go the other way. Atletico like to sit back and not press high which plays into our hands and the 4-2-2-2 is meant to protect against counters anyway. Any sort of improvement should see us as favourites, especially when they can’t play for the away goal
