Absolute robbery. If Valverde had passed the ball to Benzema and a Liverpool player had fluffed an interception, then that resets the offside due to a "deliberate action". But here, Fabinho clearly gets the last touch before Benzema with an obviously deliberate action, and somehow they conspire to give Liverpool the decision. Twats.

I genuinely have no idea how that isn’t given?

There are two reasons, whether it hits Liverpool defender last and whether it’s intentional?

1) A Liverpool player hits it off another Liverpool player therefore the deflection rule does not come into play, he’s onside.

2) Even more bizarrely, the defender is sliding in to make a tackle. To therefore claim it as a deflection is ridiculous. It’s an intentional tackle to prevent a goal. Is he sliding for a laugh? Of course it’s intentional?

Unless the first ball played is offside, that is one of the worst VAR decisions I’ve seen and in my top 5, I reckon Liverpool have benefitted from at least 4 of them.
Goal.

For everyone that is saying it came off a Liverpool player, apparently it needs to be deliberately passed back and not accidental. :nervous:
No it needs to he a deliberate play of the ball which it was

It's deliberate when you go for a ball and touch it before anyone else

what a fuking joke of a decision....yes he was offside as there was only one defender b/w him and the goal but the pass wasn't made to him by a team mate as it came off of Fabinho when he went in for the tackle

don't get how you can take that goal away

Regardless of the offside call I've been a bit disappointed with Madrid's reactive tactics. My only hope is that they can bring more energy on the pitch when Liverpool tire and that wins them the game.

It was obviously offside, come on, the only weird thing about it was how long it took VAR

It’s not. The “deflection” get out clause is supposed to be when an opposition player touches the ball just before the final deflection. The ball bounced of fecking four Liverpool players before it got to Benzema, who was the last Madrid player to touch it and can’t fecking pass to himself!
I thought for sure Konate got a touch on the ball on the way through to Benzema, absolutely 100% it did.

LiVARpool even in the CL

Madrid have no tactic here, other than fire a long pass to Vinicius and pray. Should still be winning, though.

it’s clearly a goal, everybody agrees.

No idea how the referees don’t know their own rules

We'll go for it after they score. Can't make it too easy

Madrid are playing a seriously risky game here. They're putting Courtois under a lot of pressure with his kicking

It wasn’t even that controversial to be honest, we’re just so used to the GK being last man.

No one deliberately passes back to an opposition player. It's always accidental.

If VAR was available in 2018, They would have chalked off the benzema goal because Karius "didnt intentionally" pass it to him. Joke!

I think they just wanted to make sure Valverde touched the ball before being tackled. Also may be looking at a potential penalty.

They are saying it was unintentional on Fabinho's part :houllier:
