Except Zuckerberg isn’t the only successful person to drop out of college or even ‘high school’Saying that "height is not that important for CB" then using Cannavaro as example. It's like young people pointing out that Mark Zuckerberg was a college dropped out, and say that finishing college isn't that important to have successful career.
What fault? His size? Its been shown in 2 videos already how he handled Nunez and Haaland. People are just trolling in this thread now.People find a fault with literally every player we're interested in and then pick at that fault relentlessly
4 of his 38 matches a season, though. Plenty of other games where his pace and ability to play on the ball will be much more usefulWhile I agree to a certain extent, he will have a tough job on hand dealing with the pace and power of Haaland and Nunez if he plays as CB.
Until he’s getting towered by Calvert-Lewin for a late Everton equaliser at OT.Saying that "height is not that important for CB" then using Cannavaro as example. true. Although I'd still smack my kid (if I have one) if he uses that excuse. It's a real life example, but what's the odd?Except Zuckerberg isn’t the only successful person to drop out of college or even ‘high school’
Yeh. Although we've seen that kind of scene many times with Lindelof, so maybe we should get used to itUntil he’s getting towered by Calvert-Lewin for a late Everton equaliser at OT.
I agree. De Jong and Malacia I feel would be OK after an adaption phase. But for a CB I wouldn't want a short CB in the Premier League who could struggle most weeks with the height and physicality of many of the strikers.Has to be as a DM surely. I remember Ten Hag’s quotes about Pep underestimating the physicality of the PL in his first season. It wouldn’t make sense for him to then go and sign a 5 foot 9 centre back.

Having 1b of talent doesn’t mean Fernandinho grows a few inches to head a set play awayYes when you have 1b of talent out there and have 95% of the ball every game I dare say it works.
Also worth noting that Zuckerberg didn't drop out of some shit college that anyone can get into, either.Saying that "height is not that important for CB" then using Cannavaro as example. What was itIt wasn’t a quote at all.
True, bro. Although he finally got his (honorary) degree at the end, without attending classes. Yehh, with enough success, everything is justified in the end. Also worth noting that Zuckerberg didn't drop out of some shit college that anyone can get into, either.
It was just a report by journalist. No quote at all. What was it
This seems pretty quotey to me?It was just a report by journalist. No quote at all.
Ten Hag said: “Only once in his career has Pep made a mistake – in his first year at Manchester City when he completely underestimated the power and speed of the Premier League. He realised that you can't play the kind of football he loves without having a couple of physically strong athletes – and so he brought them in. So he's not a stubborn coach.Yes, he is stubborn in his philosophy, but not in the execution. And that makes him the best. Nobody will ever forget Guardiola. He has won so many trophies for a start – but it is mainly about how his teams play. Guardiola only wants to win games with beautiful football, just like his teacher Johan Cruyff. And what makes him stand out is that he is proving his quality as a top coach in Spain, Germany and now England.”
They got to 100 points with Fernandinho as a CB.Has to be as a DM surely. I remember Ten Hag’s quotes about Pep underestimating the physicality of the PL in his first season. It wouldn’t make sense for him to then go and sign a 5 foot 9 centre back.
Why?Martinez has become the #1 transfer target for me. I'll be gutted if we don't land him.
I’m not saying it can’t work, Ten Hag has probably forgotten more about coaching than anyone in this thread will ever know. It’s just surprising, I mean look at this video at 0:03 seconds, the famously too-short-for-the-premier-league Daley Blind towers over him! They got to 100 points with Fernandinho as a CB.
I think he’ll work with Maguire you know. Don’t you think?CB isn't high on my want list of new players but if ETH wants him maybe he's vital to what ETH wants to do
Maguire is likely done for now though
Ohh so what he said is ‘’couple of physically strong athletes’’. There is no reason why wouldn’t he play Martinez as centre back since he will be paired with a strong athlete like Maguire or Varane. In addition, Ronaldo is also considered as couple of physically strong athletes. Don’t get your hope mate, there is a reason why we are linked with this guy now right after Timber’s deal is death. This seems pretty quotey to me?

It’s a strange one. Lots of back passes and just getting rid of the ball. I can’t think of anyone but Vidic who just completely broke up play and hacked the feck out of attackers. I still think if we signed him he would be a massive upgrade in midfield. Despite his aerial duels won I wouldn’t want him in defence.I’m not saying it can’t work, Ten Hag has probably forgotten more about coaching than anyone in this thread will ever know. In a way it’s promising though. It means a total revamp in style of play. There’s no way we get away with him at centre back without dominating the ball in the opponents half, a high line etc. Also means the end of Maguire surely?
By all accounts he seems to like Maguire. The thing about Harry is he’s very good at taking the ball out above all so maybe that’s the attribute that might save him here.I’m not saying it can’t work, Ten Hag has probably forgotten more about coaching than anyone in this thread will ever know. I want him just because of the cnuts comment at the end nowGood analysis. Same height as fabio cannavaro. Lower center of gravity will help him. Ajax nickname amongst his teammates is "the butcher". Sign him up.
It was more this bit for me: “he completely underestimated the power and speed of the Premier League”. The fact that we’ve been in for Timber and now Martinez shows you that Ten Hag isn’t bothered by their height so he must have some sort of work around, which like I said before may involve playing him in midfield. I’m interested to see how he makes it work though, given that he’s raised those concerns in the past.Ohh so what he said is ‘’couple of physically strong athletes’’. Which drives me nuts with Maguire already. I don’t really see us signing a DM and a centre back given that our budget is reportedly quite small and we’ve yet to be linked to one. Maybe this is our De Jong partner after all? It’s a strange one. Lots of back passes and just getting rid of the ball. Edit - Jaap Stam as well.
Agree with all of that. It’s going to be a radical change, if he comes in and does actually play centre back then there’ll be no half arsing things. We have to play a certain way.By all accounts he seems to like Maguire. The thing about Harry is he’s very good at taking the ball out above all so maybe that’s the attribute that might save him here.
I just think if Ten Hag is intent on pushing us forward then recoveries from balls over the top becomes more of a danger than crosses into the box since he’ll be expecting us to not to be camped in our own half.
What we might see is something from dead balls but then maybe Scott comes in to make up for the height difference and negate that somewhat?
The Dutch lad we signed seems to have a great engine to get up and down, Timber and Martinez seem to have pace to get back while being able to push the ball forward. It just screams to me that we are going on the front foot and Ten Hag is legislating for that. Thing is, if it doesn’t work then we are disjoined with a 5’10 CB under pressure from direct balls.
It’s something that can’t barely work and we get away with it. It’s either going to be a huge success or not imo
I have no life so I watch a lot of European football. Martinez isn’t world class but he is a relentless tackler. He is kind of Kante but not quite as good. However he is in his prime and could still get better with a more talented squad. It was more this bit for me: “he completely underestimated the power and speed of the Premier League”. Power and speed has nothing to do with height. Aggression is more relevant to power and speed than height, which lot of short players can have or tends to have. So I still don't get how you come out in a conclusion using that quote that either Timber or Martinez wouldn't play as CB but instead may be involved playing in midfield??It was more this bit for me: “he completely underestimated the power and speed of the Premier League”. The fact that we’ve been in for Timber and now Martinez shows you that Ten Hag isn’t bothered by their height so he must have some sort of work around, which like I said before may involve playing him in midfield. His name popped up when Timber talks broke down. Doubt he's being signed for CDM.i'd sign him as a CDM personally.
We can get the best of his passing, his interceptions and his fight - but not lack height where we need it.
I suspect he would be signed to play next to FDJ in midfield.
It also matters where you drop out of. Bill Gates and Zuckerberg dropped out of Harvard. Not the unkown college near my home.true. Although I'd still smack my kid (if I have one) if he uses that excuse. It's a real life example, but what's the odd?
I believe he can help us at either DM or CB. I'm not at all sold on Maguire or Varane's ability to stay healthy. I think we bring him in and he helps tremendously either in place of those 2 or partnering FDJ in front of them. Maybe even in a back 3.Why?
I like him, and clearly it seems so does Ten Hag. But I'm not seeing him as a make or break signing.
Its the same with the players already at the club too. Our fans seem to think Liverpool & Man City have somehow assembled a group of players who are all flawless.People find a fault with literally every player we're interested in and then pick at that fault relentlessly
I think with the lack of height he would suit playing in midfield better, however do feel there is some truth in Erik not rating him in that area of the field.i'd sign him as a CDM personally.
