I'd rather have played like Atletico that half to be honest

We've played well... me bullocks. Energy has been ok that's about it

Played well and I thougth Ferd who I have often slated was fantastic. Poor goal though, it was a foul first off, put hi sarm across him, Maguire got pulled out of position, has to win the ball there or foul, left a huge gap behind (not wishing to just knock players, but he has been awful again) and Dalot was ball and player watching, unaware...but whole defence is crowded to the same spot, poor defending.

We can still win this, but I think Ateltico have been poor and we have been good, not sure we can keep this up

We‘re doing ok. We have plenty of the ball especially down our left but it feels like Ath Madrid are happy for us to lump crosses in we don’t have much creativity.

That's a brilliant header, he shaped his body to go across the keeper, and just guides it in the near corner last second.

Based on that description, I'm certain you blamed Varane for the Maguire OG from the weekend?
Nice whataboutism. We've conceded twice tonight due to Maguire deciding that abandoning his space and leave the defending to the others is a good idea. Thankfully, one of them was offside. It's a habit of Maguire's, so it's more reasonable to point out when he keeps fecking doing it, don't you think?

We were alright, but that's a hammer blow. Exactly what we didn't need to happen, played straight into their hands. Grim second half awaits, no choice but to go for it, which will leave us even more exposed.
It's 1 goal and 45 mins. We better not go for it. Need calm heads out there and play at least as well as the first half.

It's a foul. He's running full speed and loses his balance, tries to continue, but loses too much speed. It's the kind of foul that's not easy to see in slow mo imo
It was two or three little borderline challenges in a row which should in addition be called as a foul. However there's no way a goal that happens a minute later at the other end should or would be called off for that.

De Gea pretty much stood and watched that header fly in.

Maguire is being targeted by Atletico as they know that he’s clumsy & slow and likely to make mistakes under pressure.

I’ve also realised that McTominay isn’t cut out to playing this level of football.

Fred, Sancho & Ronaldo are playing out of their skins.

Dalot had two players to cover. I was mad at him until I saw the replay. He had to cover the more central player. That was and should be the priority.
Yep, Elanga should have done much better. He’s left Dalot in a lose-lose situation there

I thought that should have been fairly easy to defend. The ball in was quite high and looping, Dalot had plenty of time to challenge if he had looked a bit earlier. I didn't think that was a foul on Elanga, not a clear cut one.

Anyway, it will be the usual slog against a compact team. I am really getting sick and tired of watching the same game over and over. Utd are looking quite good but I expect a couple more sucker punches from Athleti in the second half.

The effort has been top class but apart from the Elanga chance we haven’t created much. They are very slick when they break. I think there will be more goals in this.We could do with Sancho upping it, maybe switch him to the right?
Unlucky to be behind but a long way to go.
    Perfectly put

Wan Bissaka has had way better performances than Dalot has ever managed. He’s in shite form so I get him being dropped. I don’t get people lying to themselves about Dalot.
Wan Bissaka has been shit for months. Dalot is an okay backup. You can say both are not good enough but AWB is definitely the one that should go first.

Why are people blaming Dalot? Elanga didn't track back and he has to mark 3 damn players because Maguire rushed out and completely wrecked the back line. They just showed it at half time there's no way you can blame him there, he can't mark all 3

The foul on Elanga looks soft, but they're usually given. There's no reason for Elanga to go down there over hooking the ball into the box, or trying to cut inside. We had them short at the back for once.

Annoying to be losing when it's the best we've played in ages. With Atletico's shithousing, I suspect the ball will be in play for about 20 minutes of the 2nd half.

Lots blaming Dalot for the goal and yes he should have seen the man behind him but he has to track another runner.

Started with Maguire (not blaming him either) coming out for the tackle and Felix ran into the space behind and Varane tracked Felix. Then Koke occupies the space left by Varane so either one of the midfielders or Dalot has to pick him up, Dalot picks him up meaning Lodi is free at the back post. Typically the winger should then cover that but he was still running back after the incident in the other half.

Best half in Europe thus season and getting fecked by the ref. There was 2 at least 3 fouls before that goal happened, everytime a blue shirt hits the ground no matter how he's blowing. This ref should be in the prem. Fecking hopeless officials again how many times have we heard that. Athletico done feck all. I could see it coming though because we were playing so well.
Not sure why Elanga went down, the foul was before that, he had just about beaten him. The foul on Fred was more blatant.

Not sure why Dalot is being blamed. Rio just did a great analysis and it’s clear as day not Dalot but Elanga and the absent midfield at fault for that goal.
Funniest thing is that situation happened all the time with AWB and everyone piled into him and excused Greenwood when he was RW.

It’s a definite foul on Elanga, it doesn’t matter if it’s soft, there are two soft fouls on him and he goes down without much resistance but that’s modern football.

Didn’t really see it at the time, but spot on.

Interesting that Rio doesn’t blame Maguire or Dalot, seems to disagree with most of you.

Yea on the replay dalot did about all he could. Defend inside out and they had a spare man, nothing he could go.

Seems a long time ago but is there a gif of that ridiculous Fred skill? Haven’t seen a single replay.

Rio showing it wasn't Dalot's fault but the lack of Elanga running back because he can see Lodi is open
