Do we think this will lead to a significant uptick in attendance at the club level and will it be sustainable?

Ultimately I think it will be up to women to get out there to the stadiums.
I think club level is much harder to grow than international. You have to have people really growing up supporting clubs, but people tend to support their nation in any sport and that makes it easier for the international side to grow.

Feels like rugby, where the international game is far bigger than the club level.

I’m happy for them and it’ll do great for young girls watching and future of the sport.

Strange that one can’t mention the quality of it though. I’ll look forward to it improving in the future
You're comparing it to men's football.

Men's football has existed at a competetive level for over a 100 years, womens football is barely out of its infant stage in terms of development. Fast-forward 100 years and we'll be having a very different conversation.

Better put out flyers and let everyone know since it’s always been sung ironically upto this point.

Stupid song aside, that was an awful game of football for a final, terrible touches, terrible passing, awful defending from both teams.

Well done to the winning team but it seems miles off a meaningful sport, the crowd seem more carnival and there for a good time more than supporting a nation too, it was a strange watch.
Enjoy your Russian gas, Helga

Using this success to shit on the mens team and players is going to get old(and fecking obnoxious) very quickly.

And I say that as someone who is not an England fan.

What a great final in every way. Happy for the ladies but especially the sport itself. This will elevate women's football.

I agree with the sentiment but women's football has been about for thirty years or so, in hundred years the gap will be the same.

I'm hoping they do a mixed league at some point tbh, feel that would be awesome to watch.

I understand what @Zlatan 7 is saying but I guess it’s just about not directly comparing it to the men’s game because it’s very different.

Essentially two different games in many ways and for a number of reasons.

Just try and take it for what it is and enjoy it.
I’m not comparing both, not purposely anyway, I watched a semi final and I watched the final out of curiosity, I enjoyed but had no care in the winner, it just lacked a bit of bite.

Wish I didn’t bother commenting now tbh

That's because this is what everyone harps on about every time women play, and it's been going on for decades and it's tedious as feck.

And it's made even galling by the fact that it's improved spectacularly in the last 20 years. It's so far beyond what it once was, it's hard to even put it into words. It's been an incredible transformation to watch, and the way it's changed is one of the triumphs of women's sport. So you might be able to appreciate that it gets annoying when there's still people falling over themselves to point out how crap it supposedly is.

Yep it’s pretty pathetic

The good thing is it identifies the children who have been allowed to stay up late for this very special occasion!

If this doesn't make the women's game take off in England, then nothing will... except a world cup win next year too?

The replies you got are to be expected. You shouldn’t let them discourage you. Especially when you are right!

I’m not falling over myself to say it’s shit. It’s a bloody European final so bound to have people watching it who don’t usually watch and may comment on it.

I can see it’s a very sensitive subject so I’m done in here now. Enjoy the win England

Fantastic acheivement for the team. Great game management as well after the winner, most of the game was spent in the corner which was brilliant play from England. Delighted for the United players especially.

He's living on the caf to pick fights with over posters via silly one-liners. Sometimes contradicting himself. Today he also appears to be drunk on nationalism. So I think it's best to ignore him.
You ok hun?

I’ll await your congratulation post to the England Womens team.

Because there just doesn’t feel like there’s any importance to it. Win or lose, the majority won’t care.
Depends what metric.

Plenty of my male friends are completely oblivious to stuff like champions league final occurring. If I was to text and ask one the result they wouldn't know without looking it up.

9m watched the SF so imagine today's TV audeince will be 10m + no problem so that's a decent chunk of population invested in the match.

Yes it's a different feel to intensity and tribalism of mens football but is that such a bad contrast when German anthem was completely respected at the start? And next to no chance of the carnage outside from last year's final occuring today.

I guess the equivalent in terms of feel is it's like the Hundred/T20 compared to a 5 day test in cricket. One's been around for over 100 years, other more a fun format that has grown massively in last 20 years.

Your always slagging off everything about England. You was the same at the men's Euros. Jog on mate.
