Where’s that come from?
Damn it, when did he tell you that?

Just to add - the below confirms the same
I don't think he'd want to leave but if the club have told him he's surplus to requirements then it's likely to phase him toward the door. I'm sure he's very motivated as a player though and ETH knows his strengths/weaknesses so he'd probably still be hit, I hope!

Is he prepared to graft? i would prefer an up and coming talent rather than yet another player who costs a bomb and then phones in his performance each week
I'm going to go out on a limb here and take a guess that Ten Hag isn't going to put in him a double pivot sitting in front of the back four. I'm expecting him to get us playing more like Barca with quick one touch passing and dribbling out of tight spaces.

A reminder

This season, the so-called Double 6 was the solution?

“Well like I said, the players’ qualities determine how you play. Take Frenkie de Jong. We have really been looking to find ways to use his skills in the best manner. Where can he play best, for the team and to showcase his talent. Everyone was screaming: Frenkie is the biggest talent, etc etc. Well yes. But, where? In midfield? Ok, but which role? His quality is that he makes the forwards perform better. He is a wanderer, an adventurer, he’s always on the move, like a shark. With the ball, often, but also without the ball. So if you put him on 6, he’s away too often. But you need to give him freedom, otherwise you can’t the best out of him. It wasn’t an easy puzzle, so I dediced to play with two number 6s and only one attacking mid. And in this way, we can also dominate the half space, and force opponents to choose. So on the first day of pre-season, that is how we started. And we started without Frenkie, by the way, as he wasn’t fit at the start of the pre-season.”

That's helpful.

So effectively we'd still need a disciplined, defence-minded DM beside him.

Isn't he on insane wages at Barca?
Per https://www.thenationalnews.com/spo...re-the-top-earners-now-lionel-messi-has-left/

The top 10 earners at Barcelona
1. Frenkie de Jong - £354,000 a week

2. Sergio Busquets - £258,000 a week

3= Sergio Aguero - £230,000 a week

3= Memphis Depay - £230,000 a week

5= Gerard Pique - £210,000 a week

5= Ousmane Dembele - £210,000 a week

5= Miralem Pjanic - £210,000 a week

8. Samuel Umtiti - £208,000 a week

9. Sergi Roberto - £170,000 a week

10. Jordi Alba - £150,000 a week

I have not actually fact checked these figures, but considering just how reckless and incompeten Bartomeu was, the figure is probably accurate.

Well I guess we'll see if this is true. However, I am wary of getting a player who doesn't really want to be here 100%....

Please tell me we’re giving them Rashford in some sort of a deal, as I’ll put that down as one of the best deals we’ve ever done.

Because how much would he cost? I’m guessing we’ve got to sell a bit if we really want to make that 4-5 new player ideal summer.
Why? Rashford scored more goals than Ronaldo last season, from the wings while injured. Why are fans, mostly on the Internet, queuing up to spit on our own players? Yeah, he's had a terrible season, so has everyone, so you're going to stamp his on his corpse? Fans like these, we deserve feck all. Get in the bin.

I think he was the first one who reported Varane joins United according to @Adnan
The Varane story was from a different journo. Romero is a good source for Barca but he did in the past say United were the front runners for De Ligt. But he's currently gone a step further with De Jong, and is reporting the deal is almost done with United.

PSG made De Jong a crazy offer and Barca were forced to match/beat it last minute. Instead of walking away the paid up

Why do I get the feeling he might have similar issues to Pogba in the PL...
He already had those Issues at Barca but if he comes here he would be working under the coach who actually knows how to get best out of him so we can rest easy .

Sign this guy and a DM and all of a sudden our midfield looks competent again. Would be a superb signing as long as he is accompanied by an anchor DM. But to expect him to play as the DM would be a disaster.

I'm not 100% believing it.
Romero might be tier 1 but I remember during the De Ligt transfer he kept linking us and nothing happened.

Don't get your hopes up lads

I know everyone is saying that we'll need pretty much 10 signings this summer but I'm putting this here: if we sign FDJ and Tchouameni and nobody else, I'd be ecstatic with just those 2.
Same for me. A dm and play making cm are my summer wishlist.

The best player we could get anywhere in world football. If it’s available, do it. Give him the freedom of DM that he’s been missing at Barca. One signing that would honestly transform our entire team. He’s that good.

Yeah that makes it very plausible then. Obviously a exciting player with a track record of working extremely well under the incoming manager, so if we can avoid making him the best player in the club this might be good business.

Any concerns about him adapting to the pace and the physicality of the premier league? A very exciting signing if true.

He is one of the few midfielders worth overpaying. If we paid that for a 24 year old Modric today, nobody would bat an eyelid. He is in the same bracket of talent.

We can match that and I nice signing on bonus.

Question is do the real one’s want to come out and say this is the wrong profile. We should be going for Phillips on less wages for 30m cheaper.

Not at all. Calm player instead of him getting used to the pace of the prem he will bring the game down to his pace

Probably nothing in it. No doubt there will be a Romano "De Jong is a name United are discussing internally" tweet soon anyway.

If this is true then I hope we've done our due diligence on this guy and he actually wants to come.

feck another player whining about the weather, the restaurants in Manchester and everything else while phoning in performances.

How Hag used De Jong so successfully for Ajax is, I gather, how he's going to play him at United. So two number 6's alongside/behind him then.
