Not one man in there. Not one leader. No one to get into tackles, to commit to a dribble, to win the 50-50s, to make a lung busting run, to play with aggression. Soft, indifferent millionaires who don't give a feck.

What a sorry state of affairs. No manager can get a tune out of a team of players who don't care.
There is clearly a lack of mental strength in the squad. Any tough away game in recent years turns into chance after chance for the opposition. Why can’t they come out properly for once? The first 7 minutes of the game was as bad as it gets at this level. So many similarities to the Liverpool game this season, Leipzig last season. We need to shift some of these players out rather than blaming the managers all the time.

Ok first half. Need to be more direct because holding ball 60-70% doesn’t get you chances if you don’t run. Don’t think Atl Madrid are better. Mctominay and Elanga should Come in pretty soon.

It's 4 at the back? Lindelof is just playing as an old school rb and not going forward which has ruined our fluidity of switching the play with overlapping wing backs, so we go right it breaks down
There have been plenty of times Lindelof has dropped in to make it a back 3 with Sancho filling in at RWB. It's not working. Pogba is isolated in midfield so he's easy to mark out the game and dispossess.

Yeah. Just waiting for people to pound him after the game. He's actually been our.... Least worst player this half in my opinion... And that's not saying much...
Yeah, I think Sancho has tried to be positive as well.

Every time I see Maguire and Shaw try to play a tight passing game nested in our own corner under pressure I expect calamity.

I think this whole narrative that they're suffering some England disappointment hangover is less explanatory than the reality that England were lucky with draws and massively over-performed, neither is anywhere close to being good enough to play in a top side. Nor are any right back alternatives of ours, and even Varane is looking petrified tonight, catching a bit of the United malaise.

Pogba has been absolutely back to his sloppy self gifting possession in dangerous areas and Bruno is at his bottom level.

But as a team there is no aggression, there is no fight. And the tempo is absolutely terrible. Instead of stretching play it's as if it's a glorified friendly where everyone needs to get a touch.

If ever there's a time for Ralf to go berserk, it's now.

Of all the mistakes made in the first half, I can't get over Rashford running into 5 or 6 defenders. How did that play out in his head.
He is the last player we need on against a defensive side. Only useful on the counter.

Whatever Ragnick's gone for here is absolutely not working, one of the most painfully crap performances I've seen in a while. Maguire can't progress the ball centrally, Lindelof can't progress the ball from the RB position, Fred's crap. This means it's easy to get 2 or 3 players around Pogba at all times. As a result, we literally have no idea when it comes to getting the ball in to midfield.

We won't make any subs at HT, but I'd love to see Matic -> Fred, Dalot -> Maguire. Get Lindelof at CB, Dalot and DM and Matic in midfield. Give these lot a kick up the arse while you're at it.

I have never seen a team play more static while being a goal down. Except Ronaldo, in fairness.

Everyone else complete and total shite.

Their midfield is very active, always arriving earlier to the ball and United's possession is too slow and predictable with everyone too static, as well as being too far from the goal

    Infuriating to watch.

We're just not a good footballing side.

We don't value possession enough. We move the ball so slowly. We don't break the press well. We still can't press.

We have some players who crumble mentally.

Imagine this lot during the treble run-in. 2-0 down at the Stadio Delle Alpi, these players get back on the plane at half time.
Sad but true. Maguire gets booked and will miss the potential final…will he put in a gritty, leader type, real captain’s performance and show some fight..nah, he just does his down in the dumps face and leads us to a whimpering defeat. Full steam ahead Hale Barns.

The game plan from the beginning was awful. Our players don't look fit. Half of them are keeling over every opportunity they get.

Kondogbia has got Pogba's number.. bank card, birth certificate, car keys, wife and kids.

Let's hope we come out second half a different team, which has been the norm so far with Rangnick.
Anybody willing to stick his body up to Pogba has his number.

Pogba thrives on body contact yet he's extremly bad at it.

The mentality of this Manchester United team is poor. We didn't come out of the dressing room. Players taking 4/5 touches instead of moving it on. Players panicking under pressure. That sequence where DeGea played it to Varane when Varane wasn't even looking was typical of our first half play. Players completely lost their heads, as they have done so many times when the pressure's on. Only positive from that first half is that Atleti didn't put the tie beyond reach. We need to seriously find our stomachs second half.
Complete lack of leadership on and off the pitch.

We're lucky to be 1-0 down, that's how bad it's been. We look like an EL team playing in the CL knockouts, which... I guess we are. The defense is asleep, the entire midfield is terrible and attackers can't get the ball. And when we do get the ball we are so uncultured with it, no idea where to pass, no idea where to move, just no idea what to do. We can't keep up with Atletico while carrying Ronaldo, Pogba and Maguire in the same team, they are pressing us to death and we are just jogging. I have no clue how we turn this around, I don't think even a miracle ball from Bruno or Pogba would work against such an organized side. It's such a deflating reality check to see that even Atletico in their bad season can outpass and outwork us quite easily.

Changes in 2nd half please, go with a 3 at the back and mirror there system. Or just go 4-4-2 feck it. He just needs to change something or just waiting for them to score another. Ties over then. Two poor teams anyway both have got to the knock outs by the skin of there shite.

But Fred can't control the ball.and is predictably dire. Id even have ancient Matic ahead of the ponderous Fred. At least we know Pogba and Bruno can do better. But they don't like being pressed. Fred has never been good enough. You need all midfield components working. But Fred rarely offers anything. So we are shafted.
Fred isn't a holding midfielder so pairing him with pogba seems a bad idea in this game

Danish pundits (Jesper Grønkjær and Preben Elkjær) think this is the worst 45 minutes they have seen from United this season.

When did "stopping a promising attack" go from being an offence punished with a yellow card to being a legitimate tactic to kill games?

fecking hate Atletico, nab a goal, flat back five and stopp every counter with a foul with only one yellow to show for it.

Saw this coming in the build up when Scholes and Rio were talkign about how much Atletico were struggling and how we expect to win this game? Have they watched us in the champions league and Atletico who gave Liverpool a good game?

We only got through the group due to ROnaldos goals.

On a side note, cant believe Kondogbia is still in his 20s, seems to have been around forever and never fulfilled his potential, but showign his ability tonight. Ive always liked him takign away the brain farts he has. Absolutely dominating our midfield along with Herrera workign back.

We are all too cautious or sloppy and the only player showign the balls to run at the defence occasionally in Rashford.....isnt able to.

Clueless and lets not look at the manager again....its these inconsistant, average or weak players in several positions yet again. Only Lindelof deserves any credit

This isn't a rangnick team, so I don't understand why he is getting abuse over this. The squad is a mess

Their thugs are better than ours. They have premium quality thuggery. Simeone has got them well trained. Looks like a tough fecker. I bet he's starved them for a week prior to this game.

Pogba has been poor, Bruno no better. Space between midfield 3 is pathetic.
