Everyone goes on about his height which is a potential problem but what about his speed? Everyone banged on and on and on about our CB's being too slow and we cant play a high line because of them and yada yada yada. Now its all of a sudden fine?
His speed is fine? If you have good defensive awareness and positioning ability you don't really need a lot of raw pace to keep up. He did fine against Haaland and Nunez, so I don't see the issue?

I see this trotted out a lot. I didn’t watch him against Nunez but I did see them against Dortmund, and Haaland missed 3 big chances. It’s classic results based analysis, if Haaland converted them no one would be saying things like this.

Looking at the videos he’s not slow by any means

Don't know much about him but from what I've read he's quick enough that we won't be talking about his pace.

People also said that Maguires lack of pace wouldn't be a problem, or Lukaku's shit first touch or AWB being poor on the ball.

With the way Bailly has showed up so far in pre-season, Martinez and Bailly as starters?

Until Bailly gets injured again

Sounds good to me!

And the Man Utd defence was shite last years with 2 6+ feet defenders while Martinez rocked big time every single match! Man Utd are lucky/blessed to have signed a giant like Martinez (due to ten Hag). Mark the word.
See him as an at the least 3x better player then maguire with a 30m+ pound reduction ánd probably a rest value after 3 years.
You get back on these midgety worries.
Of course he might be fine and I’m not worried. I was merely saying that 5-9 is very small for a CB in response to a post that gave instructions on how to measure 3 inches as if that somehow made a difference. 5-9 is “only” 3 inches less than six foot but most CBs are 6-3 these days.

But, hey, if he can out-jump everyone then his height is irrelevant.

How were any of those chances down to Martinez lacking pace? As far as I recall Timber was the one struggling to keep up and stay on him?

So for one game? Or until he has a lapse in concentration and does something stupid…which is also one game.
Looking like martinez and Maguire/lindelof. Bailly and Varane are just unreliable at the minute. They’ll probably play about 10 games between them this season.

Lindelof and Maguire at CB. Mate, they were dreadful. Laird at RB did OK.
Damn. I imagined it was them two. Neither of them should play there, I do think they both could play one side of a double pivot with a Fred or someone else next to them.

Is he really that slow?

I don’t think so, seems like he’d excel in a Ten Hag system, just need a disciplined CM who would cover him if he pushes forward.

His point is that if Haaland were on they would have lost and people wouldn’t claim that he did fine. It’s tough though, in my opinion a tough defense or defender throws attackers off enough that they miss chances they normally would make.

Like above I don’t think so. Bially will play a big part this season. Especially if we go there at the back ever.
What’s with the weird bag? He looks like a cleaner
Holds his thermos and another drink- probably nutritional

Are the Ajax fans as sensitive as the Everton fans? Remember when they started to hate Moyes because of him wanting former players.

Between him and Varane we might have the most handsome potential CB partnership in the league
