That would be pretty great, but not sure how De Gea's wages match up to Ter Stegen's and if Barca would really save much that way

If I'm not mistaken they have the same wage but we would pay for Ter Stegen, so Barcelona may not save money on wage but they would make some cash.

I'm convinced, lets get the two for one deal done. De Gea and cash for De Jong and Ter Stegen. Double worded last names galore!

I was just kidding about the Chelsea part, just enjoying this thread and hysteria over FDJ. Every summer there's one classic thread about somebody possibly joining MU on the Transfer Forum that lasts for weeks and weeks and it's always entertaining.

We're going to be fine, thank you. This is my last reply since I can't post more than five a day, but it was a pleasure talking to you too.
I fully agree with the fact the muppets in this thread are going to be massively disappointed as he will not join United, I'm not disputing that fact at all.

I ain't throwing in no towel. Muppetdom awaits

Ah I just read what the other poster said. I don't get what he means about United fans turning on him and how Barca are influencing that, seems a stretch. It's all an interesting theory but there could be some truth to the actual tweet. They don't have many players other than De Jong that are considered dispensable and that could bring in a decent fee. Perhaps they would be willing to let go of Ter Stegen as he's just a GK but they could get good money for it, even if they would need to downgrade a bit.

I've been told all the way through this that the spanish sources are rubbish anyway, so probably best to take it all with a pinch of salt.

Sorry but I think you’re being deliberately obtuse here. Ter Stegen is one of the best in the world. They obviously aren’t going to sell him but are briefing this to put pressure on De Jong and influence the fan base.

It's even more rarer than that. How many Real Madrid academy talents can you name that broke into the high quality tier? Barcelona is renown for its academy, and hell despite the constant hype over every new youngster that breaks through they haven't produced a world class midfielder since Thiago, 10 years ago. Like you said, it's just simple mathematics; the best clubs in the world are the best because they buy the best talent. Not even Klopp and Pep are arrogant and narrow minded enough to believe they can just forego the market and "just develop the kids." Improving the double pivot was the most pressing issue we had in the beginning of the season, hell it's been an issue for almost 5 years, and yet we're being so lackadaisical over it. Ten Hag's arrogance and shortsightedness will come to bite him in the ass over the course of the season.
Yes.
But the bolded bit is just a speculative, unfounded conclusion, and a needlessly negative one at that.

Barcelona need him sold before La Liga starts August 13 and are now trying to push Frenkie out by putting pressure on him to act before United's fanbase turns on him.

They also briefed that they think about selling Ter Stegen because Frenkie won't leave to alienate him from the Barca fanbase. Disgusting club.
If true about Ter Stegen, how much do you think they will look for, as remember the guy has a current buy out clause for 500 million in his contract and with all the top teams in Europe already having a #1 they are happy with and the guy under contract till 2025, he can also refuse to leave and there's nothing Barca can do.

To be fair in this case Ter Stegen is the fridge. If De Gea is interested in Barcelona, United should offer to purchase Ter Stegen and De Jong.
Tbh I meant in relation to the transfer fee he would command. I wouldn’t expect it to be anywhere near FDJ price.

But yeah I’d love ter Stegen. He would suit ETH style more than de gea

I dont understand why people have so much confidence in this.

Almost every journalist, Spanish or English in the last week or 2 has reported he does NOT want to come to Manutd.

He has 2 options now.

Stay at Barca on his current wage - he has a contract and they have to keep him
Stay at Barca on lower salary - He has done this before.

United is simply not an option. If Barca pay him off, his salary will be in line with others.

I respect the muppets still engaged in this one but I'm sad to say that I'm out.
A week ago I gave up on this. Come back to see the state of the thread. One week and 200 pages later and we're still in the same position ffs.

I hope we walked away weeks ago.

Tell Barca to feck off, and when they come running back at the end of the transfer window, tell them to feck off again.

The club needs to retain some dignity and selling clubs in future need to know we won't just cave in to demands; specifically in this case where Barca is in the shit - yet somehow - thinks they hold the cards.

Now they are putting out they‘ll have to sell Ter Stegen to put pressure on Frenkie, the unbelievable goatfecking cnuts.

I must formally request the Muppet Masters to ban sport and managing@barça, among others.

Why are we allowing this bs to be posted here? It‘s not journalism, but propoganda.

It is based on the fact that he became a regular first team player under ETH and looked like one of the best midfielders on the planet. In 3 years away from Erik he has under a variety of coaches looked decent but nothing special and the fact is even without any of the salary issues that are driving this he would not be in the starting line up this season and most of the fans there wouldn't give a stuff if he left. The desire to go back to ETH is based on the not unreasonable assumption that being played in his preferred role, in a team built around him under a coach who knows how to get the best out of him would allow him to achieve his full potential. Nobody know for sure what drives Frenkie, if it is money, nice weather and tapas then perhaps he does feel like being a utility squad player at Barca is living his best life but if he is ambitious to get the most out of his career then maybe making a decision for football reasons and not lifestyle ones will lead him to the logical assumption that he is better off at Old Trafford. He will be a long time retired and will have decades to lay on the beach in Spain when that happens.
There could be many reasons for him to move, like a I doesn’t think he is good enough for the starting xi. However you read everywhere that he would choose United because of ETH, but that is just an assumption and there might be other factors that are far more important.

No close journalist to Utd has said he DOES NOT want to come. It's only originating from Spain. Telegraaf who are as reliable as they come with Dutch Players/News have doubled down on what's being said in England including the wage issue
Him staying on his current wages means Barca can't register signings which will undoubtedly cause friction
He's never taken a wage cut but a wage deferral big difference. Asking him to half his wages AND waiver the deferred salary is a massive financial commitment he's not guaranteed to accept
You simply can't conclude Utd are chasing blind alleys for a player who wants NOTHING to do with them as you're suggesting he's lying and blindsiding Ten Hag for God knows what reason or he's flat out said no but we're chasing him anyway which isn't practical at all

We've not caved to anything? We've come to an agreement on a price that we are happy to pay. It's up to Barca and FDJ to sort out their issues.

I think you're just frustrated more than anything. Just don't read everything online.

Agreed, People here keep saying we didn't brief that we're no longer interested like we usually do. If it's true that we were chasing a player all summer that doesn't even want to come I doubt we'd brief we're no longer interested, we'd look like right fools.

It's much more believable that we just leave it till the end of the window and say Barcelona and FDJ couldn't work out their wage issues.

I just hope we plan to sign a midfielder.

What demands have we caved to?

Not just in this transfer, specifically; but we always pay way over the top, and sell for way less than player value.

Obviously media speculation, and likely bull shit, (as is everything nowadays), but Barca were pining for us to increase our offer - despite them being on their arses.

Who is close journalist to Manutd? Fabrizio has always said he doesn't want to come. In the last 2 days, the Athletic, who actually have journalists who are close to United have also said he DOES NOT want to come to United.

What we need to get straight is, the defered salary is to be paid in the next 2 years via his salary, so he cannot leave, if he does he gives that money up.

So if he wants to stay at Barca, he either carries on the current salary or reduces it. Either road leads to him staying.

We don't know he has specifically told Hen Hag he wants to come.

You're missing the main point of this saga. He agreed to the lower salary for two years with the understanding it would be paid(deferred) to the latter years of his contract. That time is now. Hence the 17m debate.
He does not have to leave and accept a lower salary. He's under contract and by staying, will be owed the 17m due now, plus the remaining years of his contract.
I think Barca's position is obvious in that they want him out. Besides the financial issue with them selling their TV rights(levers), wage restructuring and the reported issue of registering the new players they bought, Xavi has him playing at CB. He's not a CB. Clearly this is an attempt to unsettle the player and make him feel unwanted.

You can't discount the obvious which is we would not be persisting with this saga if we didn't have assurances from the player and the club that a deal is possible. Ignore the BS merchants that are riding this saga for clicks. It's a money making game and they play it all too well.

We have a fairly good idea that Timber told United he didn't want to come and within a few days we went for Martinez instead. Yet here we are, still chasing Frenkie. Why do you think that is?

100% this will happen, everyone on caf will have a go at the club whilst they are the ones who actually have this belief that he is coming. There has actually been no indication from anyone that he wants to come to United.
