That's correct, he is, which then makes me wonder why he hasn't been linked to Barcelona in recent weeks. I do remember those links surfacing a couple of years back, though, but they amounted to nothing and also came from weak sources.

Tough market for Spurs, Arsenal and Newcastle. Seems like most players wait for bigger clubs so they can't secure their first or even second choices and have to turn to third or fourth.

Would perhaps be the most shrewd piece of business I can recall witnessing from the Glazers. Lingard leaving on a free but the offset of the survival bonus could in a sense cover a fee for the player.

Lingard was the one who wanted to stay and fight for a place, or so he said. I assumed he just wanted to stay and coast his way towards free agency and a nice signing bonus, and now he's mad that the club won't let him leave for peanuts whilst still under contract? Why should they?

We have definitely been playing hardball the couple of years. We got a decent Lukaku fee and we’ve been quite insistent on loan fees and wages generally. We should find a solution here but I think it’s good that we are playing tougher now.

Some horrible takes on the Lingard situation.

He refused to leave to "fight for his chance" 2 summers in a row, running down his contract.

Now he has 6 months left, and he is allegedly refusing going to Newcastle on a permanent, and would like to run down his contract on loan.

Crazy stuff we re even entertaining the loan. If he wants to leave so bad, he can accept the permanent deal, but that might reduce his sign on bonus.

For context, can you imagine players going into the last year's of their contracts asking for loans? If Pogba came in during the summer asking to be loaned to Real Madrid, before going there on free anyway, would we accept?

Very dangerous precedent to allow happening. If players don't want to sit on the bench ( which we should be doing to players running out of contract time), then they can leave on permanent. Not run down their contracts on loan.

For context, imagine Martial wanting to extend his Sevilla loan until his contract runs out, taking 30+ million value off his contract. Don't think we d entertain it.

Loans are for player development, or players needing gametime to be put in shop window, or to make a claim if they find form.

The 4 mils the club is set to pocket is not worth allowing players such as Lingard to absolutely bully the club out of any return on investment.

No player is bigger than the club, and there are no salaries we can't afford. I'm positive had we kept Pogba on the bench last season, he d have had a lot more motivation to leave on a permanent, and we wouldn't have to pocket circa 50 mils loss for that reason.

I miss the days of SAF bullying the players into realizing they are a non entity when compared to the benefit of the club

Real Madrid chief scout went to watch Endrick in a cup final then heading to Monaco to look at Tchouameni, who they've apparently decided will be Casemiro long term replacment.

I'm not quite as angry as you, but I think that's about right, though I cannot imagine that he promised anything from Solskjær other than he can make a contribution. If Ronaldo and Sancho rocking up to Carrington at great expense didn't give him any indication of which way the wind was blowing then he's not smartest cookie.
