They have the best model to success of any club and they almost never fall for the hipster mentality. They get the best players they can get for every position and the best manager that can utilize the players to their maximum capacity, regardless if the style is in vogue or not.

Many will say the same of our 99 side.

This Madrid team is similar to the treble winning team in their incredible comebacks and never say die attitude.
I m not referring only for this year. I m talking about Madrid in the 21st century. In 2000, 2014, 2016, 2018 they never really were the best club and they were outplayed by many teams each year.

Okay, because some of you didn't get it.

They are the best club to play for, because you always want to win anything there is to win and they pay huuuge attention to European Cup (and we don't get it in England, because some people really think Premier League is more important than European Cup). I can't see players like we still have in our club (and extend their contracts) to be kept at Madrid. You're not good enough? Goodbye.

We may be the best club in England (same level with Liverpool, I wouldn't say someone's better), but we're not even in top five clubs to play for. But, we pay huge money to players and there are some who choose this instead of fighting for trophies. We could have problems to recruit new players with just Europa League, but we also give good contracts. Europa Legaue for Real Madrid? You'd still join because that would be probably only one season, at United you never know if it's not going to get even worse.

And to play and support in one video...

We had probles to organise a trophy parade, they have such numbers before the game when the bus is coming to the stadium and they watch games on a big screen as well.

Tell me you wouldn't like to play for a team like this.

And that you wouldn't like your team to have such support.

We were lucky in 1999 and were outplayed in 2008 by Barca in semi-final.

That's football, you sometimes win games when you're not the better team, but your desire to win and never say die attitude are extremely important.

We were lucky in 1999 in a game that we were missing key players and in a year that were actually challenged in the league and won it. In 2008 we were outplayed by Barca in the first semi final, where we lost a penalty. And again we won the league. I agree that never say die attitude is important. But it wasn't that attitude that gotten them through vs Wolfsburg in 2016 for example or vs PSG and Chelsea this year.

I bet they could have similar explanations to yours., so I don't get what's your point. We can diminish every success.

Most of the teams are lucky, even if they're great teams.

Even the great Barca of 2009 (the treble winners) were extremely lucky in semi-final vs. Chelsea. It doesn't matter today - they're one of the greatest teams in history.

Since when is it not okay anymore to like a club that’s not competing on the same level as your own club?

We really should be a lot closer to them.. but we’re cursed. In terms of stature, only United and Barca are close.

Wonderful City indeed. However, I wouldn't swap any of the few European cups we got playing brilliant football for all the ones they won by luck/miracle.
Like the one Karius gifted them, both vs Atlético or this year's if they get it. They have great fighting spirit I give them that but their football tends to be rather poor even when they win the CL.

So is there anything positive with United.

We can have problems with recruiting players (although we didnt have problems before) but we also give huge contracts. So what's your point exactly?

We're not in the top 5 clubs to play for? That's according to some survey I suppose?

I guess support is shit also?

What's the part about problems organizing a trophy parade about?

Of all the strange threads this one is the strangest.

I did tell a few of my colleagues at work who thought that City were nailed on to reach the final before both the 1st and 2nd legs, and that you can never, ever write off Real in this competition. It is basically their private property. They won it 2 more times than their nearest challengers Milan and Liverpool during the 'old' European Cup era, and have won 3 more times than their nearest challengers Barcelona during the modern day Champions League era. They've reached the knockout stages without fail every single season from 1997/1998 onwards I think. They have a manager who has won it a record equalling number of times and could soon set the record outright (I personally hope he does), the best striker in the world and the red hot favourite to win the Ballon d'or plus legendary midfielders who all have 3-4 winners' medals each.

In terms of the city itself as that's mentioned in the title, I think that Valencia would be a much better city to live in than either Madrid or Barcelona (when I went there I quickly understood why it is regarded as among the best cities to live in Europe), notably with better weather due to its location, with both excellent beaches and mountains nearby, plus being large enough to have everything you need but also far more compact etc. But sadly they don't have a team to match !

There's a weird hatred for Madrid on here, can only presume it's jealousy. They helped us a lot, and tried to help us more after the Munich air disaster. Plus, they're not a plastic little club like all the one's they've dumped out this year. Hope they go on to win the CL.

The biggest club when I was growing up over 5 decades ago. Still the biggest club today. Their prestige is simply unmatched by any club. I visit England every now and again and people there really do not get how big the club is. There is a reason why every superstar declares that they want to play for either Real Madrid or Barcelona. Manchester United's greatest ever player, Cristiano Ronaldo, literally forced a move to Real Madrid when Real Madrid was in a much worse position and Manchester United was in their zenith.

They have 13 European cups, which is almost more than every single British teams combined together. Haaland wants to play for Real Madrid, Mbappe wants to play for Real Madrid, Pogba wants to play for Real Madrid, Zidane did not care about English football, Ronaldo De Lima did not care about English football, basically all of the best players in the history of football do not care about playing in England and always want to play for either Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Madrid are a state-run club that have benefited from massive corruption at both nation and UEFA levels over the years, so they're hard to truly "like", exactly, but they're a better devil than Man City.

That's just a mind boggingly stupid and ignorant thing to say. UEFA hates them and would gladly kick them out if they could. Madrid are owned by their fans and Spain has a socialist government. And the whole case of the preferential treatment they got by the Madrid local authority was actually defeated in a European court (weird how the English press talks about the case they lost but never ever the appeal Madrid won).

That said I'm not in for the theme of this thread. I'm a United fan and find it a bit weird to have a specific thread for crowning another club.

Madrid does have one thing over united and this is not a go at out supporters! But their supporters do not suffer fools gladly. While both united and real place great expectations on their players just down to their history, those madrid fans will hound a player out if they want or if standards are not being met. If you imagine pogba playing at Madrid with the Madrid supporters feeling the same way the united suporters currently feel, pogba would be jeered, whistled etc. Even rashford and lingard would be hounded as well. The whole club from top to bottom, from the executives to the fans demand success.

You make some good points but also some very ignorant ones. Real and Barca are very much fortunate with weather and city life compared to most English clubs.

The Premier League also wasn’t the force it is today when large Ronaldo ‘didn’t care’ about it.

Real and Barca are super clubs, don’t think anyone has suggested otherwise.

The funny thing is the first great team I remember was Ajax from the early 70s
Which meant playing subbeteo most wanted an Ajax team but can't remember who I thought was the biggest club, it would have been United but after that there was Celtic, Milan and probably Madrid
