So ragnick bemoans about how open we are defensively but he was the one that played a midfield of pogba, Fernandes and lingard when phil Jones was on the bench who could and logically should have started as the defensive midfielder in the match and has proven in the past to be able to fill thar role under fergie.

It's comment's like this from ragnick that makes him look inept than the actual players

For three games. The sample size is far too small to make any kind of meaningful comparison with Ralf. Who is to say that Carrick wouldn't have performed worse given equal run of games? There's no way to know, and so, really, it's not a helpful comparison.
ah ok then I won’t compare our temp manager with the other temp manager who worked with the same squad.

No it shows how incompetent the players are and not making an effort to do what he asks them to do.

So if he stuck ronaldo in defence you would blame ronaldo for not doing what is asked of him instead of ragnick for playing him there? Honestly we are the worst club for putting clearly average managers on a pedestal as something great.

Who honestly looked at our midfield set up yesterday and thought we wouldn't be wide open defensively?

The squad isn’t wank,
it’s been utterly wank for two managers this season, most of our players have struggled to even do the basics. Yes, it’s wank.

How can anyone watch Telles, Lindelöf, Dalot, AWB, McTom, Rashford struggle to even keep possession or make simply passes and still convince themselves that this is a good squad? It aint.

When Phil Jones as a DM is your arguement you needs to take a nap.

Agreed and its partly why I can't get too excited about a new coach coming in. Ten Hag isn't an alchemist, I'm not expecting him to transform lumps into gold. Some are acting like all we need is a new coach and we'll be playing total football. I reckon many are in for a very rude awakening.

If Rangnick's time at the club proves anything its that our players are either unwilling or unable to play quick tempo, pressing football. Given that's pretty essential to Ten Hag (even if their possession philosophy's are quite different) you have to worry for his ability to reshape the team.

Our squad - In Complete reality - Not on paper - is wank. Based on form for the last 2 years - a good decent sample size...what player gets an unquestionable starting spot for a top 4 team?

seriously...go....

even Ronny is gash 50% of the time...he would make the bench perhaps. De Gea?

That is what top coaches do, make players look better than they are which is why so many transfers flop. They're made to look good by the system.

No one is saying put Ten Hag in charge we'll be challenging City and Liverpool with the current squad but he'll get far more out of our current players.

You mean like how he use to be used under fergie in big matches and 9 times out of 10 got us the right result, yeah
Its like you just woke up from a coma and missed the bit about him being a crock and unable to finish games at cb let alone cdm for around 4 seasons plus.

Do you also want us to throw Ronaldo on the right and tell him to take on 3 players blitzing down the wing?

Yeah, of course, just by coaching Wan-Bissaka's touch, control, decision making in the final third and playmaking are going to get to Cafu levels.

That's why Pep and Klopp didn't have to buy entire new squads. Cos the likes of Joe Hart and Joe Allen could just be coached into tiki taka and gegenpressing geniuses.100%. All you need is a good coach and Lindelof will become a centre back that can outrun Son and outhench Antonio.

If we coach Lingard enough he can probably become the next Zidane. We should give him a new contract!

Did I say he would have to play the full 90, he would have still been a far more logical option than pogba who himself looks gassed after 70 minutes in a match.

I'm sorry for questioning the amazing all time great manager that is ralf ragnick

No imbecile would play Phil Jones in CDM, let alone a proper manager. You must be wumming!

What Fergie did a couple times when he was in mid 20s has feck all to do with how he is today. This doesn't even have anything to do with Rangnick.

From what I remember he's maybe played about 4 times in midfield. 2 of those times was when he was given the job of man marking Ronaldo in the CL which I have to say he did a good job. Not a good idea inventing scenarios to try and make a point

It would have been similarly disastrous, but at least it would have had some comedy value. Pogba at CDM yesterday was, as shamelessly copied off Twitter, like seeing a polar bear in Texas. He was clearly playing for himself in that 2nd half, hence the substitution and subsequent boos.

He’s on something of a hiding to nothing though.

Still has a better points per game rate than Ole over his last 23 games. I just don’t think he’s suited to doing an interim job, he needs to change and bring in personnel to fit his system. An interim ideally is someone more pragmatic, that will simply get the best out of what he has, Ragnick hasn’t been that guy.

The real plus points of his appointment is two fold, his consultancy role after the season and that he wants to play a similar style to ETH so it’ll be extremely helpful to ETH seeing and consulting with Ragnick. Bringing in a top pragmatic interim may have just papered over too many cracks, now it’s laid bare.
Surely he’s on a free ride? He’s done nothing with a squad which, for all its faults, finished 2nd without Ronaldo last season. Somehow, he’s managed to get nothing out of players like Bruno and Rashford and seems to have alienated a lot of the players.

Despite that, a large proportion of posters on here seem to attribute no blame to him at all. The narrative under Ole was a good manager would be doing much better with this squad. The narrative under RR has been that the players simply aren’t good enough.

I thought it was the right time for Ole to go but I think it’s likely we’d have done just as “well” were he still in charge.

I'm not asking for him to be our main defensive midfielder but in current circumstances I would take a passionate phil Jones who was brought to tears when he played against wolves, will lay his body in the line for this club and stick to his defensive responsibility given by the manager compared to pogba who has zero desire to defend or put in maximum effort for the club and has tried to hold this club to ransom for a completely undeserved wages to stay

Passion merchants dont necessarily give better performances. Theres a reason he isnt and wasnt starting for over 3 seasons.

He hasn't taken over the team after they just got 2nd though. He's took over a team in the shit broken and mentally not up to it.

The idea he's to blame for Rashford or the other under performing players is hilarious. Players playing individually bad is on the players, Ralf is only at fault for our system and even then he's one hand tied behind his back.

I'm very much starting to believe all those overly critical are just salty Ole fan boys. No one can be this oblivious to the context of what Ralf picked up.

What's this with Jones as DM or Lindelof as DM. It's not FM or Fifa. Get a grip.

All he could have done is shore up the defence by bringing a third CB and Matic on at half time. That's his fault. If Matic was ON at half time, we aren't conceding that second goal.

It's criminal how he is left to hung dry. A DM in Jan would have made us much better for this run in. Another horrible management decision.

Ah, if in doubt, start throwing the word “fan boy” around. I doubt Ole has any fan boys to be honest. I wasn’t in favour of appointing him, think he did pretty well for his two full seasons and made a right mess of this one. However, that doesn’t excuse the next manager failing to raise those players to at least match the level they were at under Ole before. Just have a look at the immediate impact a “championship level” manager like Ole had after Jose’s poisonous tenure or what Tuchel did post Frank.

Neither Ole, nor Frank took over a side getting routinely humiliated by the likes of Leicester, Liverpool, City and even fecking Watford. Hell, fecking Young Boys beat us.
We had a -1 GD for all games this season up to & including Watford. And make no mistake, the rot set in at the tail end of last season.

Wank performances doesn’t mean that the squad is wank. I agree that Telles and AWB are hopeless, but there’s no reason we shouldn’t be getting more out of the rest of our players. Abandoning our defence for an attacking minded midfield consistently creating chances for our attackers is one thing, but with shit shows like yesterday, which we’ve seen far too often, and top 4 still a possibility, it’s a bit too easy to simply blame everything on the players. Establish some sort of foundation that resembles a functioning midfield and defence, change formation and opt for more players in midfield by forsaking an attacker that either way has feck all influence on the match when our midfield is getting overrun.

Ralf has had plenty of interviews for available positions as manager, is it pure coincidence and bad luck that he’s been overlooked and never managed to establish himself? Maybe, just maybe, he isn’t good enough for this level and he’s having a negative influence rather than a positive one?

There’s a chance Ragnick is wank, but it’s definite that this squad is wank.
Both Ole & Ralf have tried every option in midfield, and they are all shite.

The level we were at with Ole is this season not last. Last season is completely irrelevant because that's not where these players are at.

Some of you lot still haven't figured out that this season wasn't just a blip, it was always coming. We relied on individual brilliance (as most of us tried to point out) and without that (Bruno especially) we collapsed. I mean no shit we were great when Bruno had the best form in Europe

No manager can come in and turn on individual brilliance like a tap and trying to impose a proper system mid season is problematic. The system part will take ETH time as well so if our players don't find their own form then it'll be rough start to next season too.

He played well in his rare start against wolves which was his first game for over a year, he should have been given more game time since then as he looked easily as competent as any of our other defenders this season.

But back to my main point, ralf can't complain about a lack of defensive cover with the midfield line up he put out yesterday, that would be like putting bissaka and shaw up front as our wingers and moaning about a lack of goal threat.

Devil's advocate... Pep wanted Fred Ronaldo and Maguire. I'm sure there are other examples.

Yes he can, because he didn't have any holding midfielders fit outside of Matic. Jones is not a holding midfielder. His start against Wolves was as a center back.
