Was watching espnfc extratime(my guilty pleasure, do judge me  ).

And there is this question, except Don Hutchison, all went with below sequence:

Start Eto'o, Bench Drogba and drop Salah. Don went with start Salah, bench Drogba and drop Eto'o.

What does red cafe think in this?

Final - Start Drogba, bench Eto'o, drop Salah.
Any other game - Start Salah, bench Eto'o, drop Drogba.

you will drop a guy who has scored in two UCL finals, African Cup final and Olympic final? does not make sense, if we are going by final match logic.

Drogba - With a career record of scoring 10 goals in 10 finals winning 10 trophies at club level, Drogba has been referred to as the "ultimate big game player".

I think Salah is the best player overall, Eto'o the 2nd best player and Drogba the 3rd best player. Therein lies my logic. I think Eto'o and Drogba are probably close in terms of finals and you could pick either but Drogba for me would edge it.

Yeah, it's actually hard to argue with this. But i will

Start Salah, bench Eto'o, drop Drogba
Finals - start Eto'o, bench Drogba, drop Salah :D

For once I agree with the ESPN panel

Start Eto'o
Bench Drogba
Drop Salah

I agree with the panel.

Did Drogba not start the final against us at Moscow where he looked silly after the confrontation with Vidic and cost his team?

It's an impossible choice, there's genuine beyond convincing arguments for all three.

This should be one a regular thread/topic. Maybe each week one group of three gets posted.

Drop Salah. Very overrated. Easy.

Drop the guy with 9 more PL goals in 76 fewer games than Drogba despite playing wide for almost all of them?

Drogba's goal to game record is impressive compared with most strikers, but it doesn't hold up when you put him next to the very top tier goalscorers.

I'd start Salah, bench Eto'o personally.

Start Salah, bench Drogba, drop Eto'o.

Based off the type of players they are more than anything. It's hard to find so many goals playing from wide and I can still have a top quality striker if Salah starts.

I'm old school, might need to brute force it with high balls as a plan b if struggling to break a team down so Drogba on the bench.

Start Eto'o. Bench Salah. Sadly drop Drogba.

Probably start both Salah and Eto’o with the Cameroonian being CF on a little bit more support role, drop Drogba even if I like him the most out of this three

Exactly the logic I went with, although I’d switch Salah & Eto’o for the final. It’s hard to look past Eto’o’s big game record & versatility. Salah kinda misses out in this hypothetical situation as he requires the most out of the three while the other two can certainly adapt to different set ups, partners and even work in a supporting role.

During a league season I think Salah has proved himself worthy of a starting spot. At the very least a place on the bench.

Just goes to show that the games more about just goals.

We were told that weekly when Lampard was statistically smashing every other midfielder in the planet.

Aye, on reflection I defied my own reasoning a bit and would probably switch Eto'o and Salah in a final scenario.

Prime Eto'o was the best footballer of the three but he also had the shortest peak of the three.

People saying drop Salah are nuts, surely some Man United bias against Liverpool is coming into play here.

Salah has an absolutely ridiculous scoring record and there is a good argument for him being the best player in the world right now.

What more does the man need to do to be seen as the same level as Eto'o? For me Salah is better than Eto'o ever was, but for those of you who disagree, what would Salah have to do to change your mind?

One off match that we need to win?

Absolutely start Eto'o and bench Drogba.

Over season, I'd have Salah on the bench instead of Eto'o.

I am not sure that's a strong enough argument against Eto'o. He has won 3 Champions League finals (scoring extremely decisive goals in the first 2). And has won 3 finals with his nation. Of course he's also scored and won domestic finals for Inter and Mallorca while Drogba has lost all his international finals but the 2012 one even though he was impressive taking Marseille to the UEFA 2004 final and Chlesea to the CL 2008 final.

This being said, the 3 are very close. Salah, if he wins something with Egypt might end up even higher given that his club career can still get more impressive than the other 2.

Everytime I think about this I change my mind. You can easily make an argument for all 3 options.

I'd probably say start Drogba, bench Salah and drop Eto'o.

I should say that when I'm talking about Final Drogba, i'm talking about the Chelsea version where he was utterly ridiculous and won them multiple domestic cups and of course their first CL.

Inappropriate Content
Inappropriate question because all 3 played in very different teams and set ups.
Anyway both eto'o and drogba were clutch so I guess start Drogba bench eto'o drop salah.
Edit: or start eto'o and bench Drogba as both were great great players, anyway salah gets the shaft.

This is very easy. Two of these guys have retired.
Start Salah, bench Drogba, bench Eto'o.

Think I'd start Drogba if it was during their better years. Dude always made something happen. Didn't watch Eto'o that much at Barca & Inter years.

Drogba in the middle, Eto'o and Salah as wide-forwards?

Start Drogba every time. The man is a warrior, a leader, and a big-game player.
Bench Salah - to bring on later or as an option, or something different from a central #9.
Drop Eto'o because we must.
