Man Sainz (Mendes’ alleged mouthpiece) is saying that Ronaldo to Atletico has a 70% chance of happening.

If he thinks he’s getting a gig for one of the 4/5 teams that can win it, he really is completely deluded.
He and his agent are hoping he will be appealing to those clubs if they can sucker our club into loaning him whilst we pay a majority of the wages still

He needs to win the Champions League to have a chance to close the Balón d'or gap, which is his obsession. That's why he's throwing himself at Bayern.

Merely playing at a UCL team isn't going to do anything for him. He's done winning golden boots. His only chance to close the gap is to somehow win another UCL.
The only way Ronaldo is going to win the balon d’or again is by winning the CL, and Real, City, Liverpool, Barca, Bayern, PSG have all said no.

the only team I see is Chelsea or Atheleti and I don’t think they have a chance at all to win the CL or their respective league

He’ll have to live with the fact that this is one title messi will always have over him

it sums it up that the Atletico Madrid fans seem to have got more momentum behind their protest about a transfer rumour than us about the glazers.
Yes, so many other fanbases put our soft touch one to shame really. I wish we had the same ruthlessness as atletico's fanbase but you know full well a majority of our fambase will be singing ronaldo's name if he is forced to stay and scores for us or comes back to our ground as just a "special guest" before a match in the future when he has retired.

If we want him out, we release him from his contract and he can negotiate his 400k a week with somebody else. Any idea that has us paying for part, or all, of his salary while he plays in the CL elsewhere is a no-go.
Why should we want him out? We may be open to him leaving if a good transfer offer arrives, but other than that what is the point? Our wage bill has decreased by a million a week after Pogba, Cavani, Lingard, Mata, Matic, Henderson, Pereira and also a couple other young players all left (permanently or on loan), and we will likely sell a few more defenders - there is no pressing need for us to get rid of Ronaldo at all costs. If he stays, of course he will be involved as we only have Martial as an alternative CF anyway

I know. And the explains why he's publically obsecrating for any of them to sign him despite their public rejections. As embarrassing as that may be to anyone else, his balón dor obsession means he'll do anything to win another, including beseeching for one of the top dogs to sign him.

As you said, in all likelihood, he's going to have to live with it.

Well he can always win the World Cup later this year. That will bring him in terms of greatness above Messi and Maradona. Still below Pele though who has 3 world cups

There is no pressing 'need' for us, but there's also no point throwing 20M away for his wages next year just to keep him mostly on the bench if he doesn't fit Ten Hag's style and intensity.

It's kind of a 'cut your nose to spite your face' for me.

We wont terminate his contract.. we wouldnt want him to go to a PL club..
He can bring in an offer... take a wage cut at his new club to help them with the transfer fee if that is an issue, and leave..
I think most fans would be pretty happy to see him go..

This whole thing is hilarious.. the way clubs are coming out distancing themselves from a move is really funny.
We would love him at any rival club. He will bring that place down as well.

How likely is that, though? He has never scored a knockout goal in his entire world cup career, and given that pretty much his only contribution is his goals, it doesn't bode well. He's never won a world cup knockout tie, nevermind making a deep run, and he's a worse version of himself.

I don't see it.

That's what I said?
Whoops! Not sure how that got posted.

De Gea wanted to leave in the faxgate summer of 2015, when Real Madrid tried to sign him. United didn’t seem that bothered about his leaving back then.

The absurd contract extension and pay rise was not given to him until 2019, by when his form had deteriorated and the club was under absolutely no pressure at all.

You are right to call the club out for giving him that ridiculous pay rise, but it was hardly done out if a fear that he would leave. There have been plenty of other examples of this happening; Jones for example.

That’s the problem isn’t it. If it’s one of those 4/5 clubs, then they can more than afford to pay him or buy him.

But none of them do.

I'm afraid there is no ways he can win the B d'or again, that train left the station 2 years ago.
Any team that signs him up will automatically make it a lot harder for themselves to win anything.

That depends on whether he’s happy to stick around as a bench/rotational option. If EtH reckons there’s a real danger that he won’t be, he’ll be better out of the way.

I’m a lot more confident that with Woodward out of the way, decisions like this will be left to the football people. In that case I’m happy to back whatever they decide; if EtH really does want him to stay then that’s fine by me.

If he is willing to accept mutual termination with no compensation than I think we should seriously consider it. Another big wage bill of the roster, don't have the circus, don't have to deal with the ego or the Inevitable disruption when he doesn't play every week.

The only issue is it leaving us light in the forward areas, but that is an issue that either gets dealt with this summer or next when if he stays he will leave on a free most likely anyway, so we either he pay his massive wages for a season to probably be a bit part player, only to the have to shell out next summer on a forward or we get rid now and bite the bullet and buy the forward this summer.

No chance anyone will actually pay a transfer fee for him, but they may be tempted to take him on a free, its a win win for all parties in my eyes.

I’m surprised at people being surprised Ronaldo doesn’t want to stay at a club with no CL. I could have sworn this was a generally accepted thing when we moved off him and it was also a discussion point here throughout the season.

All the pearl clutching and “I used to think of him as, but now” is a bit surprising to me.
We all accept that Ronaldo would not want to stay at a club with no CL football. I think most fans accept that.

What the issue is, if you want CL footy, get a club to pay, find a club and leave, fans would be accepting.

When you dont turn up to pre season, its different, I dont care if the player wants to stay or leave, you do not go on strike.

I agree to a point, but we did pay £20 Million for him. So if he wants to leave that much pay the buy out Claus. Simple.

There’s no proof he actually went on strike though. I know this has beaten to death on here but him having personal issues and wanting to leave aren’t mutually exclusive.

All tier 1 Journalists indicated that he did in fact have personal problems.

And his behaviour at Juve last season suggests we should give him the benefit of doubt with that at least.

What behaviour at Juve?

I mean there are many reports showing he was actually training. I am not going to say he didn't have family issues, but no journalist has said those issues are resolved.

As soon as the team is back, he is back, so if you put it together, he didn't want to go on pre season tour.

Finally, last season when he had the family tragedy, he was back playing football days later.

My memory is hazy but in 2015 he didn't just want to leave, we had literally agreed a transfer for him that fell through because of faxgate.

We then gave him a new contract shortly after, which he ran down amid a flurry of transfer speculation linking him to PSG, Real etc. When his form was at its worst and he was probably less likely to get the sort of move he was after, we gave him an insane contract to make sure he didn't leave on a bosman at the end of the season.

I think we pretty much agree that the De Gea saga (both in 2015 and 2019) are examples of the club being terribly run, but I think the full history of events makes it even more stark.

We essentially agreed a transfer, let it fall through, rewarded the player with a lucrative new contract that he threatened to run down when he wanted to leave again, and we responded by offering him an even more insane contract which he signed when it finally made sense for him to sign it, because he could no longer command that sort of salary from any other logically run club because of his form.

I'm sorry to labour the point because I think we basically agree, but my central point is that if you take any of Ronaldo, faxgate, Pogba, De Gea's insane contract etc etc in isolation, you can chalk it up to a mistake, or the other side. When it happens so routinely to a club, you have to conclude that we're just incompetently run.

A lot of this rests on conjecture though. I mean:

so if you put it together

Not that it matters much, but he was a semi finalist in 2006.

I know we'd save on wages if we release him but I'd rather let the greasy prick rot in the reserves or buy himself out.

I meant he completed the entire pre-season with them and even played the first game of the season despite wanting to leave.

And yeah you’re right but could be a coincidence. No way of knowing for sure.

And grief affects people differently. Could be his family don’t want to return to Manchester too.

I’m not even saying you’re completing wrong here but there’s no way of knowing for sure so we should just give the benefit of doubt as the club and reporters also maintain he was out for personal reasons.

I would approach this one pragmatic. He clearly wants out, but it seems he got no realistic alternatives and we won't leave him for free. So I would say we make good use of him this season, but do not build the team or any kind of system around him. If (big IF) Martial and our other forwards play the way EtH wants them to do, then put Ronaldo on the bench. In case one gets injured or we need to adopt our style bring him on. Good option to have from the bench.

But stop that circus. This story and the de Jong thing make us once again look like absolute prats once again.

His United Legacy is already wrecked. 'Legends' don't ordinarily split the fanbase.
It has to be clear to anyone except maybe those with ronnie shower wall posters that he doesn't give two shits about team legacy, only personal stats matter to him.

At the end of the day we dont know, we can only speculate.

The one thing we do know is that he is constantly putting briefs that he wants to leave.

We get that he wants to leave, yet Manutd have not had 1 offer. Until we get an offer and reject it, he has to play for United and train as a professional.

That was our own stupid fault in all honesty, he won't buy himself out nor will anyone pay a fee for him, nor can we command much of a fee for a 37 year old with 1 yearly on his contract anyway.

So weeither pay 15millon odd in wages for the next season or we save 15million and get rid.

I don’t think he even wants that. Obviously ideally he doesn’t, but I’m pretty certain that this is mostly about getting an extra 6-8 games in the CL so he can add another 4-6 goals to his tally. It’s literally the best option for him to protect his personal legacy.

Then if we qualify for the CL next year, he’d come back to us and do the same.
And this is something that has to be unacceptable…. We don’t need a 39 year striker to come back and we pay 300+k a week!!

I am sure in next 12 months, we will find a good striker for long run!!

How stupid someone must be, who starts burning alle his bridges with his club, because he wand CL football, but has no idea, which club would buy him, or would even take him for free.
