How many of those players have they brought in yet?
It’s funny because Chelsea fans have been just as panicky and annoyed at how slowly our window is going. I’ve seen those exact posts from Chelsea fans but about other clubs like Spurs and City.

United have signed more players than us so far. Not that I think any of this matters or a big deal but it’s funny to see someone use Chelsea’s window so far as a stick to beat United with

How convenient that this link has magically appeared out of nowhere! It’s almost like it was pulled out of a Catalan ass or something!

A bit of a coincidence it’s Chelsea they’ve used and they’re currently the club running round trying to hijack other clubs deals. Stinks of Barca using the Spanish press to try and force Utd into coughing up that £17m they owe de Jong in wages. Also even if it is true Chelsea can kiss goodbye to signing Ronaldo if they pull this shit.
We only tried to hijack the Raphinha deal and that hasn’t worked. Don’t think we’ve tried to gazump any other deals.

They were linked about a week ago with a single line in a report. Nothing more and it was watching in case our negotiations break down.

Now it's full blown interest, miraculously as Barca want a little more fixed fee.

Come to think of it, who are the sources that broke it? I've never heard of them... Romano just did his usual copy and paste though

They can guarantee him CL football for this season. Why would you sign a 5-year contract with such short term thinking? Not to mention that United will always be the bigger club, ETH is not the only attraction vs Chelsea.
I think though the guarantee of Champions League football is sadly higher for Chelsea than us based on consistency over the last 5 seasons. Plus they also won it in 2020/21. I hope it is not a contributing factor when he makes a decision on who he joins. Hopefully, this is all part of a negotiation tactic by Barcelona and Chelsea's interest is just media bluster.

Chelsea bringing in De Ligt, Sterling, De Jong and Ronaldo. Wow. That's what a club with ambition looks like, and they hardly have more resources than United. Glazers are slowly but surely killing the club.
Go away with your moaning and negativity.

They haven’t signed any of those players.

Could actually be an interesting point that Chelsea won't do this as there is no way on earth they get Ronaldo if they do

We’re not going to keep an unhappy Cristiano at the club. If Chelsea are the only club in for him(which it seems) he going to them. Regardless of what happens with FDJ. Chelsea certainly aren’t messing around. They’re clearly going all in for the league this season.

This whole saga has been a waste of everybody’s time except the media who again are spinning tales to sell papers and get viewers. The lad doesn’t want to come to United. He has made that clear several times. He chose Barca over us when he left Ajax knowing what the financial situation was at Barca. The Chelsea story is just more crap to add to the pot of bollocks. Forget about him and move on.

It's actually not a laughable opinion. Juve are long term admirers of Jorginho but they won't pay up. The only possibility is some kind of swap deal like for players like De ligt. Luckily, he wants Bayern.

Yup that's true...

I wouldn't be surprised to see United agree a fee publicly soon and raise their fixed as Barca demanded

I thought this myth about Champions League football being the one true draw any club can have was debunked.

By us no less, with Pogba and Ibra.

Compare this to how the news that we were 'trying' to hijack the Nunez deal was received on here

So if we end up signing him you'll recognize that Murtough and co know what they're doing and that you just like whining online?
Of course I will but we have to sign him first. Feck me is it whinging when what I exactly feared would happen is actually happening? Fans can hide their heads in the sand and meme the Di Maria comparison or tell us to relax every time a source dares admit Barca don’t actually need to sell him to us since everybody is a Barca finance expert these days. Never mind hand waving every single report saying De Jong doesn’t want to come.
Here we are, 2 days from going to Thailand with a reserve left back and a player on a free on the plane and only being able to sell one player.
I’m seeing the same with Martinez. Oh he’ll come to United because of Ten Hag but if it doesn’t end up applying to De Jong then would it to Martinez? Why would Arsenal negotiate with Ajax without being told Martinez would want to come? Isn’t that the logic applied to us and Barca?

We have ZERO room in our midfield for a player of De John’s profile at the moment. You guys need to calm down.

This is Barca putting pressure in United to pay what they want you to pay.
Your club is Woodward on steroids. It semes like smart decisions are out the Chelsea window

Oh I’m sure they’ll just be so devastated when they’re able to plug in de Jong and Sterling into their starting 11. If Chelsea do indeed hijack the move and sign a CB then they’ve had a much better window than us.

I'm fairly sure that will happen. I'll actually be shocked if we actually do pay €65+20
As I said, I'm sure we did the same with Bruno I think it was... Reports came out that Barca I think it was had bid, and within 24 hours we'd signed him.

It's a popular and very effective tactic used in transfers. Clubs used to use United all the time to force buying clubs to pay up

Regardless of how serious Chelsea's interest is, this is why you always use your scout network to have alternative targets. No individual target can ever be fully guaranteed of being successfully achieved, yet we seem to have gone into this summer with an attitude of "ETH wants this player so we get them", and there is no backup plan.
This 100%. What is th backup plan here if the FDJ transfer doesn't work out for whatever reason?

I don’t really get why people are irritated by United taking time to do this deal. It’s obviously expensive, pretty complicated and the player himself would ideally like to stay where he is. And then there’s the wage deferral issues FDJ clearly has with Barca. Those aren’t our responsibility and tbh I’d be disappointed to see us solve a problem for Barca in that way. If he can’t get it sorted with them or isn’t willing to walk away without getting the monies owed to him then it wouldn’t bother me to see us walk away. FDJ’s wages, from a previous period, which he willingly agreed to defer, are between he and Barca. If that means he stays or goes somewhere else, so be it.
Yeah, I agree with all that. I wouldn’t blame United for not being able to get this deal over the line. But I would blame the club if we aren’t ready to immediately sign alternative midfielders if/when we pull the plug on De Jong.

I'm sorry but are you actually a United fan? It's hard to tell from the drivel your posting in here, and your Ronaldo fanboying (sorry for using that word mods, I hate it, but it's necessary here) in that thread too. Give it a rest mate.

Yea right. So are they going to pay FDJ's deferred salary of €18M too on top of whatever stupid amount Barca are demanding? At the same time when they have a bigger need for a defender and a striker? Good luck to them. It'll show the world that they are now even bigger mugs than we are.

This Romero guy is starting to look like Barca's mouthpiece, pushing all kinds of stupid narratives.

I'm pretty sure on this one he's just got his info from another source... revivo or something like that. Some Spanish source I've never heard of

Although I think the Chelsea links are little more than planted rumours, but I don’t agree that we have zero room for player like De Jong. Both Jorginho and Kante are entering their final year of the contracts and both have shown signs of decline. Waiting until next summer to replace at least one of them would be really stupid.

I think we will sign a midfielder this summer and one of them will sign an extension, probably Kante. Jorginho to either be sold this summer or leave for free next summer.

Expected this at some point tbh. I'm amazed we've seemingly had a free run at him up until this point.

But what I'm choosing to believe is that FDJ and his agent have cooked up this story so that when he signs for United, it'll put to bed all the rumours about not wanting us. That's what I'm choosing to believe

Relax man, we might not end up getting him but this is unnecessary panic. Just make informed judgements and accept that even good decision making can lead to bad outcomes.

FdJ: We know Barca have financial issues and cannot keep his wages on the book. We know they have positions of higher priority where they need to make signings (CB, RW, CF etc.) and FdJ isn't strictly necessary for them. We also know that basically every single club (including Chelsea) that can afford him have no interest in him. We know how Barca leaks to journos work, we do that all the time.

Martinez: The only contest is between us / Arsenal. We pay better than them, neither has CL football and we have Ten Hag. This one should basically be in the bag. Again yeah it might not happen and Arsenal might decide to give him a feckton of money and he might chose them but the most likely scenario is that he'll sign for us.

Everyone whined that Eriksen won't come until FdJ signs. What happened there? It was clearly BS.

Chill and enjoy the ride.

The people that think it's all bogus are starting to sound more delusional than the folk that think it's dead in the water. In any case we'll know soon, Chelsea are actually competent and will complete this transfer this week if they're serious.
