There isn’t a calm day in charge for Xavi at Barcelona. After Frenkie de Jong’s fine game for Holland against Belgium, he said: “Here in the national team I have a position that suits me better.”

While at Barcelona he plays as an interior midfielder, De Jong plays as a pivote with the Netherlands. “I like being the first player to receive the ball from the defenders,” he said.
"Xavi sends his regards"

"Please feck off or i'll play you at CB when you come off the bench"
He doesn't have the balls to say Frenkie is no longer wanted.
"For me he's a fundamental footballer" => Buzzword to confuse people to make it seem like he understand football better than most when it doesn't mean anything. Similar to Moyes when he said "uno, dos, tres, cuatro times".

He wants his 17m!!!
imagine hosting MUFC board members at your club office, your director confirms the agreement with MUFC because of "fair play" requirements, and then saying this. How much coke do you reckon Laporta does in a day?

Frenkie ain’t getting his money. But he can get a pay cut on a cb salary with assist bonuses

I hope we never deal with Barca again after this.

These comments from Xavi and Laporta are a sign we`ll hear new developments this week. Suspect it`ll be made clear to the player in private again that he has to leave.
My guess now is it ends up with FDJ agreeing to a lower compensation package than 17m then he comes to Utd. The way Barcelona have symbolically scapegoated him must be having a mental toll on the lad

Can't wait until Frenkie officially leaves and El Chiringuito reporting it as if he had been kidnaped by alien.

Or....laporta is just lying, again.
It wouldn't really make sense to admit an accepted offer without explaining the reason he's not sold yet as well. They'd either have to admit agreeing a deal for a player who has no intention to leave or that they can't (or don't want to) pony up his payment

So, they are yet to talk to him and know what he wants, despite there being an 80million offer on the table, which all reliable journos on both sides confirmed as accepted...

If anything, this is a clear indication that the transfer is not "dead" as some may claim. It would appear that those 17million are truly a hurdle... Reeks of incompetence on the side for FDJ's agent.

Remember when folks kept saying FDJ had all the power.....yeah "Please feck off or i'll play you at CB when you come off the bench" and "please feck off and stop asking for money we don't owe you" kinda proves my point. They are going to make his life a misery.

They are paying him a huge salary and are already in trouble with FFP. They are going to these extremes precisely because they can't afford to not sell him. They are just trying to strongarm him into wanting out so it weakens his position in negotiating the $17m. I'm sure a compromise will be found eventually.

FDJ does have the power here, it’s just that he might not be shameless enough to use it. Barca can make a fool of him but if FDJ decided to ignore that and keep picking up the cash Barca couldn’t do a thing about it. I do suspect that he will leave and take a lesser payoff but that would be because he decided to accept it, not because Barca had some sort of master stroke.
Almost wish I didn’t have a vested interest in this one because another part of me would find it absolutely hilarious if Barca couldn’t register their new players

Laporta: What say Frenkie, if you score and assist 30 goals in every season next 4 years then I will give you back 17m.
Xavi: Frenkie is my second choice CB. I like him in that position.

FDJ has already criticised Xavi for not playing him like LVG does. Xavi's response today is to say he's now a CB. So FDJ sitting on the bench, playing 20 mins every few weeks as a CB....BUT picking up his full wage is FDJ having power?
