Is this your preference? Pretty shocking not to see Jorginho because he seems to be favourable midfield choice last season.

I just don't feel it would be the best for your players looking at that Sterling plays on the right instead of left, while Mount plays on the left wing. Feels like it would have been better with Mount as no 10 or midfield 3, Sterling as second striker like in 2018 World Cup playing as second striker next to Kane in 352 formation.

So what's their potential main line up going to be?
There won't be a main lineup next season with the fixtures a lot of rotation but out of who's here atm with everyone fit this would be my preference.

Mendy

James
Koulibaly
Silva/Colwill
Chilwell

2 of Jorginho/Kova/Kante depending on opponents
1 of Mount/Gallagher

CHO/Ziyech
Havertz
Sterling

Are you confident with Havertz in that no 9 role? Or do you expect new no 9 signing to replace Lukaku?

Jorginho of course our main stay last season but fit kova kante midfield dynamic as well.

Our front three don't work like traditional front three with wide forwards. Our front three often stay close to overload in midfield to support two 6 s allows us to create space for wingbacks.

Our wingbacks often act as wide forwards to attack the space behind.

Jorginho last season wasn't all that great to be honest. The drop in performance from the second half of 20/21 season was very noticeable. He wasn't necessarily bad but nowhere near as good as the season before. For my money, Kovacic had a much better season and deserves to start ahead of Jorginho.

Kante on the other hand is very much a favorite of Tuchel so while he may not be the prime Kante anymore, he's still going to play a lot of games when he's not injured.

In any case, I think there will be a healthy amount of rotation between all three with maybe Gallagher as their understudy.

For me yes, even when he doesn't play that well in himself him being there facilities good-great team performances (case in point Real Madrid away).

We should for sure have a more natural striker in the squad to mix things up a bit when needed (hopefully Broja is that) but I think a marquee 9 will just cause another systematic headache we don't need.

Alright then. Thanks for the answers @Dancfc @Rajiztar @Rnd898

But after looking at your lineup, I wouldn't even dare to bet that you will be challenging Liverpool and City for the league title next season. The line-up seems to be still missing something imo. Feels like more first XI quality signings is necessary.

He certainly did a lot better than Lukaku did. We play much better with a fluid forward line. Lukaku was never a good fit for us and I said it when he signed.

Our core strength is having goals all over the pitch. If Werner stays I can imagine Havertz dropping off in to the space provided by Sterling and Werner breaking lines with running and movement.

Better than last season Lukaku is not enough though. Lukaku was signed to solve that no 9 issue to improve your squad to challenge City and Liverpool for league title but failed. I feels like two new CBs to replace Rudiger and Christensen, backup wingback, and striker on top of your Sterling signing is the requirement to have squad to compete with City and Liverpool next season.

It depends how much wingbacks stay injury free. We can certainly add ten more points in our total. We can see how much city and liverpool maintain their form.

And if we sign kounde or kimpembe then I can say we could use wingers as wing backs depends on opponents. Tuchel shaping up the team very well in his own image. We can see.

I personally think chelsea can win the title and we are not much inferior to city or liverpool.

Pep seemed to have Chelsea figured out last season. Liverpool in one of games though were very close.

This,I think, depends entirely on who the player is. If Haaland had wanted to come here… then you would go for a 9. With Lukaku here Gavertz was the obvious best choice. So I wouldn’t want us to buy just to buy.

On Havertz…. Others may disagree, but I just don’t see him as a 10, or a wide playmaker…. He wants to play second striker BUT almost no one uses a second striker anymore. So if I were him I would be developing my body and my game, thankful that a team Chelsea’s level is allowing him to grow into the position he probably needs to play when it’s all said and done.

I feel like Jorginho is the anti-Lukaku. Almost after a few months, there were all sorts of write ups about his slight build and constant links back to Italy. It would have been very easy for him to just go with the narrative and run back to what he knew, especially with Sarri at Juve.

But he insisted and now has a Champions League and Euro win and was very high on the awards lists very recently.

He will pass his Napoli appearance numbers with Chelsea at the start of the season and I think he has been a great signing in the end. He showed big Romulu how it’s done.

I don’t know if it’s Pep per se. City simply have greater quality and depth to throw at everyone else. They are an extremely well run organization from top to bottom. If you’ve had a series of tough fixtures, or nagging injuries here and there, chances are you are going to be lining up against them outmatched in at least 4 positions, even if you’re among the best teams.

That’s why the whole thing changes in the latter stages of the Champions league: they will come up against a side that has been able to rest and prep a full starting lineup, so that advantage disappears.

If it was Pep “figuring people out”then he would have take the trophy at least once by now when he’s on even footing, right?

Also think Azpi is mad if he goes to Barcelona. He should be enjoying his well-earned legends status at Chelsea instead of going to a club where they will humiliate him in a years time when they don’t want to honor his contract and fancy pushing him out.

Was looking forward to seeing how our fringe players would do in our first pre season game. Gallagher looked decent and Callum Hudson-Odoi was anonymous. Mount just scored a cracker but not much to shout about or gleamed from this game.

Good work out for boys. I don't know why we are after ake when we have ampadu. Ampadu looks in good touch and fit. Hope he gets his chance to play for chelsea this season. Gallagher looked okay through ball for Kai was superb.

Ake is left footed, can play as the left CB in a three, left back in a 4 and wing back on the left. Ampadu can't do any of those things really as a right footer. He's almost the mirror image on the right!

Now having serious talks with psg for kimpembe indicated as you said why we went after ake left footed left sided center back who can also play lb.

Gallagher & Mount looked up to speed and sharp immediately which was nice to see. No rust at all.

Conor is going to be a huge player for us this season I feel.

Could have been a genuine fan but could have also been some kind of social media trap. He chose to play it safe. Most people would have done the same thing.

Tuchel loved the way ampadu played today.Encouraging words about him.

Tuchel on ampadu "I think the position in the back three is a good position for him. He played plenty of forward passes, was very active. I think he played a good game"

Think we should give Ampadu a chance this season. Own goal ... Best keep that in pre season!

I think we'll try go back 4 more this season as we'll try 4 3 3, we have the 3 up top to press for 90 mins now. Another reason why we loaned Lukaku, will sell Ziyech probably.

It’s a bit petty I guess but nothing more than that.

Raheem was just leaving the City shirt so his mate Jorginho could sign it, like he did for the Dortmund shirt with Pulisic on the back.

Wonder if Sterling would have signed a Madrid shirt? His dream club?

Could have been a trap I guess but he did play for the club for eleven years so don’t see the issue signing it tbh. City are cnuts though so fair enough.

pre season is all about fitness anyway, results dont matter. Nice to see some good performances though, and Mount score a lovely goal. Always take pre season with a pinch of salt in the sense that apart from the senior squad guys who'll obviously stay, its risky getting attached to performances as we tend to loan them out when they return home haha.

I didn't watch the game but CHO seems to have been a bit meh. But could be rustiness Big year for him, if he doesn't step up significantly, he will be gone. His best games always seem to be against lesser sides in Europe, like a Qarabag for example, or Carabao cup lower league teams. I like CHO tbh, but never saw the "wow" with him, but this year i really hope he kicks on.

I remember in Lampard's full season watching the Burnley game at home and his understanding with Reece on the right was telephahic, it genuinely looked like they had eyes in the back of their heads when it came to eachother.

I'm not sure how many times they've played together on that side since but it must be in single figures which is really frustrating.

I remember when he stepped in for Red Bull vs Spurs in the Champions League in a back 3 and he was amazing. Weird how some players just don't get the rub of the green.

Ampadu is another one of those players who has come to a crossroads and the club needs to either stick or twist. I prefer to keep him. So talented. He’s very good a couple of positions and he’s a pretty experienced now - nearly 100 professional games and 36 caps for Wales.
