I don’t think not bringing in a striker is what’s done it (he’s a vain fecker who’d probably prefer better service to competition) but moreover not brining in anyone at all, and mostly looking at young Erdervise players whilst our not particulalry glamorous matinee signing drags on and on…. It’s a cnuts move if he knew he was gonna leave and waited until now. No one would’ve blamed him if he’d said bye at the end of the season, but waiting until it’s still early enough to spook our targets but late enough to make it hard to find a replacement (especially after several previous leaks about him becoming impatient with progress) does look like he’s pulled the rip chord when he thinks the ship is sinking.

He wants CL, sure, but I reckon he’d stay if he felt we had a chance of competing for the league - however daft that sounded at any point! - or winning some cups…. The further this window goes on, the more it looks like we’re settling for another frustrating scrap.

It might be best for the long term, but it’s shitty timing in the short term… I know everyone likes to pretend the long game is all that matters, but the short is just as important. We wouldn’t be in half the shit we are if we’d taken our last managerial appointment or the January window more seriously. We fecked the short term then, and it’s costing our long game now.

Also, we have literally no strikers. Both the rapists have fecked us.
100% agreed. I'm surprised by some fans (even the intelligent ones) just lap it up those obvious United PR leaks. Ronaldo was (partly) worried about United fans backlash when decided to not move to City (and get obvious trophies while playing for one of greatest manager in history). It doesn't make sense to ruin it now for a petty "playing in CL" and "CL goals".

He can feck off. We could do without this headache when we're already bare bones up front. If he loves the club so much he could've just seen out one more year of a two-year contract. If CL is so important to him he should've thought about that beforehand and put a clause in his contract. Hopefully we get rid even if it makes us weaker in the short term, the thought of seeing him play for us again doesn't sit well with me.

Ronaldo has screwed us over here big time! Reckon if we knew this at the end of the season we’d have gone all out on Nunez.
Liverpool on the back of a successful season and us having one of the worst ever in modern football?

I doubt we would have won that one unless we offered bonkers wages which Nunez isn't really worth.

Its a dick move without a doubt if Ronaldo has only now informed us he'd be off

I hope we sell him early. Squad harmony is important and all he does is cause chaos.

In your list of departure, only Greenwood is the real loss. Pogba can contribute less and less over last two seasons. All the others almost never play.
I disagree that Greenwood is the only loss. Even if they weren’t all regular starters, most of these players need replacing, on top of upgrading on what we already have in midfield and defence. Some, but not all, could be replaced by youth players. So no, it’s not looking rosy so far, especially if Ronaldo leaves as he will need replacing as well.

The timing of this is terrible. Why wait until literally a month before kick off and less than a week before pre season.. this won’t be a new development, he would of known the minute we didn’t get champions league.

maybe he knows something we don’t. Maybe the lack of players coming in has done it for him. Can’t see him playing the europa league. He will be off.

The glazers ownership is really starting to feel like it’s taking hold. It’s taken a while but the club was so huge and successful it was always going to. The rot is setting in.

I really hope it can be turned around.

He ruined last season and now he's about to destroy this one. What a legend. Changed the whole way we played to accommodate his way of playing for him to go missing for 7 months. The players that Ole improved lost their momentum once he got sacked for trying to accommodate his tap-ins.

No Ronaldo or Pogba in this squad is probably just what it needs in a weird way. Individual brands greater than the power of a combative squad is the last thing we need.

The timing could be a strong indication about Ronaldo assessing what the team would do. There's been no meaningful signings and the same individuals who threw away last season are still in the starting 11.

I can understand Ronaldo's skepticism If this is truly the case because as it stands United are a worse team compared to last season with the departures.

At this stage of his career with all he's already won and all the records he's set if he's crying like this then truly feck him and the responsible ones at the club for having zero replacement in mind for him. This window has been nothing but a joke. Moyes summer window MK2.

3 things I guess:
  1. You're creating a strawman argument. That's not "my" logic at all, but you know that.
  2. You're using correlation/causation wrongly here, because it's fair in this case to correlate the two things. Literally the only two real things you can change at a football club is your personnel and what you tell them to do. You can argue what we told the players/coached them to do until you're blue in the face, but the facts are we did change the personnel, so we can infer whatever we like from that.
  3. I'm absolutely NOT saying that Ronaldo made us worse, ironically. He's a world class number 9. I'm just replying to an earlier post basically suggesting possible REASONS for why we became worse. I don't -KNOW- the reasons, so we can all just guess/make up our own rationale for them as fans. I think there's a lot of things that went wrong, personally. But one thing I think is fair to say is that our players have never looked less of a team than they did last season. Whatever people might say about Solskaer (and I think it was absolutely the right decision to sack him), at least in previous seasons he looked like he had everyone on the same page. It's only post-signing Ronaldo that the real questions of his methods and standards began to appear, and I can imagine that lowered morale considerably. Who knows. Rashford in particular looked like a ghost.
We had 3 different managers last season compared to the one prior. Ole tried implementing new tactics last season and failed miserably. Then there's the fact that there are multiple outgoings and incomings apart from Ronaldo. We also played in empty stadiums that favoured our tactics and both Chelsea and Liverpool were uniquely dogshit that season.

You dont know what a straw man is and you also seem to be clueless on what's meant with correlation =/= causation. It means that you cannot infer Ronaldo is the cause of us placing lower on the table because he isn't the only variable. It'd be equally silly to say Dan James leaving caused our season to go shit (and ironically his departure was literally the turning point. Go look at the fixtures if you dont believe me). It's not a straw man, it's meant to illustrate how flawed your "logic" is.

Using the fact that we placed second the season prior to make the point Ronaldo made us worse is moronic.

Oh shit. He is our player and he is one of the best in the world. Letting him go will be step backwards.

If he wants to go go, let him go. Oh shit.

I was really happy when he came back, even got my toddler to say Rowandoooo.
But after this season, every attack having to end with him, months with no goals, the arguing..
Put any United level stricker up front and he's produce at least the same goals as Ronaldo. Maybe not as posh but surely as effective.

Is he still here? The breeze is obviously blowing in the other directio. So long CR7, here’s hoping that when we meet again you play like you did last year

We was in for Nunez before Liverpool was though and could of got him if we wanted him. don’t think we took it serious enough because we had Ronaldo and we only really needed a back up striker. Ronaldo should of let us know as soon as the season finished but I think in his defence he was waiting to see who we’d sign and I think he’s fed up with the board because there not ambitious enough.

Who lost their momentum? Rashford? Still that's not enough to excuse the inability to control the ball or make an effort. Maguire and AWB we knew already they are overpaid and not really good. Martial was atrocious even from the season before.

Just because correlation =/= causation and there were many variables between 20/21 and 21/22 seasons, it doesn’t mean one of the variables could be more important than the others. Given teams having to change their play style to support Ronaldo’s strength and also given his “big” personality in the dressing room, its easy to say he was one of the biggest if not the biggest variable. If we had gone from 2nd to winning the league, I’m sure Ronaldo would have gotten the most plaudits (in terms of the changed variables) for his influence. So I suppose its fair to put some blame on his influence for us going from 2nd to 6th and being absolutely dysfunctional on the pitch and, by the sounds of it, in the dressing room.

Under the guise of an unrelated matter, the club should ask Ronaldo how much it would it cost to buy a player as good as he is. They should then be within their rights to use this value as his definition of an “acceptable offer”.

Sorry but this is stupid. We let Liverpool get Nunez, because of one more season of 37, in February 38 yrs Ronaldo??
Right....
I'm sure the fact Liverpool are much better than us and therefore were more attractive to play for and had fewer positions of need so could throw more money at it weren't part of the problem as well.

Is there no chance we can do a swap deal for Lewandowski. Or would he also need CL football. I’d be inclined to hit Madrid up also for a trade with Benzema. Don’t ask, don’t get

I remember Ruud score bulk of goals every season but less and less from the other players. We were a bit static. Fergie got Saha from Fulham, immediately the whole team became a dynamic force in attack. Ruud asked to leave every season, finally he left and no one in manutd regretted it at all. It’s pity Saha couldn’t keep fit. But it just shows centralized the play to one to score is not a good approach.

they literally just signed Haaland, we have him under contract and can decide who to sell to, and there probably is some genuine love for United from him (albeit dwarfed by his love of himself). He won’t go to City
So Ronaldo Haaland swap is what you're saying?

Aye, it’s pretty clear what’s happened. My guess is the club made him assurances in May, he took it on board and sat and waited. Fast forward six weeks and Ronaldo has cottoned on to the fact the people running the club are useless cnuts and now wants out.

I think they will sit with ronaldo, calm him down and get more of a move on in the transfers window. With a forward too.

You want him the be the most important variable, because that would confirm the opinion you hold. But it's an arbitrary assumption. Why is that a bigger difference maker than Ole trying to implementing new tactics and his successor being woefully out of his depth? Or the empty stadiums benefitting our fragile mentally weak players? Or 2 of our rivals being really shit?

If you accept that there are multiple variables you cannot discern Ronaldo was the difference maker just from looking at the table.

That doesn't mean there isnt an issue with Ronnie, just that that specific argument is silly.
