If we get him it at least adds a modicum of balance to our wide options, we have 7 on paper but 4 of them are total unknown quantities, 3 of which are the RW options.

LW
Sancho
Rashford
Garnacho

RW
Antony
Pellistri
Elanga
Amad

When? He played him exclusively on the left starting from his first full season except for that period when Martial was injured and he was terrible there.

He was upfront when he was appointed as an interim manager. And moved wide the following season.

This kid in his second season of European football has 22 goal contributions in the equivalent of 28 games (minutes-wise) as a winger. Why are people moaning about his productivity?

Agenda posters need not answer, thanks.

And he has never been an option for Ole up front again because he didn't really play well there. He then excelled on the left in 19/20 and his output remained very good for most of the following season.

I'm not really sure what your point is but Rashford has played upfront for Ole, started there in 2015 and has been excellent. And @DevilRed isn't suggesting that he should be used exclusively as a striker but that he should be used closer to goal which is true and fits with the best versions of Rashford that we have seen whether we are talking about LVG or Ole, as a striker or inside forward.

We’re definitely slightly less incompetent than we were. The competition has increased hugely though. Swings and roundabouts.

Thats exactly it. I remember the days pre-Fergie so I don't know what people are talking about when they invoke the ol' 'falling standards' crap.

My point is that buying Cavani had nothing to do with Rashford's position which is what his post indicated.

Yes, Rashford historically has been at his best as an inside forward but he hasn't been good for the last year and a half in whatever position he's playing and he's usually close to the goal anyway.

He hasn't impressed me much by what I've seen, think he'd struggle in the PL.

The links to all the Ajax players are a bit concerning because it seems like we've not done any proper scouting, yet again.

I think we just need to get him further up the pitch and closer to goal. Also in more counterattacking situations.

He's played all over the front line and its about time he plays a more set position now he is coming into his prime.

Whether or not he is a "striker" or "9" or whatever is just semantics.

Hopefully signing better attacking players to dovetail with him and most importantly acquiring a functional midfield (that can pass) will see ALL our players improve.

Looking at best position, I like our balance atm.

What say we forget about Antony and get Sanchez back instead?

He has actually been further from goals in the past 20 months and less willing to move into crowded central areas from wide. In fact since shots per 90 have gone down dramatically, 1.6 last season compared to 2.4 in 20-21 and 3.2 in 18-20. I'm also under the impression that his touches per game in and around the box have decreased significantly and he is more likely to be found low in the opposition half.

And to put in context with Antony, that's what I like about someone like Antony and Sancho they are more about what happens deeper when the rest of our attackers are good in and around the box, none of them allow use to easily bring the ball in the last third.

 I honestly didn't think there was any discernable difference with Elanga whether he played LW or RW last season.

Elanga is a left winger. Literally said so himself in interview last week

Does It really matter ? Does anyone count him as a strong candidate for our team in the future ? I really do not see anything that would suggest there is a player in there. Other then being quick i seriously not see anything he is good at. Right now we have only Sancho so we desperately need someone for that other side.

Reckon a good portion of all these links to Dutch players is just lazy journalism. Happened with LVG as well.

Is he one of the most productive in that league?

If you want to ignore his CL and cup games for some strange reason, then he’s still the most productive right winger in the league.

Brilliant you can make such snap judgements of young talent

Your quite right - just pure click bait speculation - nobody really knows what Utd are up to or not - but the longer it goes without a signing the more the frenzy continues.

I would take that

Yea I remember similar. He has been moved around the forward line alot. In some ways that may have hurt his progression.

Ole played him upfront before we brought in Cavani. He was so good for spells. Especially that one goal against spurs where he made an incredible diagonal run to carve them open.

Hopefully in ETH's system he will get closer to the goal where he is most effective. I don't count his spell under Rangnick as the norm. He has far more to give under a better manager.

Martial was Ole's main striker. Rashford almost exclusively played from the left.

Another feck about transfer the club will mess about with. Just fecking buy the guy .

And LVG actually signed two Dutchmen from the Eredivise. So not really lazy journalism.

I'd fecking carry him to spain/italy/germany if someone would take him for a fee

If this transfer is reliant in money raised from a Martial sale then we may as well forget about it.

Going to be very hard to find a cub willing to take Martial with the wages he is and will expect to stay on.

His loan spell just highlighted how unreliable he is.

its annoying because debut season Martial was a higher level than Antony but he fell off. Biggest disappointment. We thought Shaw and Martial would be the best left side in the league

Glazer should review the financial and authorize ETH to spend up to 200 mil so we can start bringing in players. If financing a players is dependent of selling a few, we might as well forward about it and stay mid table. This show the ambition of the owners. 200 mil, we will get Timber, Antony, FDJ, Pau Torres and 1 backup striker. The squad will be ready to start the season with a bang.

Find me another player for that money with his qualities. Ajax usually are pretty fair with their prices.
