United minus the Glazers
If we haven't signed anyone when pre-season training starts, I'll start to worry. As for now, let our new scouting team show their worth.

And m afraid you need to take stock of where we are at. Both Liverpool and city are 2-3 seasons ahead at this point in my opinion
The fact we are behind Liverpool and City is obvious right now is clear. The table shows this. But there cannot be an acceptance that a club the size of United should not be competing for titles. Do you think Barcelona accept this? They are in trouble. They aim to get out of it. My deep fear is that the fans are settling for mediocrity; settling for rubbish. If you settle for rubbish, that is what you get. United must always seek to the the best.

Well let's look at last season.
We were smashed in 4 games against them.
City +73
Liverpool +68
United +0

We finished 35 points off City and were 23 points ahead of relegation. So it's understandable that they'd be more attractive.
That isn't the point. It is obvious that last season we were way behind City and Liverpool. The league table shows this.. This is a new season. Our aim should always be the title. This is United. The fact we are still looking like amateurs off the pitch with recruitment, well, that is another story.

Not what I’m saying. I’m saying we recognise that the 2 top teams are city and Liverpool and that we build correctly so that when we are ready we have the team in place to do so. It’s gonna take time anyway to implement the coaches philosophy fully. Rome wasn’t built in a day and all that

Believe what you want. Some of you Now Now Now types need to give the man, his team and the new coaching team time to work. The amount of moaning because we haven’t announced a signing yet. Jesus
We have heard this so many times over the years and it is quite tiresome. Fans who are bemoaning the lack of transfers are looking at those we are trying to close the gap with get their recruitment done ... so the gap rather than closing right now is getting wider. Seriously, if you cannot see that this club is hopeless at forward planning and has been for years, you are refusing to look. Loyalty does not mean ignoring what is staring you in the face.

My point has been that we have had the entire structure reset now. From this point on it’s about moving forward and seeing how they do FROM HERE.

I am excited for the start of this new era. New signings or not. We have a lot of good players in the squad that managed 2nd just a season ago. Plus a new manager to put his stamp on the team. Hopefully impose some authority, and drop players who aren’t putting the effort in.
Even if he can just revive a bit of passion, and get the Ghost of Rashford back to putting some effort in, we’ll be better than how we finished last season.
I would rather not sign a player than sign one who clearly doesn’t want to come here (FDJ). What sort of attitude are we likely to see from a player here against his wishes? Screw that for a game of soldiers.
The biggest problem last season wasn’t the players that we had. It was their levels of application. Yes we can improve the squad. Yes we should be looking to improve the squad. But the number 1 priority is to get the players attitudes fixed. If we don’t do that, any new players we do bring in will just be sucked into the malaise and be a waste of time anyway.

But this should already have been done. And I question that there even is a reset when Murtough and Fletcher with limited experience are still there and the same old story of dithering remains. Make no mistake, the only changes that qualify as reset is the Glazers gone. You can have the best men (and we don't) in place and if we push and push and Glazer doesn't press the 'yes' button we end up in this continual arduous merry-go-round of nothingness. We have wasted time since November, when we fired Ole. Instead of getting in Conte and reset then, and then forward plan... we dilly dally around and here we are... nowhere. As ever. We will (hopefully) get people in the door. But it will be painful, as ever, and it won't close gap on other rival clubs who have already done business. I mean, even Villa are way ahead of us.

This was always going to be a tough summer for a number of reasons. But the biggest and most obvious is that Ten Hag hasn't seen the squad up close yet. It's one thing knowing the ability and past performances of a player, but their personality and character within the group is just as important. We have a manager and an assistant that improve players. There's no point rushing into spending and wasting yet more money on big name players. We have to recognise where we are and build a long term plan of effective scouting and player development. That takes time. I'm pleased to see we aren't being bullied into overpaying for players as we long have been.

I started off not agreeing, and then came to an understanding of where this is placed. I agree. We don't need another undermining Pogba. Best decision (and we didn't even do the deciding!!!) was his departure. Lingard was a disciple who care more about his off-the-field activities than on. But I am not sure even with Pogba gone whether the dressing room is going to be a happier place if we don't bring in reinforcements to make up for the numbers that have left. One big concerns for us, in my opinion, is Matic leaving. The fact he wanted out to go to an inferior league is worrying. He always seemed to be a top professional and actually improved the longer he was with us, but his departure is a blow.

How can you talk about future planning and Conte in the same post? We clearly skipped on him because it's short term thinking, and waited until the summer for a long term target.

FDJ is obviously our main target this summer. If we actually manage to agree a deal for him within the next week, we'll have secured our main target (in a position where we're cripplingly weak) within the first two weeks of the transfer window opening. And that alone will suddenly mean we've had a good start to the summer, as we then shift focus to less difficult signings elsewhere.

People will have plenty of time and reason to complain if/when things actually go wrong. But as is it's still on course to be absolutely fine.

My problem is that Ten Hag has zero experience of being a manager in a top league [the Eredivisie is not that] , let along a manager with one of the biggest clubs in the world, and let alone dealing with the meltdown that currently exists at Old Trafford. Right now, on June 18, I can see us heading ever downwards and he will pay the price.

It’s mind boggling the club can only work on one deal at a time.

I think you are being extremely dramatic here.

It's very hard to change things from the top down during a season, these things take time and everyone at the club pulling in the same direction, which again is hard to do when that quite clearly hasn't been the case.

I think the club is definitely on the right trajectory now, with the right manager at the helm.

Fletcher has over a years experience in his job role now and prior to that has been a coach in and around United. So not sure what lack of experience you are alluding to here?

As for the villa quote!! That's so out of context it's untrue.
They have signed a back up GK, a player who was playing for them anyway, a CM on a free (no one else appeared to be on for him, United certainly weren't), and a CB whose standard was Newcastle a few months back.

The drama, hyperbole and levels of panic in here are ridiculous really.

Tell that to the fans, when the downward spiral continues. Fergie told the fans to get behind Moyes. But when the going got tough, they realised he wasn't the man for the job (at that time) and turned. It may be that fans are going to be patient and re probably more wise to the real issues at United, and that is at the very top. But maybe not. The reset that you describe is window dressing. The old issues of dithering and ineptitude in the transfer market remain. No other club has this level of garbage. So if there is a reset, we are not seeing it. You can be the best coach in the world, but you have to have the tools to do the job.

I mean if you think like that you may as well give up!

First come to the realisation that the glazers aren’t leaving through us moaning on forum boards. They will leave when they leave. Or ironically when the investment stops paying off, which would be if we continue to fail for a number of years. The irony.

so in the advent of them not leaving. This is a reset. New coach. 2 DoFs. I don’t include Fletcher in that because you’ve inferred he’s a DoF when his job is nothing of the sort.Anyways there are numerous threads on that already.
Experienced coaching staff. New scouting system. Old heads out the door. Released a bunch of players that many fans wanted gone

numerous examples of people promoted to DoF with little experience and going on to be successful.

have some patience

It's definitely a risk, no doubt. But then that's often the case. Is it more of a risk than say, poch though? Sure, he's experienced this league, but he hasn't won anything really.

Conte would have demanded more from the entire club and dragged us closer to the top. But Jose also did that and left us with such a weak foundation when he inevitably started falling out with people. The top teams take time to assemble and develop, even klopp and guardiola struggled when they first came into this league.

I think it's a risk worth taking. The Dutch league may be hugely inferior, but ajax have been dominant under him, and they weren't before he arrived.

The club did not “release” them. Their contracts expired and they left on a free. Some of them ran down their contracts to do so. Those players should have been sold earlier instead of being allowed to run down their contracts. There was even a contract offer made to Pogba that he refused to sign, which is the exact opposite of being released.

Who exactly has the club released that the fans wanted gone? If your'e refering to Mata, Pogba Cavani Lingard etc that's not the club getting rid, they all wanted to leave.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

Except we aren’t are we? We’re in talks with numerous representatives of players. We’re only directly negotiating a fee with one club at the moment because we have a budget and that deal will dictate what we can spend elsewhere. We’re also trying to shift Bailly, Jones, Henderson and AWB. There is no magic money pit this year - we’ve blown the inheritance Ferguson left on a decade of ineptitude and the fee/wages of De Jong make it a huge package which has a big impact on a budget this summer.

Surely those player's agents should be looking for clubs for their players, if someone is interested that club contacts us to discuss. I hope this is happening.

We didn’t “miss out” on bissouma, we were never linked
We are just stupid. If Spurs have done their own investigation and don't feel bothered by charges pressed against him after all, then nothing's gonna happen to him.

And for people out there still believing in Rashford, let me remind you that his poor attitude has been directly correlated with the sacking of 2 managers. I have no time for a sulking fool with an oversized sense of self-entitlement at this club anymore. It's already bad enough that we have Anthony Martial at the club, but it's even worse to have two like that.

Wasn't it said we were doing research into the character of players and their backgrounds, with the Greenwood business, maybe we didn't want to go near him, just in case.
Don't you think Tottenham have already done their own investigation before they went for Bissouma?

I disagree with your entire post and the point I made is just one example of you trying to put a positive spin to make it look like the club know what they’re doing.

I repeat, saying the club “released” certain players, to make it look like they did something positive, is very inaccurate. Because in reality it was players that were allowed to run down their contracts and leave on a free instead of being sold earlier.

It's quite possible that we can only afford this one deal. Once done, we'll need to sell players to afford a CB/RB/RW (so our new RB budget will depend on how much we can sell AWB for, RW budget based on whatever fee we can get for Martial etc sell to buy, essentially).

I'd go and support another club then mate as Rashford ain't going anywhere and Martial at best will leave on loan due his wages.

Imagine if the reason we are only focused on the De Jong deal is because that's all our budget right now
That would not surprise me actually. It would be a shame, but it wouldn't be surprising. I think we have more though, the 120M euro claim rings true, but that would be just about enough to get one other player in after De Jong without selling anyone. Maybe waiting to see how much is left after the De Jong deal is finished?

After a decade of giving everyone the benefit of the doubt, I find I have more sympathy with this sort of attitude now.

But it’s not as though the whingeing will help. Anyone who decides not to whinge continuously is not somehow complicit in the failure of the club. So I also think, yeah, let’s see how we do with the new structure.

This morning, I stamped my feet, demanded some elite signings, then had a little cry. Chins up, eh.

So you prefer to keep Rashford just because he's a former Academy product doing a lot for kids from neighborhoods... while forgetting how and why he was elevated in this position in the first place? He and Martial are both lost causes as footballers; they have become nuclear toxic in big part because of Pogba. I would gladly accept any offer so they can pack their bags and leave.

Wait…who? Rashford was injured for the majority of Ole’s time last season and he had sod all to do with Mourinho’s sacking?
Rashford was very poor at the end of Jose's tenure when he was supposed to grow into a leader. As for the remaining moments of Ole's tenure, Rashford showed no desire to put a shift after he was supposedly given time to recover after the Euros and the surgery. I can be okay with a lot of things when things are not going right in a player, but a lack of effort is not one of them.

Rashford has at least shown he's got the quality. He's had a tough year but I'm not giving up on him yet. If he has another bad season then it might be time to go.

Ole got two good years out of him. If Ole can then Ten Hag should be able to as well surely?
