Yes to both. I like this game! That centre back that captained then during the fa cup final too...

Googles frantically

Gary Mabbutt! Used to have his football card.
Garth Crooks
David Ginola......I am on a roll

Feck it, I had reservations about this cause of the price, wages, and him not particularly wanting to be here, but if the club and ETH are all in and he's our main midfield target, then... feck it, let's do this. I give you my permission, Man Utd. Go, be free, embrace the muppet!
That was quick. But all aboard the hype train!

I even luckily got promoted in time to really embrace the muppet life this summer. :wenger:

I'm factoring recession and inflation, considering the reports that Barcelona want us to front-load the payment(s). If this were last season then I'd agree.

To make my point clearer - with 5 - 10% inflation rate and the inevitable higher interest rates, I believe that a 45M one-time payment will be worth more than 60M spread equally over 5 years.
I'm no expert on finance but even if we pay a fee upfront we'll still amortise it on the books over the length of the contract, won't we?

My understanding was that incomings counted as if you were paid upfront and outgoings amortised over time, regardless of the actual situation.

Im at the point where I have no doubt in my mind Frenkie will be a United player next season...

I'm so so so looking forward to seeing Frenkie playing in his strenghts again next season under Ten Hag again..
I'm so so so looking forward to Manchester United being an enjoyable team to watch again...
I'm so so so looking forward to seeing all of you fall in love with this guy next year.. Both his personality and his football style..

None of you can imagine the impact he will have on this United... Even all of you who want this to happen are still underestimating the impact this guy will have..
Frenkie de Jong when played in his strenghts is just something else..

I'm so looking forward to this happening..

(I will be so dissappointed if it doesnt happen......)

Get De Jong then add Christian Eriksen on a free and the midfield options start to look so much better. We could even afford to gamble on Mejbri and Garner being our squad depth

De Jong, Fred, Eriksen, Van de Beek, McTominay would be a nice selection to choose from.

We may still be missing a defensive minded player, particularly if De Jong was injured. You could argue all those players above require a more defensive minded midfielder to get the best out of them.

With an agreement looking closer, I'm hoping that even a disinterested de Jong will be a better DM than Mctominay

Lovely stuff.

I also had a Ruel Fox card. Wasn't he a nippy winger? I remember vaguely liking him as a player at the tender age of 8 or whatever.

Anderton was classy. Shame he was made of glass.

This is happening and I'm all in.

The player wants to join. Get it done.
Of course.

Frenkie @OT June 2022: Manchester was always my favourite English club and Arnold Muhren was my idol. I grew up watching him play at Manchester.

Will be interesting to see if he is worth the hype if he joins.

Seems like a less productive Pogba in a midfield two to me but what do I know.

The 'he doesn't want to come' always seemed to come from the Barca media anyway, which they're obviously going to say. My main concern was when Frenkie came out himself and said that he doesn't want to leave.. But again, he's going to say that while he's contracted there isn't he.

If ETH wants him and is convinced by him, then it's good enough for me. Welcome FDJ.

I feel like we need a MF partner for De Jong more than another AM. Otherwise we're banking a lot on Garner being good enough.

United fans and the summer transfer window, its like a horror movie. We know what is about to happen but we still watch with anticipation

I have prepared my mind for same old story, we have a new manager you would think we will do our business early to allow more gelling time but here we are

Oh well, let's see what happens

Being Dutch, there's nothing strange at all about Barca being his dream club, and obviously he'll have been desperate for it to work there. In an ideal World he'd spend his entire career there, play where he wants to and be a massive success, but the World isn't ideal.

Footballers quickly change their minds on their "dreams" when they feel unhappy, not wanted, or not utilised correctly.

A cohort of red Cafe musical specialists must be set working on a chant that is actually good so we don't end up with the disaster that was the ten hag chant!
Hey Frenkie?!
I was walking down the street one day
When I looked up I saw a friend
Hey Frenkie, do you remember me?
He looked at me and then I blushed
'Cause I remembered I loved you so much
Way back then we were friends going together
But then you left me
Frenkie, do you remember me? Frenkie, do you remember?

I get feeling some of you absolutely love the fact that we’re shite as it allows you to feed your complaining fetish.

What was wrong with our business last summer? Signed our main target in Sancho by 1st July and had announced Varane before our first game of the season. Ronaldo was obviously a bonus. That was in a major tournament summer too. But don't let that detract from the narrative you're pushing
