Need to cut out the rotten ones first.

The malaise in that squad will ruin anyone we buy.

thinking we buy our way to a better team is naive at best

I'd love the club to just pay off certain contracts and clear the decks, writing off any losses as a last "covid exceptional" expense and just get rid of those players not upto the task.

Taking the hit now and clearing the decks of the dross would send out the right message to players and agents. Come to United to work hard, express yourself and be adored by fervent fans, whatever your age.

I'd take us having to blood some younger players as interim measures over continuing to have mediocrity sitting around the club being rewarded for half arsed running around in training.
Yeah would love Ralf to be given the power to do that, however think it's very unlikely to happen

If we don’t get a decent DM then rite the season and probably top four off.

We could go on a run with some form but we look far off that at the minute and we have no midfield control against even the lowest level teams in the league.

The leeching of money out of the club by these parasitic owners has trickled down to a lot of our players who are set for life on these ridiculous contracts.

All our woes begin and end with the owners. They've cut major corners and pocket insane money for doing nothing apart from renewing contracts and annually cutting off a slice of the pie for managers to spend. Players just need to look around at almost useless, unmotivated teammates getting bumper new deals and the stadium falling apart around them. It doesn’t foster an environment where people take pride in what they are doing or have any fear of being cut out if they don’t perform for a year or two. You can tell by the way the team always falls apart at the slightest sign of trouble and how the owners don’t do anything about it until it’s too late. We are a club in a purgatory of boom and bust cycles.

Hopefully Ralf is here to actually do something meaningful about it and he’s not just here to provide more lip service.

To be fair to the owners in one respect, UTD have spent a hell of a lot of money on transfers since Fergie retired & also give our players huge wages. Sadly, City, Liverpool & Chelsea have mostly bought better players & coached them better.

Imagine having a rodri. Get the right CDM in and we probably see an effect similar to Bruno but with how effective we are at protecting our goal.

All I see are lazy rumours linking us with RB Leipzig players. Journalists are just googling RB Leipzig squad 2018-19 and looking at the CMs.

Yeah need some solid links from the usual Utd journos to the likes of Kessie/Kamara

They've linked us with Haidara and Adams both of which aren't even regular starters so there's probably some truth to what you've said.

Building on a poor foundation. Poor stadium. Squad always lacking in essentials. Giving contracts to no hopers. It’s not about spending money. They are actually saving money by renewing everyone and not writing off any players that want to stay
But it wouldn't make any difference at all if the likes of Mata and Jones and Heaton weren't in the squad, so they are actually wasting money, not saving it. They wouldn't even need to replace some of the useless squad members, superfluous as they are.

And they have usually moved players/coaches on quickly if things dont work (fail fast approach)

I’d love to get Bissouma off of Brighton. He probably ticks more boxes than anyone for a Rangnick #6.
Also despite it seeming most have forgotten Bissouma has a sexual assault case hanging over him and looks like he’s banged to rights so no one will be looking to sign him.

What’s that based on?

I think the new direction of the club will involve signing younger players again on much smaller contracts.

He's saying it's too early because we need players to leave first. No way in hell we'd sell i.e Martial, VDB, Mata, Lingard and Pogba and then not even strengthen with one midfielder..
Lingard and Pogba will run their contracts down and no club is going to buy Martial or pay even half of his wages on a loan deal so the ones that will probably go permanently or loan will be Mata, Deano or VDB and they don’t play anyway. We will also have Amad and Hannibal back after Africa which covers the loss of Mata and VDB.

I could get on board with that if it means finally addressing the CDM and CM strong on the ball long term issues

As has been said, with an interim manager I'll be surprised if we bring anyone in.

We don't often do much business in January anyway, and while a new manager should make it more likely that we'd bring players in, an interim manager actually makes it less likely.

If we do, it has to be either a CM or RB. But I can't see it happening, or us spending much on any addition if we do - not unless Rangnick staying on as manager is a very real likelihood.

Obviously the interim manager situation hinders the permanent outgoings as well. As does the very high wages. I can see some outgoings - either on free, like Mata, or on loans - the youngsters and maybe some who want to leave. But I can't see us selling any high profile players for a substantial fee - it's a difficult market, and not many clubs usually pay high fees and wages in January.

So I'm not expecting much movement, and certainly little / nothing that will affect the first team squad to any extent.
