Sell. Get him out of the club. He’s nowhere near good enough to be leading the line for united and by doing so the last 5-6 years shows just how far in standards we as a club have fallen. The lad is no better than what Danny Wellbeck was and at least Wellbeck gave it his all when called upon. The club have preserved with the likes of Rashford for long enough, he’s absolutely done at united. Get him out the door.

Get rid, this is the prime example of what ETH needs to fix, entitled overhyped millionaire "footballer" using the club to promote themselves and using pr to cling on to it shutting down and influencing any criticism while being utterly useless on the pitch, depending on numbers we might need to hang on to him next year as a squad player but under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should his contract be renewed, he cost us nothing so he can float in the background and leave on a free if required.

That’s not true at all. Why are you even saying that as a statement of fact? Ronaldo is doing so much more despite being 37 yrs old. Elango busts his gut , Mctominay does more than him, Bruno does more than him, Sancho, Telles, everyone is doing more than him. But he just sticks like a sore thumb when it comes to workrate. It happened the whole season not just one game. Every game he just refuses to do the workrate required and just strolls around. What he did last night was a disgrace.

The whole team is suffering due to coaching but that is no excuse to not even putting the effort. Why are you making it about the coaching when it is about the professional pride and workrate ? Coaching isn’t gonna cure his laziness and effort. I’m sure you know all that so why are you twisting it like that ?
But those players haven’t dealt with the last 5 years of crap, had his career basicly ruined by working under coaches awful at progressing players, terrible at training coaching attacking players, while at the same time having to play in a position diffent to the one he broke in to the team playing which he showed incredible promise.

I challenge anyone to keep a positive attitude whirling working in what is clearly an awfully ran company year after year, where the managers don’t or can’t help you progress and your in a role you didn’t sign up for, and each year you can see your window for big improvement get smaller and smaller.
Of course he is gonna be grumpy and resent full and that’s gonna impact his play.

Guess what, everyone has the option to move to a different company. Tbh I think most of what you said there is nonsense, but even if it were true and I was willing to shift all responsibility of Rashford's career on to everyone other than him, he could at any point hand in a transfer request and move elsewhere to ensure his career isn't "ruined"

As much as some people do their utmost to deflect blame and responsibility from players on to others, it just doesn't work. We are all in control of our careers and we all choose how much effort we put in when working

No new contract, that would be utterly bonkers at the moment.
Let him have next season to sort himself out and see what Ten Hag can do with him and then decide based on that.
Thanks for bringing some rationality to the discussion. The anti Marcus brigade are really going hysterical, there are even posts that accuse him of `using Manchester United for fame and fortune`. The lad is undergoing a drastic loss of confidence, clearly is struggling to enjoy the game he used to love and is a prime example of how all the instability of the last 5 years or so has affected those younger players who would have flourished in previous versions of United that made this club legendary.

He has been absolutely awful all year, but, personally, I'm not ready to write-him off. There's still a player in there somewhere and I fancy Ten Hag to pull him out of this slump. Still only 24 years old (younger than McTominay, for example).

He's part of what's so wrong with this club. Our fans idolise the average and Rashford is very average.

Of course it isn’t all other peoples fault. You always have to take responsibility for your own progression. but equally he is player who seems like he loves the club and wanted to be here.
Plus you just have to look at the club over the past 5 years, no attacking players have improved, the attacking structure over 5 years have been almost universally criticised. Rashford has pretty much completely been played on the wing (under Mourinho more like a wing back at times) rather than the striker he broke through as. So it was basically hey we want you to play this other position, but not really have the capability as a constant to really help you succeed. Plus what ever you think about Rashford he always use to give it his all for the first 3-4 seasons in the first. His work rate has only massively dropped recently.

If it was just Rashford then maybe there would be an argument that’s isn’t mainly his fault but when pretty much every player coming in is regressing, no attacking player has got better in that time. Then you have to have some sympathy with guy.

This phrase seems to be used repeatedly. Yet it's so hackneyed and carries no objective evidence of being true. No team is winning a league title with Rashford up front than they are with Maguire in defence.

In a stable team structure with far better players and that means attitude as well plus making the best combination of player strengths, Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire could very well contribute to a United revival. Harry needs to give up the captaincy as he wasn`t ready for it at United and as Rio has pointed out, he`s been scapegoated to some extent for others` failings.

No new contract see what ten Haag wants to do with him and if he does well next season try to get him to renew.

This thread needs a third option.

There's no examples of players ever coming out of slumps and reviving their careers, in the history of football?

He'll have a new manager next season, new coaching staff, new players around him and hopefully a new system of play with a greater onus on attacking football. He had 19 goals and 9 assists in 2020/21 and 18 goals 7 assists the season before and is still only 24 years old. You don't think there's the slightest chance of him recovering his form after arguably the worst Premier League season in the club's history?

Need his wages drastically reduced. The idea of a new contract would mean a wage increase and we need to be ruthless with these players that simply aren't up to the level that the gravy train is stopping

Excuses for Rashford really takes the biscuit. His biggest problem is lack of effort. It doesn't matter where he plays for ffs make an effort. Even Berbatov when he played makes a much better effort than Rashford does.

He's been dreadful and much of it is his own fault. I don't think many people would dispute that.

The question is, under a new manager and new coaching staff, is there a chance he can improve and get back to where he was 12-18 months ago? If "yes", then we should persevere with him.

Can't stand the sight of this knob any longer. Sell him already to anyone who would have him.

Gashford will be Lingard no 2 in the dressing room after Lingard leaves.

Personlly I’m under the impression there was a great player in there if he had been coached well over the past 5 years, now he has missed the key years of his development at 24 there is probably a solid squad team player if there if Ten Hag coaches him well for a few years.

All this hope that under ETH, Rashford can be turned around.
Is that just wishful thinking or a poor gamble?

What about Rashford + £30m for Kane
Please don´t. Kane is good, but we need to change our approach of buying players close to their «top of descent». We need players on the way up, not peaked players. If we buy Kane, i´d probably expect ETH to fail, because i think it would be a sign its not his decision, and if we don´t back him, he´s gonna fail like everyone so far.

As we wont have CL football next season. That should give ETH more time on the training ground. I'm willing to see if he knuckles down and takes his chance under ETH. If not then sell him. But dont reward him right now with a new deal.

It's because of CR7. He's been a petulant child since Ronnie's been receiving all the plaudits (deservedly). That veneer of being called the golden boy for ManUtd has been wiped away due to his own selfishness and being exposed for the brainless footballer he is.
What's the excuse for his being crap long before CR7 re-signed?

The whole team is strolling though basically apart from Fred.

He didn’t use to be like that, when he first came up he gave it his all, even under Mourinho when he was asked to basically almost as a wing back.

But you spend years under mangers who don’t develop players, in what has consistently been the worst coached teams basically since Van Gaal left. He has basically had the key years of his development wasted. Then a new coach come in (Rangnick) and doesn’t see the young prospect he once was, but a player who is now in his mid 20’s whose basically had all his potential wasted and drops him in favour of younger players who still have potential. That’s gonna annoy any player.
Oh poor Marcus, no wonder he can't be bothered to even try, must be so hard for him.

I can understand this season, but why would Rashford have been unhappy the last couple of seasons?

Becuase you can see your career and potential slipping away working in club that At least over the past 5 years has been unable to improve players. Of course your gonna become disillusioned

I think this is where I fall.

I'm struggling to understand what the benefit would be in terms of giving him another year. Even assuming he has a huge turnaround resulting in a decent season, what then? He would have a year left on his deal and would be wanting a long term contract with a pay rise that would be a financial commitment of at least £75m. Is he ever going to justify the kind of salary the best players in the league are earning? He's already reportedly earning more than any of the Liverpool squad. That's before even considering the effect his salary has on the rest of the squad.

At the same time his value in 12 months has at least halved as teams are free to discuss terms with him 6 months later for free.

If he was just having a bad season then fine. But he’s clearly downed tools and isn’t even trying. I don’t care if he was born shitting green and gold scarfs, how can any fan forgive that?

The example he sets for younger players is fecking horrendous. Overlooking that because of his accent is equally grotesque. The new United way? Not being arsed because you’re not being played in your favourite position. What a boy

I still don't agree with that, his workrate has been rubbish for years. It's not something new because I remember complaining about it since Mourinho's second season. People just focused all the laziness and lack of pressing talk on Martial and overlooked him.

Most would be surprised to discover that his defensive numbers this season have been better than under Ole. His output just masked all of that and his rather other obvious deficiencies.

When was his last run of genuinely top level form? He hasn't been off for a few weeks, feels like he has been in decline for multiple seasons. The days we thought he was blossoming into our next homegrown superstar seem a distant memory.

I'm against this talk about giving him another chance under a 5th manager -this is the attitude that sees the likes of Lingard somehow hang around the first team for a decade.

It's time to be ruthless and say thanks and good luck to Rashford. I'm sure Everton and West Ham (though West Ham seem more sensible these days) will rush to sign him for big wages.
