Yep pretty much. It’s kind of ironic in a way that his ego which is one of his biggest assets and what helped him become the player he is today is ultimately what could be his demise. It was purely an ego trip that drove him to leave Madrid. He thought he was Cristiano Ronaldo and the team he played for didn’t really matter and he’d have exactly the same success anywhere. He was gravely mistaken. I’m almost certain he would’ve bagged at least a couple more CLs and BDORs had he stayed put.
For all the plaudits Mendes rightly gets it’s hard not to say Ronaldo has been horrendously advised in recent years. It’s been one bad decision after another since he decided to fall out with Madrid.

Cristiano is a víctim of his own ego. He believes too good for United and the Europa League but no relevant Champions League team want him. Whether he stays at United or goes to a small team he already embarrassed himself.

The thing is he can actually score 10-15 goals just in the Europa league this year with some of the opponents we might be facing. I understand he wants to cement the UCL record goal scorer but it’s not like he won’t be playing football. He will still pull away from Messi in total goals scored record.

We’ve somewhat of a feel good factor heading into the season & finally look like we are being coached in a direction. Ronaldo would have done better to help facilitate any departure by not waiting until July to come out with this news! We all know about his ego from his first trip around Manchester but in such a crucial moment for the club this is bordering on unforgivable for me.

I can understand him wanting out but this should/could have been handled so much better. You don’t back the club into a corner in [basically] August.

If that's a deepfake, it's the best one I've seen so far. Truly frightening technology.
It's not. It's Ronaldos face super imposed on the character Homelanders face from the show "The Boys"

The relevance, is that this scene comes right after he kills a civilian for insulting him in front of the crowd.

This gives Homelander the realisation that in the eyes of the public he can do no wrong and is playing on the similar fact that Ronaldo will be cheered and given hero treatment regardless.

The market just showed him we're the only big club that wants him. Heck maybe we should even reexamine if Ronaldo isn't beneath us. Should be formally thanking us for giving him any kind of platform. The free market doesn't lie. They just thought they'd pick any CL contender and they'd come running for him.

To the fanboys still attacking people maybe grow a bone in your backs instead of your drawers. The guy doesn't want to play for us and tried to leave. Fans are well within their rights to tell him good riddance without petty accusations of prejudice.

Must have been an extremely rude awakening for him. Been offered everywhere and no-one wants to be anywhere near him. If Martial can maintain this level, he should be our starting CF moving into this season. Offers more energy, more pressing and more link-up. No chance Ronaldo would accept being an impact sub without causing issues though.

You will be hoping for Ronaldo to start after Martial does his usual thing of slacking off and acting disinterested after 2 games.

Why are we so adamant on keeping him ?

Mutually terminate his contract and let him feck off to whatever UCL club he wants to go to. Club pisses me off sometimes, we need to get with the times and not be Nostalgia FC.
It really is quite simple: we were caught off guard by his last-minute decision to leave (and it's not like we're stacked in the forward department, either). We genuinely thought he was going to stay for another year. If he had made his intentions known as soon as it became clear that we weren't going to play in the Champions League this season, giving us ample time to find a suitable replacement, I'm sure we would have let him go.

And I think we've made the right decision to try keeping him for another year. Squad depth is very important if we are to compete for trophies or top four.

We should get paid what we paid Juve and his salary of June and July considering he didnt attend the pre season training.

If Ronaldo can get his new team to pay for that, then he can leave. This letting player dominate negotiations needs to end. You have a valid contract and it needs to be mutual.

I have feeling that only Chelsea is interested and he is looking to get his contract nullified so that he can join them. Ronaldo knows we wont sell him to Chelsea under any circumstances

Honestly, Ronaldo has handled this really poorly and it pisses me off that this is a distraction at the start of the new manager’s first season.

However, one thing after reading through this thread is clear. There is personal hatred for Ronaldo on this forum. Most from new fans is my guess who didn’t support the club when he was unreal for us. Some of the comments just reflect so much hatred towards the player its absurd. Rooney didn’t get a quarter of the reaction he is getting and he was ready to go to City at a time when we were actually really good. I guess we have far too many messi fanboys on here which is weird to see in a United fanbase.

Getting pissed by his antics is a given if you're a United fan, I too am pissed (and absolutely baffled) by this situation, but I think you're right that some posters take it way too far. 1) Him being an utter asshole and 2) there are merits to him staying for another year aren't two mutually exclusive propositions.

What is this nonsense. The bolded is also what's wrong with this fanbase. Ya'll can't let go of the past. If it was Giggs who came back and did this, I'd have the same reaction to him. No one individual is bigger than the club. If you don't want to play for United, leave.
I've supported the club for 30+ years and I don't want Ronaldo here. Don't know what hatred you talking about but he's made this past few months unnecessarily difficult for the new manager, fans and the club. No player should be bigger than the club and if he didn't intend to be here he should have made that clear at the end of last season. It would've given us time to find a suitable replacement.
Instead he's fecked about wherever and let the fans and the club in limbo.

I don't care if its Jesus Christ himself. He has to go.

Big time. The worst thing is he was the wrong player for United at the wrong time too. This was all totally avoidable. If we’d left city with Ronaldo last summer I reckon we’d have had an almost free run at Haaland but we just aren’t well run. We’ve been relying on luck rather than any serious plan. It’s starting to look like we are building with the future in mind but not before we let the generational players on the up go to the competition.

Sainz claims Mendes presented Man Utd with options for Ronaldo's exit. Did he detail a single one? Cos, as far as I can see, nobody is that keen.

Ronaldo and his agent having meetings about wanting to leave like its United's problem to find him another club FFS.

When you find someone Ronnie, tell them to make a bid, and then you have something to discuss...until then shut up and get your training kit on!
Exactly this.

While I don't disagree with what Mendes is doing with Ronaldo, trying to act in his best interest...it's the cold hard fact that Ronaldo is not in demand anymore at the highest of the highest level, while being compenstated for it.

Just look at how Chicharito handled being told he's only wanted in MLS/United States. Ronaldo still might have some European experience left in him, but the days of being part of a serious CL winning team or wherever that can provide him what he wants....is very bleak. He's coming to the same realization that Chicha went through...take a look if you haven't done before.

The market just showed him we're the only big club that wants him. Heck maybe we should even reexamine if Ronaldo isn't beneath us. Should be formally thanking us for giving him any kind of platform. There's a lot of truth in both these posts. It makes me wonder whether all this drama isn't just damage control by Cristiano's camp.

Brand CR7 can't acknowledge the fact that Ronaldo is likely going to stay, not cos United forced it, but because no elite club forced United's hand with a bid too good to turn down.

So this showdown has to be staged to make it seem Ronaldo is still the world's most in demand footballer. It doesn't match his commercial profile, or self image, to acknowledge the biggest team actually interested in him is us.

They probably want the club to either loan him or let him go on a free transfer. I suspect they have an arrangement with a champions league club.

What talks? No one wants him. Do we need to convince him to stay? The only thing we should tell him is that he is expected in training the next day. That’s it. He’s a legend, the goat, whatever. He is a player and a player is never bigger or more important than the club. Simple

I think they believe they can get him to bayern if the conditions are favourable enough. Which I don't think is wrong either

Issue is those favourable enough conditions just don't make any sense for United, and I'm not sure if Cristiano himself would be willing to go as low as Bayern would need him to. Don't see Bayern willing to invest more than €15/20M in total to have him, and not just for 1 year either

Atletico Madrid stopped being a realistic possibility the moment fan backlash started to pick up - that club is not going to risk alienating its fanbase for him

Other options simply don't exist - chelsea are a direct rival and all other top clubs just don't need him

I agree. Might be the other club is willing to pay him the wages but not pay a transfer fee for an older player.

Even with that, his wages are going to be an issue. Even with big cuts surely.
Yeah but potentially less. The amount they would have paid us could be used towards him and also he has made himself to be so desperate, they can dictate his wages than the other way around

I think he would be good enough for most CL teams tbh, but they are aware of his wages and the drama he creates, hence they are negative on him. And rightly so, as he shows right now

And even then I would prefer to see a youngster start or see Rashy up top. It is about attitude and team ethics. But maybe you are right and your fanboi moment will come after some time this coming season

I don’t understand why he doesn’t see that not being in the champions league to fight it out with Messi is the price to pay for his own failure; we didn’t sign him for 400k/week to finish 6th. Yes, he scored goals and yes he was match winner on a few occasions, but if he gave us 400k/week value on the pitch we wouldn’t have finished 6th!

He and his camp conveniently seem to ignore that Ronaldo was part of the team that finished outside CL spots last year. If they have an offer from some other club, then just go. If not, stay and fulfill contract that Ronaldo has signed.

It seems that the scary reality is that no top CL club wants Ronaldo. He is not what he used to be and he will need to come to terms with this sooner or later.

Asking for contract extension and a loan is just bonkers. Obviously if th

I still believe that without Ronaldo that Ole would have done better lasts season and was a below average coach.

One thing that definitely won't happen is extending his deal then letting him go on loan for a year.
That'd be beyond ridiculous.

More than likely have to facilitate a move by waiving our request for a fee or even helping pay some of his wages.

Spent too much of the summer on two players that didn't want to be here. Real danger could be if those positions end up weaker with no reinforcements because of our unwillingness to move on early in the window.
