So it seems like Barcelona have officially communicated to him to make a clear choice to either take a pay cut or leave. Before it was informal discussions not official ones. Like I said this week is make or break
He would be an absolute mug to take those new conditions with Barcelona, and they look terrible for forcing him into this position, whilst also making lots of new signings. Utter dickweeds.

He should take it as a huge compliment that we're basically making him our number one priority for the Summer window. His situation at Barcelona is untenable. They're not suddenly going to increase his contract in the future and may even force him to reduce it again the next Summer. The deal and situation that he thought he had at Barcelona is over, it's all changed.

I'm 35. I work in what everyone classifies as "IT" despite not working in IT, but my job is so unbelievably boring that it's not worth explaining to folk. I have four kids which means that TV time consists of Moana on repeat and outdoor time involves standing around in a park watching someone go down a slide three million fecking times.

I have to spend most of my day nodding and maintaining a minimal level of attentiveness whenever my missus talks about some mundane shite she had an argument with someone about, and watch drab horror and sci-fi movies just to ensure I can get my hole three times a week and not be forced to sleep on the couch with the dog.

If my life was a colour it would be the most tepid grey you've ever seen. Muppet Transfer Season is all some of us have. Don't be evil. Don't take it away from us.

I have no idea how this will turn out but it seems like everyone is losing their shit over 2 sentences in the Atlantic article that are nothing more than the author's opinion of what FDJ thinks.

"Viewed from the Barcelona dressing room, a move to Manchester United is not that attractive, even if United were to agree to meet all the financial commitments in De Jong’s Barca contract."

"There has been plenty of turbulence at Old Trafford in recent years and especially this summer — De Jong is likely to share Cristiano Ronaldo’s view on playing in the Europa League this season, with no guarantee of a return to the Champions League any time soon."

Is this supposed to be deep insight? To me it's just more speculative bullshit.

We are Cavani and Greenwood down on this time last year with no replacements. We are Pogba, Matic and Lingard down in midfield with only Eriksen brought in.

It looks as though we are going to be heavily reliant on Fred, McTominay and Martial.

This is why posters are getting cranky.
You forgot Pereira! We're without Pereira!

Edit: I forgot Mata! How could I forget Mata!?!

Aaah so Chelsea are guaranteed CL football then are they? Assuming they're actually in for him and it's not journalistic BS

We are light on attackers for sure but we needed a smaller squad anyway. IMO if we sign anyone in midfield, we should then sell someone (and loan Garner out). Numbers wise it's fine, you have Bruno, Eriksen, Fred, McTominay, Donny, Garner, Hannibal, zidane, etc. You always want a slot for a few apps to young talents, and Garner can definitely get more game time. If we sign Frenkie, then Garner has to be loaned and Donny has to go IMO.

Attackers I would say is our big need as we don't even have the base numbers there, but Frenkie is key for starting 11 quality and system.

Yup, it’s a strange phenomenon. You could have been a season ticket holder for 40 years but if 10 of your posts haven’t been liked then you don’t know shit.
I think its a good system personally its what a modern forum needs in the age of social media - its not meant to dictate your knowledge or at least i haven't felt that way its just an indication that your account is on trial to gradually see if you will be a good fit.

The only annoyance is the first few likes before having your post auto approved really, the forum can move so fast that it can discourage participation as your post could be a page behind by the time it does, which may even be the intention as far as i know i mean the newbies exist for a reason right. That place is actually a good way to get the likes too, the scouts funnily enough, tend to be "scouting" that place.

I don’t understand how you can not have a differing opinion on our signings and now the club is run without getting stick, but you can absolute rip into the players in a match day thread and it’s deemed ok?
I want this club turned around more than anyone. We have a great manager I believe in place but we are still massively short!

Alabama but always Wales in my heart
Or option 3 - he refuses to adjust his contract and refuses to leave and challenges them to leave him out of the team which they won't do in which case he still plays and gets his full pay. Funny how they always leave that one out...
Well because it is not true. The reason they are insisting on a pay cut or departure is because they cannot register their new signings to play in La Liga with his salary on the books. They are hardly going to not register Lewa and Raphina and so if push comes to shove they won't register Frenkie so yes he will be left out of the team.

It's very much a Scottish/Irish phrase.

We are a very romantic people.
Oh, without a doubt. Especially with one another. Just last week I saw a Rangers fan and Celtic fan loving one another in the middle of street. Lots of rolling around and neck cuddling going on...

I didn't wanna say anything at first, but I couldn't have been the only one who found it odd that mummy needs to watch a bunch of monsters to get in the mood with you..
It means that when his missus read this post while watching a sci-fi movie, Pidgy won't get any until 2026.

We need another counter-article to infect the posters with their much-needed dose of Muppetitis F.
No need a counter article. That article in the athletic is complete BS. "Even if united pays frenkie's dues with barca, he would still not be keen on joining them". We are talking about 17 fecking million euros here and not 17 thousands. Who in stable mind will say I don't care about my 17m, I just want CL. If that was so then why all this saga between him and barca? Let go those millions and stay happily there, no?

Totall BS article.

fecking sky is now putting YouTubers on their channel? What an absolute shitshow of a media organisation
united stand has 1.4 million subscribers, it’s Very popular. I like fan channels and I like the fact fans have a say over some reporter who doesn’t even support the club. Beats ABU media like talk sport spouting shite about us constantly.

It's not like he has two new job offers and he's giving up an opportunity to earn more money to take a role he's happier doing, so that analogy doesn't really work. He's already deferred a big chunk of previous year's wages due to covid etc. It's been widely reported that the deferred wages and unpaid bonus payments amount to 17m. Now they want him to forgo those deferred wages and his future contractually agreed wages and agree to a new contract with a 40-50% wage reduction. It makes no sense for him to do that especially when they're bringing in shiny new toys all the time. Also this love talk is completely overblown. It's a bargaining position imo. If he was going to take a paycut he would have already done so.
It makes sense if he loves the club so much. I'm not saying he does, I think that's a bit of nonsense. He probably just prefers to stay there.

But if he really does love the club and really wants to stay, it's completely possible for him to. He'll still come out a ridiculously rich man.

I'm not saying its a no lose situation but its nothing like a bloke dropping from 30k to 20k for the love of his office.

It’s a footballers career, it could be over in 5 years. There’s a reason nearly every footballer, even who shows love for a club, such as Rio, Keane, Beckham and Rooney, went to great lengths to ensure they got paid the going rate for their talent.
Frenkie’s deal now might be his last big one, who knows. Signing a deal now putting himself well below the going rate for his entire prime would be daft as feck, especially as the club he loves could have shown him some love back simply by not signing Kesse, and using that wage to pay Frenkie. They clearly give zero shits about him and his sacrifice during corona.

There is a huge difference to how Frenkie’s life will look between 35-70+ if he earns what Barca want, approx 19m after tax for his entire deal, or the money he originally signed for or would have received from PsG or from United now, approx 39m after tax.

He can keep his place in Barcelona on the second deal, and spend his entire post football career there, maybe from as young as 33 as many central midfielders stop then.
Will there be a huge difference? What will be different?

He's already incredibly rich, a multi millionaire. On the new deal he'll earn an obscene sum. He'll earn more millions after Barcelona. If he invests wisely those millions will earn him more millions whilst barely doing anything in retirement.

So how will that extra £20 million really make a difference to his life.

You're thinking as a guy who earns regular money and is considering dropping his salary by 10k to keep a job.

I'm not saying he should take the new deal by the way. Totally upto him isn't it.

But if he leaves he likely won't get the deferred wages and he maybe should think himself slightly lucky to get such a ridiculous wage in the first place.

If he really wants to stay he should. As you say, life/career can be short. Considering that I find it crazy to let money control your decisions when you've already got more money than any rational human can spend.

Barca has given ultimatum to Frenkie and his agent now has to make moves. That athletic article is a paid hit job by his agent to put pressure on united before negotiation on personal terms begin between him and united.
