Barca are at no risk of us pulling out.

FDJ though... could be Winston Bogarde all over again
Well, No risk for Barce!?
If we walk away and FDJ refuse to pay cut.
Berca cannot register their new signing to play league and it need to pay a big salary to FDJ and new signing for their sitting fee.
Also, I don't think their potential player will join this summer in this situation.

imagine you get to play for your dream club under your idol, and your idol, after trying to let you down gently, basically has to resort to "eff off" to try and get you to leave.

don't worry, Frenkie. We're here for you.

Manchester United are prepared to play the long game in their £72 million pursuit of Frenkie de Jong even if they have not secured a deal for the Barcelona midfielder by the time the new Premier League season starts.

Barcelona and United have reached a formal agreement for De Jong with the Catalan giants due to receive an initial fee of £63.6 million with a further £8.5m in add-ons.

United agreed to increase the guaranteed sum by an additional £8.4m and reduce the add-ons and it remains to be seen if Barcelona now use that higher upfront fee to help partly cover the cost of the £17m they owe De Jong in deferred wages.

De Jong’s preference would be stay at the Nou Camp but the player is coming under growing pressure to accept a move.

Barcelona are considering leaving De Jong at home when they fly off to Miami this weekend for the start of their pre-season tour.

A deal cannot happen until the wage issue is resolved but Barcelona need De Jong off their books in order to get the greenlight from La Liga to be able to register their new signings, Raphinha, Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie.

United are hoping the situation will be resolved as swiftly as possible but they are prepared to sit tight.

If the current salary deadlock proves insurmountable between De Jong and Barcelona, United are likely to be forced to pursue other targets but manager Erik ten Hag - who considers his former Ajax player to be integral to his plans - believes the current wait will be worth it.

Old Trafford sources say they would have not have got this far down the line if they did not believe De Jong was prepared to join them, despite claims in Spain that the player is not interested in a move.

That makes no sense then. You have to send your books in for audit for FFP. Basically, it's wild-ass guess then.

Don't you wish every tax/audit department did that then?
It's not that it makes sense or not. It is already clearly explained by the Spanish league itself.

All clubs wishing to participate in LFP competitions must join (Art. 12) and submit to the Committee their individual and consolidated annual accounts, and their audit reports, no later than November 30 following the end of each season (Art. 13), in addition to their interim financial statements as of December 31 (Art. 14), all this apart from other complementary documentation of an economic-financial nature (Art. 15),

Ducker confirms they are thinking about not taking FDJ on tour and reiterates we got the green light to continue negotiations.

This post is absurd. It’s like you literally haven’t read this thread in the last few pages. Painfully obvious what is going on and yet people still refuse to understand.
I haven’t, to be honest, but all I know is he’d much rather stay where he is.

Clearly pissed a few teenagers off who just wanna get the big names in without thinking about how it affects the team overall. Players who see us as the only other option besides what they really want, or come here just for the money, have not worked out in the past, certainly post 2013. Not once.

Naturally I'd want him in as early as possible, but I honestly don't care if he comes in late or we end up not getting him. He's going to impact us in the long run, probably not as much in the short term anyway.

I have a feeling Iqbal will get a chance with the first team, so best of luck Barca, call us when you're ready.

United must be confident to wait, this risks becoming exactly like that Fabregas saga where we waited all summer and he rejected us in mid-August.

At least United are getting other deals progressed on the side. Martinez, Malacia, Eriksen.

No offence but you may be misreading the situation.

Obvious posturing from us to get Barca to sort their issues with FDJ. They need him out to sign their players.
It's a dangerous game though. We could end up with McFred if they do a Dembele and we don't sign a plan B cos we think we are getting de Jong.

Cesc rejected us / Moyes repeatedly all summer long.

Barca can't force him out, if he refuses to leave there is sweet fa they can do.

Holy moly that’s cold. What a bunch of cnuts.
They're spinning the yarn for the fans to accept his exit with 'we can't sign/register any of these sexy signings if he stays'.

It's cold but it might move things along the way they're doing everything to make a potential stay as uncomfortable as possible for Frenkie

Although I certainly wish we had more targets currently in line, as our squad is seriously light on quality, I can’t see we’re doing much wrong on this one. Hopefully we get him in, but can’t do anything more than hold our nerve at the moment.
