Assuming he does play, how do we think Novak will do at the tournament?

As mentally resilient as he is, he's only human. He's not been able to train, probably not slept well and likely mentally a bit drained by it all. I'd expect him to be grilled by questions in the media in the coming days and he may be playing in front of hostile crowds from round 1.

Also if he does go deep in the tournament, would the hostility dwindle by the round?
The consequences of poor sleep/few days without training will disappear after the first few rounds, which he will cruise.

He’ll get a ton of shit throughout the tournament but he could feed off it. Seems like that sort of person. Utterly self-righteous and confident.

Nonsense, I was advised to go get a PCR test by my doctor last month when I knew all I had was a chest infection and wanted antibiotics and each LFT was constantly negative.

I and numerous others in similar situations would know we ain't positive and didn't isolate as a result.

You seem like the type who sneezes that would freak out and isolate.
Not you specifically, but people like you are exactly what's wrong with society these days.

If he plays I have no doubt he’ll win it. It’s his best court, he’s a heavy favourite and I’ve never seen anyone channel odds stacked against him the way he does. Numerous times he’s gone to a level unseen before when down match points - he’ll use this in the same way. I’m definitely not a Djokovic fan and there’s a lot of nuance in the best of all time debate but his highest level is a level I’ve never witnessed before.

It will be interesting if Australian government still deports him. Court ruled that Djokovic followed the rules and government was bending it to avoid backlash.

If Australian government kicks him out then I fail to understand what was the point of this court hearing and court decision.
He might have but I think the Federal rules still clearly state that prior infection is not grounds for exemption and given that he has stated he has no other medical condition, I think there is still good chance he is deported. Just depends on how ballsy they are and if they can take a decision which might cause more anger on the streets from the Serbian fans (there was already some issues today).

He will win it 100%. He's far too good and being booed will only make him do better. Only Medvedev has a slight chance but I don't see him doing it in Australia.

If he gets deported does that come with automatic and irreversible 3 year ban or is that optional and/or reversible ?

I mean I hope we all agree that 3 year ban is crazy harsh.

I read earlier that they don’t have to apply that.

YESHHHHH, We'll GOOO for it.
So we now have a very famous and gifted tennis player, who is a nut and anti vaxxer, who was led to believe by officials in Australia that a positive test in the near past could be filed as an exemption in spite of this being not in line with federal rules, who either cooked up a convenient positive result in a suspicious timeframe or really got positive around dec 16 and behaved like a complete dick and put many people in danger of further exposure, now suing Australia for being allowed and to be able to play in the Open, in an unbelievable feck you to the Australian public who had to put up with these rules and the immigrants who have been holed up in that hotel for years because of a lack of means.

And this player is going to become a poster child for anti vaxxers and covidiots.

Nothing has changed. I would laugh if it wasn't too depressing

Even now, if you offered me Djokovic or the field, I’d go with him every time. He’s so much better than everyone else even without a cause. And he’s probably the best “feck you all” player of all time, too.

My argument is a bit different. If you can't convince a tennis guy, whose IQ I don't know, but he speaks multiple languages fluently, while some other loved tennis stars are incapable of even learning English properly, how can you convince ALL the people to comply? It's off topic, ef it. There are very small, but proven side affects of each vaccine. One tennis player already complained of side effects, but I am not claiming that this player truly had side effects from the vaccine or could it be something else and he associated to the vaccine. Djokovic does have some psychological health disorder for sure. I am not sure what it is, but even prior to COVID he did some very questionable and unconventional stuff, however it works for him to win. He did have that elbow surgery about which he was disappointed. Him "crying" and feeling "guilty" about it isn't normal. What bothers me is that he is painted as "stupid" and "evil". I can assure you that he is neither stupid nor evil.

On another hand I think he was or will be given an ultimatum: Leave by yourself and apologize or we will deport you and ban you for 3 years. He challanged Australian goverment and their ability to enforce the rules. They can't let him win.

Gauging his intelligence level is a tricky one. On the one hand he can speak English fluently but then on the other he thinks you can remove toxins from water through the power of prayer and thought. It’s an odd one alright.

So, he will play? No further action by the government?
Not known yet. Most of Australians are hoping he gets deported and Djokovic fans are shitting bricks still. Djokovic has put us through a lot of drama but this tops it.

What’s left to this saga is for Australian gov to cancel his visa right before the final for it to complete the puzzle.

(This is true).

Mid December, I had a sore chest, chesty cough, sore throat, head ache, felt rough basically... went for a PCR test to check, isolated until result. Negative.

Last week, I had a sore chest, chesty cough, sore throat, head ache felt rough basically... went for a PCR test to check, isolated until result. POSITIVE (and isolating).

I felt exactly the same, exactly. If I had gone to a doctor (not that I would during CV and for these symptoms), he/she wouldn't have known either and have told me to get a PCR test both times.

Mark, before you waste too much time on this, Pogue is an actual doctor.
Don't think that will change his opinion, he's already pretty much said he disregards opinions from doctors and knows his own symptoms better than them. Pointless getting into an argument with people like that.

Oh he is dumb man, Anyone literate who believes you can control water molecules with your mind is certifiable stupid. I have read his book and the shit in there paints an un-intelligent man but driven and hard-working also. Evil he is certainly not though, man has a big heart.

I’m not convinced that holding a big media conference saying they’ve taken on the Government and won in the biggest battle of his career with his brother saying it’s a victory for the “freedom of choice” - thus making him the poster boy for anti-Vaxers is a particularly wise move considering they can still deport him…

Would be hilarious if Novak used pdf editting to fake COVID.
Bad enough for the Aussie people to have had to allow him into the country. Imagine how they’d feel if they found out he was a massive I.T. nerd as well.

I think that’s a tactic, basically, Australian gov. can no longer hide behind some clusterfeck of the process and need to make a direct call and this much worldwide publicity given his superstar status will test how strong the minister’s hand is, not an easy one.

Djoko is sort of a Joker, the perfect villain for these crazy times. He is also full of sh*t, to be fair, and the nationalistic aggravation just adds to the sh*thousery. Having a PM and his government rushing to issue a persona-non-grata order against a tennis player, on the other hand, is so out of proportion to be just as incredible. Bad, bad situation for all parties involved.
All soooo predictable, even the latest brag from Djoko’s clan. Yet, they will be crushed big time and banned forever from AU if the Gov decides he is a nuisance and a bad example for their concerted efforts to contain the pandemic.

Sure they want to support him but his mum and dad give the media great soundbites...

Mum "Novak was subject to torture, harassment. We will hear even more about what he has gone through,"

Dad ""Clearly, some powerful people did not like the fact he is from a small country and that Novak could be the best in their so called bourgeois sport.

This is the end of their game and even if they come up with a new game, he will still beat them."
