I don't see who they drop for him, unless city are buying Luiz back?

So this guy is going to a team that already has a better midfield than us, but apparently he isn't good enough for us?

I swear we're just going to have our todgers pulled by Barca over FDJ all summer until we realise we're left with Fred and Mctominay for another season then we panick buy Souček for £60m.

We need depth! Why not bring in a player that had a good season in France who is also young enough to ship out on loan before selling him if he doesn't turn out good enough? But that's irrelevant as without even seeing him play I could confidently say he's better than Fred and Mctominay - it's literally a no brainer, but this club has no brains.

So I guess Fabrizio was first for this one then or do people not want to admit that?

Wonder how many complaining we haven’t signed him have actually seen him play.
We’ve all seen how our midfielders play though  That’s the reason why we’re all desperate for a new face in midfield… surely can’t be worse then what we’ve got.

Anyone who can run, tackle and pass a ball with above average accuracy will be an upgrade.

Can't wait to sign him for £70 million next summer when he's "Premier League proven".

Luiz has 12 months left and shown no indication to extend so we'll probably sell him to Roma for 20m +. Arsenal also been linked.

McGinn has been pretty poor since January aswell.

He is signing to play as a 6 for us.

Seems a good signing for us but we sign good players and still collapse with 15 minutes to go when 2 up in games so hard to feel much excitement about it.

Or he become an irrelevant mid-table player and all the know-it-alls throwing a strop quietly sweep this episode away.

It’s somewhat telling when Villa of all teams (all due to respect to them obviously) are the ones swooping in to sign him up for free.

Perhaps, it's the player's decision. Something like Aston Villa and Gerrard can guarantee him gametime (they may be selling one of their midfielder. Douglas Luiz?). Perhaps we can't promise him that? I meant he's also linked with Roma, Atletico too, and he still chose Aston Villa.

I don't know, it's not really telling in terms of not being able to improve us, when Tielemans went to Leicester, for example, and he's a far better player than Fred and McTominay, and there have been countless examples of very good players going outside the elite clubs in the PL in the past 5-6 years.

Ive seen him play 10-15 times, not whole games but a good half or more in most of them.

Once Camavinga was gone, he was the player I wanted us to sign in the summer. He isnt at that level of potential by a long shot.

My only concerns over him were the ones you have with anybody stepping up to a new league but he seems all about positioning and readign the game which he is very good at rather than energy, interesting to see how he adpats to the premiership.

He did have a tendency and I think its a tactical one with the club to play very deep without the ball almost like a sweeper.

But if the fee was £20m odd he would have been a good signing, free transfer should have been a no brainer.

He is technicall good, has good sort passing, strength for his size, shields the ball well, is good in the tackle.

Crazy that this summer now my main hope of the players I know for defensive midfield is Bissouma, so essentially a lot of our hopes for next season personally depend on two players up for serious sexual assaults, that sums up where we are at

"Know-it-alls", are you serious? What's your agenda against Kamara?
Cleary nothing against the player. Something against the insinuation that we are some sort of unserious club for not signing the player. Based on little more than the fact he is free. He’s going to Aston Villa after all, not Bayern. People are speaking as if the club need to explain themselves for not signing Kamara, which is nonsense.

I think people are frustrated that we have a job of work to do this summer with recruitment and may need to sign 5/6 players just to replace the outgoings. We know the Glazers aren't going to give the recruitment team a blank cheque to pay what's needed for each position so we are going to have to box clever and this would clearly have been a value signing in a position we are crying out for an improvement and which would have freed up funds for other more ambitious targets in positions that have a price premium. I'm not sure if Kamara was anyone's first choice but are there many available options better than him (Tchouameni just doesn't seem likely to me at this stage).

It's also frustrating that quality defensive midfielders don't grow on trees but in the last two years there has been some excellent young defensive midfielders on the market such as Koopmeiners, Locatelli, Camavinga who would have all improved our midfield significantly but for some reason we haven't pulled the trigger. This year, Kamara is available for free and Tchouameni is available for a lot but even a lot could end up being a bargain for him. There really haven't been convincing links to either. The pool is shallow and is drying up so are we now going to go another year without our DM or are we going to settle for someone far inferior.

Are people really cool with hoping we sign people with credible claims of sexual assault? After everything we've gone through with Greenwood, Giggs, Butt and the allegations against Ronaldo, surely signing people that are decent human beings isn't too much to ask. Might also help with dressing room toxicity. The signing of Ronaldo disgusted me. As did inviting Giggs back to the directors box for Ronaldo's debut after the allegations against him.

How is that so different from Romano though? People giving out about Romano for being too safe, but he's trying to verify his sources. You either take risks or you don't. Ornstein reported that Mbappé was going to Real Madrid.
Don't think many saw Mbappe staying

I agree, sadly though the entertainment and football seems more important. People saying Greenwood is finished at the club regardless and its disgusting...forget, didnt ROnaldo pay of the woman in question, is the guy at West Ham that kciekd the cat still getting much abuse, not from West Ham now he is performing. Countless cases of players with really distateful off field activities....you could go right back to Lampard and Ferdinand, Gudjohnsen......all long forgotten now, it isnt a recent thing young people having too much success, money and fame within the game and acting disgustingly. There is the hope they can mature into decent people, that is no excuse or consolation for some of the peopl ethey have treated so disgustingly and changed the lives of along the way though is it.

We do need to see the results of the investigations first of course

You think he will?

Two very decent players there.
I actually think he will start with them, can see Buendia and Ramsey fighting for a spot further forward, think Kamara will play behind McGinn and Luiz.

He is definately good enough in my opinion, think he may struggle for the first few months to adapt to the pace and intensity of the premiership though and mightnot be til 2023 we seem him as a regular starter for Villa, I dont doubt his ability to be a really good player for Villa, depends what his desire and attitude are like. As another Marseille player failed at Arsenal in Guendhozi and is doign well at Marseille and totally different player but he is a similar level of ability to me, certainly good enough a player to play for top premiership clubs

They've been absolutely god awful for much of this season and neither of them are DMs. He will be competing with Nakamba for game time and I expect him to win that battle.

He's going to slot right in as a 6. And TBH I want to really upgrade on McGinn and possibly Luiz for the 8 role. I don't know if that is realistic, but we've signed Coutinho (twice) and Kamara on a free when a ton of 'european' clubs were after him.

Luiz has 12 months left and shown no indication to extend so we'll probably sell him to Roma for 20m +. Arsenal also been linked.

Yeah, I think Luiz is gone aswell, and wouldn't at all be sad to see McGinn follow him out.

Last part is funny, as this news was breaking right before the game, so most of my attention went to him and not on the game :D :D :D

My only caution on this is we signed Sanson who was good box to box player for Marseille and he's started about 5 games for us in 18 months for a variety of reasons.

Kamara has higher potential I imagine but can remember people going mad about Soumare from Lille who was key in them winning the league and he's struggled to make an impact so far at Leicester.

Interested what the guys who actually watch French league on here regularly below PSG think.

He doesn't play McGinns role all, so would be playing with him if anything.

In theory, he should work very well as a "false CB" in the DM role, as Cash and Digne get forward. The energy from Mcginn and Ramsey should compliment him well in your midfield and should help you retain possession better - something you were terrible today at.

Soumare was more fabled (from what I remember) for his physicality and ability to cover ground and it didn't translate to the Prem at all. Not really this guy's strengths.

I've described him as quite similar to Rice. He is a better passer and more composed on the ball in my opinion, but worse carrier of the ball and not as athletic.

Cheers for that.

Crucial we get the DM role right as Luiz looked decent a while back as more of a tempo 6 player but regressed in last 12 months and now likely leaving and Nakamba nowhere near good enough to be regular starter in this league.

Wonder if we might try for Bissouma aswell and play him as atheltic box to box 8 type to give us more presence in central midfield and he can also slot in deeper roles away to likes of Spurs (where he did a fantastic job nullifying Kane a few weeks back).

Sort of stuff we need to do really if we're ever to be serious about qualfying for europe through the league again.

What are your thoughts on Lucas Gourna-Douath? 18 year old DM/CM at Saint Etienne..

Still a young player that requires nurturing but he's got potential imo to develop into a very prominent player in his role.
