Honestly, Ronaldo has handled this really poorly and it pisses me off that this is a distraction at the start of the new manager’s first season.

However, one thing after reading through this thread is clear. There is personal hatred for Ronaldo on this forum. Most from new fans is my guess who didn’t support the club when he was unreal for us. Some of the comments just reflect so much hatred towards the player its absurd. Rooney didn’t get a quarter of the reaction he is getting and he was ready to go to City at a time when we were actually really good. I guess we have far too many messi fanboys on here which is weird to see in a United fanbase.
Some of those posters aren’t United fans and actually fans of other clubs or Messi fans.

Kahn said yesterday that they are not interested. So he is now refused by:
Bayern
PSG
Atletico
Chelsea
Spartak ( )

Clubs who are not real option are:
Real
Barca

It is Juve or nothing i guess. Or maybe Milan? They didn't said anything so far
You're taking the press at face value.

Which is about as sensible as believing we're after 100 players that are linked with us each window.

There is no easy solution to this, it's a mess. Ronaldo's manoeuvres have made it difficult for him to come back without undermining the manager and the club. Ronaldo's wages and decline are at odds with each other, he's not worth the money and effort that he costs. The only ways out of it are for either United or Ronaldo to take a massive loss. United giving up the transfer fee and possibly paying out part of Ronaldo's contract to get rid. Or Ronaldo taking a massive pay cut to the point where he'd be playing for maybe only 20% of his salary from before. And both of them require not only each party to take a great financial loss, but a reputational loss. It will highlight how wrong United were to buy Ronaldo last season if you're paying him to get out of the club. And it will be a massive ego dent for Ronaldo to only collect €100,000 a week somewhere, he would go from being top 5 best paid in Europe to way outside the top 50.
I cant imagine we'd be holding out for a transfer fee if he found someone who would pay him what he wants.
Best solution would be a mutual termination of contract and he can move as a free agent.
A probable issue is that out of vanity/ego he won't want to play for comparative peanuts and he won't come to terms with the fact that "peanuts" is his current level.

Mutual termination of contract and then its his problem........

Legally he’s more than entitled to buy out his contract if he so wishes.

It is a mess but I think Ronaldo doing what he has done, makes Ten Hag's job easier to drop him. He can say, you didnt want to be here, you showed it by missing pre season and now I have my tactics and team ready. Tough.

You couldn't find a suitor, I am not guaranteeing you a starting 11 place.

I dont think United should make it easy for him either, paying him off is not an option. He either leaves with a fee or stays and on the bench.
It does make it easier to drop him, but it doesn't make it any easier to avoid the circus around Ronaldo. He will be asked about Ronaldo being on the bench at the pre-match interview, post-match interview, the camera will pan to Ronaldo on the bench. Maybe Ronaldo gets petty about it. Ronaldo and Mendes are very powerful, they will undermine the team and the coach and leak any information that helps them out. The only way to hold that off is to keep winning games without him. I hope we can, but you know one bad result where they don't score, let's say they lose 1-0 to Southampton without scoring, and all the press will be "toothless United can't score without Ronaldo", irrelevant to if the team played well or not.

Not all press is the same.

Not sure about Spartak, but Oliver Kahn or the president of Atletico have gone publicly on record, and were directly quoted in said articles.
That's not exactly the same as the transfer gossip page from daily mirror.

There will no doubt be some negotiation around it, zero chance Ronaldo pays anything though. Best we can hope for is we just rip it up and nobody pays anyone anything. I'd be OK with that - its not like he has much/any value anyway and the thought of us paying him £1m every three weeks makes me want to puke.

If he does go then it means this summer we’ve wiped around £75m a year of the wage bill.

Yeah, I do get that but again United need to show they are not going to be a pushover. I get that him and Mendes are powerful and what the media will ask.

However; if we are losing 1-0 to Southampton and its 60 min, I am sure if Ronaldo is on the bench, Ten Hag will bring him on. On the other hand, if Ronaldo throws a strop, ETH will be straightforward and say Ronaldo didnt want to play.

 I seriously doubt that you're some sort of elder statesman compared to the average poster in this thread. I've been watching since ~1990 and there's plenty older than me on here. I don't hate Ronaldo, but the fondness I felt towards him has more or less totally evaporated at this stage, and I'm completely fed up with the circus surrounding him.
Oh i’m not. I’m 28, so my fondest memories are of him at United. And before you say that makes me a ronaldo for over ManUtd, please. There’s a reason why I travel to Manchester and not Madrid. I love United more than anything but this thread is shocking.

Sorry, might just be 3 times. 2008, 2009, 2022. I thought he wanted to leave in 2007 as well but cannot back that up with evidence.

Also, whether or not Martial reaches Ronaldo's numbers is irrelevant (he's done it before, though, so not sure what you mean by fooling myself, Martial is capable of scoring 20-25 a season), because him, Rashford, Fernandes and Sancho will very likely score a lot more, than last season + we've added Eriksen too. I guarantee you we will score a lot more goals this season if Ronaldo leaves / becomes just a squad player.
I view most of those as newspaper talk. He never made a secret of wanting to play for Real Madrid and Fergie knew this almost from the get go but not sure that equals actually wanting to leave

All the things United and Ferguson did for him. All that for him to just come out and publicly state in an interview that he's like a slave at United...whilst we were a top 2 team in the whole world and Real Madrid had been a laughing stock for 4-5 years by then.

The idea we would give him an extension to he can go on loan is very funny
Seems crazy , but maybe they know we are about the only club naive enough to do it.

He is basically saying I like the wages you are paying me but I don't want to play for you , so lets work out a deal where I still get the wages but I can play for someone else.

Yes, they've come out and in the case of Atletico said "not sure who made this up, no chance".

a) Rooney never ended up leaving us and gave us his best/prime years &
b) If you don’t recall the backlash he received then you probably weren’t part of the forum back then (member or not).

Rooney received a ton of backlash and to this day, some have still not forgiven him. And this is someone who stayed and have his career to United.

Why is this bellend still here. At what point are we able to terminate his contract for basically not adhering to the terms? Nobody is coming to rescue him and he's obviously in too much of a sulk to put up and shut up.

I think this sums up the situation:

That pain of showing off, clattering yourself, and trying to style it out when you're in immense pain and everyone is laughing in your face :nervous:

Some of these aggressive abusive type posts are really weird.
