I’m getting distinct vibes here that Romano hasn’t really got a scooby about this deal. His price is different to others and he’s acting like we haven’t even asked De Jong if he fancies the move…when United sources are saying he’s been convinced and personal terms aren’t expected to be an issue.
That's sort of correct. From what I've seen, the furthest anyone has gone was Luckhurst saying that that Ten Hag has lessened De Jong's worries over joining United. Whittell, yesterday, reported that the club has yet to start discussing personal terms with De Jong (which is what Romano said in the past) though they won't be an issue. It might be a few days until we get some info over De Jong wanting to move to Manchester United specifically over other clubs.

Not sure what that guy is in about but €100m was only mentioned once by an unreliable source and made no sense as the current price had already been mentioned a lot. They were never getting that much.
Is a cracker of a deal for United. The club doing good things this summer it seems.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

When reliable sources clearly briefed from the club are saying we want the deal completed by Thursday after supposedly spending a month agreeing a fee with Barcelona I think it’s pretty safe to say we know he’s coming. The idea we don’t yet know he wants to join once we agree a fee which Romano is pushing is completely absurd. As per usual he’s acting like if he doesn’t have the info on something it hasn’t happened.

Nope we got CL and he was coming until Atlerico got a transfer ban and he decided to stay and help out
Ah yes that was it the transfer ban I remember now. I knew it was something unusual.

Probably worked out for the best anyway.

Regardless the club have negotiated the fee down to a reasonable number instead of bowing to pressure from inpatient united fans, they deserve credit.

De Jongs dribbling is unreal for a cm!! His touches in tight spaces aswell are insane. Can’t wait to watch him play at old Trafford next season!!

Oh yeah, there are signs that this is likely to be a done deal, but Romano already got burned by expressing his confidence in the Sancho deal in 2020, so he seems to have swung over to the other end now. He's not like this when reporting on other deals (such as the Manor Solomon and and Merih Demiral ones before this).

Getting him in and keeping him fit will do wonders for us. I don't think people understand how much our midfielders and full backs are responsible for our slow tempo.

In terms of need, I think a right back and another cm should be seen as priority. Our lack of depth in midfield has cost us as much as our lack of quality. We need another midfielder who has decent on ball capabilities( of course one who has the tools to partner FDJ). Chelsea were able to still play good football despite Kante's injury because of their depth in midfield. We won leagues due to having Butt Keane and Scholes, whilst Arsenal struggled anytime Viera went down. It's a key position for us and having depth in key positions can be what separates great teams from simply good or average teams.

Chelsea fell off the pace this season once Reece James got hurt, since in their 343 the wing backs are really important in the attack. Pool losing Van Dijk made them look like a completely different team, now they've signed Upemacano to cover that as the geggenpress requires huge pressure from the middle which other defenders didn't have the quality to replicate.

I’m trying to remember which saga got furthest without happening. I remember Morata looked all but done before signing Lukaku out the blue
that one was wild. I remember Real asked for silly money, but still everybody thought it'd happen sooner or later. Morata even dyed his hair red I think. Then, out of the blue, "nah, we'll sign the big guy instead"

Lukaku to Chelsea and Morata to us looked totally done, the hair dyed red was just the icing on the cake. Had to shave it all off before signing for Chelsea

Fullbacks are the ones who get the most space and time on the ball, we all saw teams sit off AWB and make him be the one who initiated the offense, which was painful. Shaw was great before his injury but we’ve never seen the same industry going forward or in defending; the way he always backs off his man when defending hurts us greatly.

When the defense is set and we start a move in our half, it’s the FBs and the DM that have to find space and find a pass to unlock the defense. We struggle badly at this part of the game compared to other top teams, who pass it around the back with ease.

If we had two top FBs and a top DM who can see a pass, I think it would go a longer way towards improving us than more attackers.

I actually think Shaw is good at this. In fact in our 2020/2021 season, Shaw being able to pass, dribble and move the ball forward was one of the main reasons we had a decent season thag year.

Rangnick really has a lot to answer for in regard to Shaw imo. AWB on the other hand, I really hoped he would grow offensively, but he might simply not have it in him. However, he's a much better player than Dalot. We do need a right back.

Have you seen Shaw for England? He’s just backs off his man every time. He can pass okay, but he’s not in the league of a Liverpool, City or Real fb.

Looks like things haven't changed. Murtough just using his media pals to big him up and say how great he is. /Twatmode
To be fair it's quite hard resisting the charm of that immaculate smile of his isn't it.
Might as well drop the charade and embrace the warm touch of our lord and savior John m and rename Cafe to murtough Cafe.
I'm not paid by the way.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

Most people seem to think that Rangnick dropped Shaw, but he really didn't. Shaw was extremely unlucky with injury and illness pretty much the entire time Rangnick was here. First he was recovering from the concussion (after getting two in short succession), he played a couple of games then missed a match through suspension and suffered a hamstring injury, came back from that and started almost every match in February, caught Covid, came back for one match and then got the leg injury and had to have surgery to get the metal bolts removed so missed the rest of the season.

The only time he was actually available he was clearly Rangnick's first choice.

Yep. Telles only played so much because Shaw wasn't available and Dalot couldn't play LB as he was starting RB.

Yeah we definitely need another midfielder. I'm worried we'll call it a day after wrapping FDJ up and focus on signing a new CB or attacker.

Really hope we go for Kouadio Kone. Links have died down but he looks like an absolute baller with quite an unusual profile in that he has good defensive numbers while also being a pretty elite dribbler in midfield. Might need a slightly better passer as FDJ's midfield partner but his passing is already solid and he's only turned 21.

Koeman was on a Spanish TV tonight and stated that only a few days ago, Frenkie told him that he wants to stay at barca. I’m surprised by that, I would have thought Frenkie would have made his peace with moving to United weeks ago.

How did it work out for the best? It literally couldn't have gone any worse for both us and Griezmann

He knows how to romance the ball, takes good care of it too but he isn't the best at switching plays, long diagonals passes aren't his bit, we would need another CM who is great at breaking up plays and good at long diagonal balls into the wingers early.

That we didn't sign him. Not sure he would have done great here to be honest. Didnt exactly excel at barca either.

Interesting little hints, a lot of the journos are gravitating to the same initial fee and addons. The negative journo updates have fallen off a cliff, infact I don't think anyone reliable is now posting that it might not happen? Classic signs of a deal. I'd be shocked if this isn't announced this week.
