As he hasn't said anything I think that's just the conclusion people are jumping to.So nothing to do with religion then.

Indeed. As he hasn't said anything I think that's just the conclusion people are jumping to.
He should not be. But if true, he deserves a bit of shitstorm for it, not supporting equal rights and tolerance for the gay community is hardly a a "belief system" worth fighting for. It might be fine in Senegal (where homosexuality is a crime), it's not in France (at least in most of France) and he deserves a reasonable amount of criticism.Fair play to the lad. It's a brave move.
Isn't he's a practicing muslim?
Why should he be punished for not wanting to support something that might conflict with his own belief system?
Fair play to him. It's not easy being the first to do something like this. Hopefully it's a non issue, there's little reaction and we can move on to a time where footballers are free to be open about who they are and who they love.Tweet

Good for him, it is good that he feels that he is able to do so.
Good luck to him.
Take issue with it all you like, I was asking a question off someone else.I take issue with this phrasing. You can also practice and not be a fundamentalist. Or practice and not be a cnut.
To me, it implies he's anti gay because he's a good muslim as opposed to those that tolerate gay people because they're not as devout?
What does "punished" mean? If he doesn't want to wear company clothing, the company can take issue with that. In any other line of work he'd be out of job.
It's one thing to voice an opinion, it's another to cowardly miss a game every year to avoid wearing a shirt with pride colors without saying anything to the press or on social media. And it has to be noted that all the other Muslim players are not dumb enough to confuse acting against homophobia and promoting homosexuality.
I have since found out he's probably just another religious hypocrite that picks and chooses what applies to his faith. He wasn't punished.
He didn't seem to have an issue advertising gambling when he was an Everton player.
If he's fine with gambling but not gay people then that's his choice but he can't use his religion as an excuse because he obviously doesn't actually give that much of a shit.
You would like to think so... however ongoing racist in football shows that a group of football supporters arent advanced at all.Well done to him, it can only be a good thing and positive step.
I'm sure there's Neanderthals at every football ground who would use this to target him for abuse but would like to think society has advanced enough for fans to know they wouldn't get away with it without receiving more abuse themselves.
Nothing wrong with picking and choosing what applies to your faith. He chose wrong.Take issue with it all you like, I was asking a question off someone else.
It's been pointed out that he had no issue wearing gambling and alcohol sponsors.
I have since found out he's probably just another religious hypocrite that picks and chooses what applies to his faith.
Agreed 99% but I actually see no reason why he shouldn’t be punished to be fair, he’s a professional football and has contractual obligations, if I were a manager obviously I’d understand and grant leave for personal reasons like Ronaldo few weeks back, but bullshit like “I’m not playing because there’s a rainbow on my shirt and I decline to show any sort of solidarity with gay people yet I consciously chose to make career in Europe” I’m not buying at all.He should not be. Yeah, I think you might be right, but the thing is, it's going to be hard for the club to prove that he didn't play for this specific reason since he might have found another excuse.Agreed 99% but I actually see no reason why he shouldn’t be punished to be fair, he’s a professional football and has contractual obligations, if I were a manager obviously I’d understand and grant leave for personal reasons like Ronaldo few weeks back, but bullshit like “I’m not playing because there’s a rainbow on my shirt and I decline to show any sort of solidarity with gay people yet I consciously chose to make career in Europe” I’m not buying at all.
Plenty of gay men in other fields and in other sports.Women are far more advanced than men. Incredible that this (homosexual male players) is still a big issue/taboo.
Certainly not in basketball.Plenty of gay men in other fields and in other sports.
In mens football, is mostly a culture thing that's been perpetuated due to a historic lack of precedents.
It's not.Women are far more advanced than men. Incredible that this (homosexual male players) is still a big issue/taboo.
Not being funny but how is that different to football associations and the like dining and banning players for wearing t-shirts with certain messages during games or showing support for uighars or Palestine but then the same associations are in uproar over a poppy or Ukraine?IF the Gueye thing is true I am not surprised. I can’t count the number of ‘devout’ religious people I’ve seen that fornicate, steal, gamble etc. but can give you 100 verses off by heart about what the Quran/Bible says about homosexuality being a sin
Oh please because the average football fan is known for his/her religion or their smarts.
It's not.
It's 2022 and yet there are billions of Human Beings who believe in the word and teachings of the Bible (in all its guises).
Peeples aint 2 smart.
Because when it's during independetly by the players :Not being funny but how is that different to football associations and the like dining and banning players for wearing t-shirts with certain messages during games or showing support for uighars or Palestine but then the same associations are in uproar over a poppy or Ukraine?
Was going to say the same. What’s amazing is it’s 2022 and religion still has a voice about things like sexual orientation. It's not.

The Islamic religion is completed and perfect. The people are not. Allaah said if I don't want humans to sin I would have created a perfect Humans. Life here is a test, after life in this world is the reward we get. And Allaah created the hellfire for a reason.IF the Gueye thing is true I am not surprised. I can’t count the number of ‘devout’ religious people I’ve seen that fornicate, steal, gamble etc. but can give you 100 verses off by heart about what the Quran/Bible says about homosexuality being a sin
So the FA can pick and choose what they want, whilst have a rule about no politics etc, and footballers have to say ok?Because when it's during independetly by the players :
- it hides the sponsors on the shirt during a goal (and sponsors want to be on the shirt on replays)
- it can't be controlled so you risk having players embracing causes that are not welcomed by the FA.

This actually happened to Marvin Gaye. His surname was actually spelled ‘Gay’ but he changed it cos of the connotations, especially since male soul singers are regarded as sex symbols and ‘ladies man’It's not.

And I find it ironic that a player's surname which is literally pronounced as "Gay" would be anti-Gay. Maybe he was just bullied growing up, because of his name, and it's left a mental scar.
There was a few like that and I went on a bit of a reporting spree but it's overwhelmingly supportive. I always find it funny that some homophobes are so obsessed with gay sex. When I hear someone is gay I don't think about what their genitals are doing at all but judging by some of those tweets some of them think about to an unhealthy degree for a supposed straight man. It does make you wonder.Reading the comments under the tweet of Blackpool it's no surprise football players don't want to come out. There are so many absolute idiots out there.

But Newcastle isn't owned by the stateLesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) people in Saudi Arabia face severe repression and legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents. Both male and female same-sex sexual activity is illegal. LGBT rights are not recognized by the government of Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has no criminal code and the primary source of law in the country is the Islamic Sharia, derived from the seventh-century Quran and the traditions of Muhammad contained in the Sunnah. Homosexuality and being transgender are widely seen as immoral and indecent activities, and the law punishes acts of homosexuality or cross-dressing with capital punishment,[1] fines, public whipping,[2] beatings, vigilante attacks, vigilante executions, torture,[3] chemical castrations, imprisonment up to life[4][5] and deportation
When did I say it was different or even bring up any of these thingsNot being funny but how is that different to football associations and the like dining and banning players for wearing t-shirts with certain messages during games or showing support for uighars or Palestine but then the same associations are in uproar over a poppy or Ukraine?
