I'm predicting at least 4 weeks until this comes to any sort of conclusion. You know when a player goes on holiday, nothing happens. Then it's usually only when they're back for a couple of weeks that we see any sort of movement.

Can't we just park this one and work on other signings?
how can you park a signing that dictates what your transfer budget will be? If you have £120M spending £70-£80M on De Jong will only leave you £40-£50M (so maybe a few free signings like Eriksen, Danny Ings and one Timber/Anthony), but if you don't sign De Jong you have £120M for signings so the quality of player you can sign goes up.

De Jong has made Man Utd constipation in terms of transfer activity and the lack of it. The De Jong blockage needs to be fixed first.

Because De Jong is holding everything up as we don't know what budget we will have

What you need is a deadline for a decision one way or the other. And move on. But the club seems reluctant to set a deadline for some reason and seem happy for De Jong to hold up our whole transfer window.. despite deadlines making things happen.

maybe Ten Hag needs to be willing to move on, he's probably putting too much pressure on the club to get De Jong at all costs. The club want to try the best to do what Ten Hag wants and don't want to let him down so are happy to let the De Jong transfer saga dominate the whole summer. If it's what Ten Hag wants.

What number are you on? I play wayyyyy to much FM
I had numbers that was probably not good to share with anyone before I got a family on my own. Nowadays it’s nothing at all. Every bit of time goes to family and business.

I will for sure start again when the kids are a bit older. I just love to play that game, realistic game or not, it’s so addictive and fun.

What’s your number? :)

He’s come out and said that he’s ‘Already at the biggest club in the World and I’m happy here so there is no story’. In other words ‘I wouldn’t sign for the shitshow that is United for £500k a week thanks’. Close the thread now.

Wait I just seeing De Jong is on 350k per week.... I hope we are not planning to pay him that
It's Euros, apparently.

Still a lot of money, though.

(Then again, we won't be getting him on the cheap. It's not like we're offering guaranteed trophies - or even CL football, for that matter.)

I usually play around 3/4000 per game. I stated right at the bugging too, just can't help myself! I also have a family with three children but they are a little older now and I try not to let work bog me down. Still, probably play a little too much.

Edit: incorrect number

It almost wouldn't sit right with me if FDJ didn't need some convincing. We haven't dined at the top table for nearly 10 years domestically, and longer in europe

For every week we don't sign him we're saving ~€300,000. Similarly Barcelona are losing that amount. Murtoughnomics, baby.

It’s fine to do something that give you relaxation and fun. And it’s not harming anyone.

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus

Set a budget we would be willing to pay and spend the rest. If we don't get de Jong then spend the money on an alternative who, in all likelihood, is cheaper. Maybe even 2 players. Why risk not getting anybody else just in the hope we can sign de Jong? Would we want to spend 100m euros on him? There has to be a max we will pay and it will probably be less than Barca want but they would take eventually. We just can't afford to wait for that 'eventually'.

Frenkie to McTomminay on his first day : "Hello, it is a pleasure for you to meet me. Today I'm going to teach you on how to pass the ball without shitting your pants, in the next session we'll learn how to play football without hiding"

What if he flops like DVB?
That could happen.

Call it a calculated risk, I suppose.

(To be honest, I'm not convinced we should go for him at all - but there's an element of risk involved with all transfers. My stance is: if this is a player ETH wants and thinks will be a good addition, then fair enough. If ETH is a hairless con artist, we're fecked anyway.)

ETA Damn autocorrect.

Doesn't want to leave Barca, doesn't want to come here and have no Champions League - this is dragging on - move on to other signings - God knows we need them. If we somehow manage to get him, he'll be coming against his desire anyway. The only saving grace is that he'd be playing for ten Hag - ex manager, maybe lift his spirits. Under any other manager it likely wouldn't be an option anyway.

every player can flop. However the situation between DVB and De Jong are quite different

A- VDB was brought by a failed Cardiff manager who had no idea of coaching and management. De Jong would be brought by an established manager who knows him very well
B- We didn't need VDB as we already had Bruno. We do need De Jong as the alternatives are, erm, McTominay and Fred

My only two concerns regarding De Jong is

A- He doesn't want to come
B- He'll need a top quality DM to do well. We don't have that

We need to stop embarrassing ourselves. Sign some young hungry players instead of chasing players up their own arse who think they are too good for the club.

In that quote he used the words. "at the moment", in regards to his position at Barca. Bit a nothing statement and aligns with what we have known for 265 pages, Barca need to sell, he doesn't really want to leave but that "at the moment" might signal he knows he'll be sold?

The opinions keep getting worse. Are you still going to say he’s up his own arse when he’s starting for us in a few months time?

Looks like a signing we will miss out on. Barca will find a solution to their problems and we will have egg on our faces.

All the reports coming out, Barca saying they have another meeting this week on their finances where they need 500m. If they can find that money, De Jong stays.

This guy is very close to Koeman apparently.
