One thing to come out of this saga is just how much of a joker Graham Hunter is.

Watching his embarrassing emotional meltdown on talksport in defence of Barcelona, its noticeable that he tries to obscure what Barcelona's position is by denying that they won't pay his deferred wages but saying its a 'regular negotiation'.

It's been reported that they offered 3.5m out of the 17m which means that he's not necessarily lying, just sweeping up for them the fact they want to only pay part over an extended payment schedule.
They agreed a deal with us pretty easily because they knew it fecked over FDJ entirely trying to get his wages and then allegedly offer him 1/5 of the wages by claiming "well the contract doesn't say anything about actually owing wages". Absolute scumbag move from Barca.

The quick agreement with us, almost in monkey paw fashion, was the catalyst needed by Barca to take substantial power from FDJ and make this a saga. He can now either drastically cut wages again and lock in a permanent wage loss, come to MUFC and not get a full payout from Barca, or refuse everything and either get a few mins from the bench and ruin his Netherlands chances.

Brutal...but someone's got to flinch first. I'm betting it will be FDJ and he'll take a small payout.

Isn't there a law in Spain where you can't pay an ex employee less than 50% you paid them before? If that's the case they need to pay him 50 mil a year, ain't happening in my opinion.

What I'm glad about is both Bartomeu and Laporta are actually Madrid undercover agents.
considering Frenkie agreed to take a 10m pay cut for 2020, from 13m to 3m, it’s clearly bollocks.
It came from one source, and was always Barca propaganda nonsense. Something that never made any sense in a World where a 60% pay cut could still mean 200k /week

They are doing exactly what I said I would do if I wanted to be a cnuty club and get rid, take him on tour, play him in “second team”, and play him out of position.
Pretend you have no problem keeping him, pretend you desperately want to keep him, all the while showing him how shit his season will be if he stays.
Show him the Mascherano role, but a bench version is his Barça future.
He’ll accept a smaller payout I think.

I fully agree and I think because Barca will have to stay "on message" for legal reasons, should this latest report about Xavi telling him to go be accurate. i think the actual message will be that he's no longer a XI starter and will only get bench minutes. It won't be an actual statement saying "your wages are too big, the club wants you gone, you're out of my squad". Should it ever end up in a court, you just don't need that ammo.

Smaller payout is likely the end of this saga, which unfortunately also makes me think this goes to deadline day

The thing is its fine for them to do this now in pre-season but once the season starts if its like the first half of last season and he's sitting on the bench I doubt the supporters will care for the messing about. They'll want the best players on the pitch if its going to get them points and closer to Madrid. And that would put the pressure on the manager and higher ups.

i only think this will be seen as a gamble from Barca's side if they can't get the others firing. If he benches De Jong because its about the "right team dynamic" i genuinely doubt Barca fans care. They'll blame him for stealing a wage before questioning his bench spot.

There's only one United!
McGinn gets into my XI of most overrated players of the past 5-6 years
I agree with you but McGinn is a player who gets away with lots of fouls and sometimes dominated midfield with his hard tackles.
Most of the inferior teams in the PL have a McGinn or two and also the top teams have a few too.

Unfortunately our team gets dominated by such players and we lose our rhythm and that's one of the reasons we lose/draw with them.

The refs don't help us at all and players such as McGinn should get yellow/red cards much faster but it never happens.

It's not just about Barca being unable to afford benching such an expensive player. It's the fact that they will not be able to register their new players for this season. That's a double whammy Barca cannot afford. Now they're both playing chicken. It will probably end in a compromise for both sides to meet a settlement somewhere in between. Not the full amount, but close enough for both sides to declare victory.

If he isn't willing to leave after hearing this, we might as well give up. Xavi has degraded him to a back up CB whilst they are still chasing Kounde. What's the plan for Frenkie? 4th choice CB?

If they're successful on the pitch yeah. If they're barely top 4 they cant blame 1 player who isnt even playing when he wants to be

well I think that explains why they took him on tour. I mean that’s a shitty way to treat a player, if people don’t now realise this is is all a game of chicken, I don’t know what proves it.

just a way to try and frighten FdJ into taking a lower settlement, now if Barca are still unable to register new players due to wages it’s a real stand off

Relegated to a backup CB. You'd think by now de Jong would have enough respect for himself to want out

I keep thinking Barca will find some loophole to the registering problems

These two deserve each other. He can come here where he will be the main man, work with his former coach that knows best how to play him, and be loved by the fans. Instead he wants stay in Barcelona where he is treated like absolute shit, work with a clueless manager, and the fans will eventually turn on him as well. Really pathetic.

I guess we will find out how much Frenkie loves football soon.

It’s midfield or beach.

I've always liked him at cb in possession. Problem is, defensively...

He plays like Timber there which just makes me believe more in Timber being able to play the de Jong role in midfield
