And @Sparky Rhiwabon Dortmund have already stated they won't even entertain offers below 120m euros for Bellingham this Summer. They are determined, just as with Sancho to price him out of a move this year and will likely, just as with Sancho, lower that next Summer.

So one Man City player, priced at 80m. One player that doesn't even slightly fit what ETH wants from his CM for 80m, and a 120m players. And you wonder why we don't have an equivalent plan B.

Keep dreaming though.

Bernardo Silva, Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice, etc. Don’t tell me we can’t sign them, because you don’t know that.
Sometimes, it's okay to say I don't know and it's the scout's role to identify the backups (rather than naming some random players )

That’s a ridiculous list, although I’d love us to bid for Silva just to piss off Barca and City in one move. Shame he only has eyes for Spain and the neighbours wouldn’t even entertain the thought…..

And then because they know how ridiculous they're being saying "dont say we cant sign them because you don't know"

Right, so you actually think we can sign a City midfielder? You do realise Jude and Rice would cost over 120m?

I actually do know that we cannot sign Jude and Bernado for various reasons.

1. They are too expensive
2. Jude is being touted for Liverpool, where he will compete for titles
3. How many times have you seen them play DM?

But there are plan B’s, they’re just nowhere near Frenkie’s level. So what’s the point in backing out with a month to go and getting a far inferior player?
Because even if we do get Frenkie we still need a midfielder. Unless you want to go into a new season with Fred, FDJ and Mctominay as our only midfield options ?

Anyone, I mean anyone, who thought we were going to buy two major midfield signings this summer was out of their minds.

Fact is FdJ is better than the Plan B's we have, and as per that tweet its clear we have plan B's. However a Neves is costing us 60-80m, tielemans is dog shit and is 25m, Sangare would need another player, or we train an existing one to play like FdJ and he is 35m, Ruiz we have no idea what he would cost unless he has a release fee I am unaware of? Even he is not as good as FDJ, even assuming you could pick him up for 45m.

None of the players on that original list are laughably likely to be brought in of Rice, bellingham, etc.

Patience people. There's another whole month of transfer window. This thread can become the longest ever.

Absolutely my thought, I'll rather we sign Neves than sign Rice, and for the price quoted he's a no no for me.
Neves would be better, and even then we would need to buy another midfielder to play with Neves. Fred/Neves would get murdered.

For those of you that don’t have Instagram. No idea what the butterflies are about?

feck me it gets explained on every single page of this thread. According to the top sources on this, no he cannot because that was not how his new deal was restructured.
He needs to mutually terminate his contract with his club just like every other player and just like with any player leaving a lot of money on the table, he is demanding a settlement package. Club & player can’t agree on that settlement.

Hence why we’re here.
Now I know why this thread has so many pages  :boring:

People saying Barca is a dump... guys, with all due respect, we're comparing to Manchester, not the rest of Southern Europe.

Like ETH says I'll rather we wait and get the right player than splash on a plan B, haven't we learn from the Donny deal?

I wonder if we'll sign a RW if this deal collapses.

Two big question marks are what if FdJ doesn't sign and what if Ronaldo leaves. Teams will fleece us if we start chasing targets two weeks from the deadline.

Its more the fact De Jong is like 10x levels above any other plan B would be.

The tweet actually says plan B and them not being good enough.

I dont even think you can name me 1 midfielder who we could sign, anywhere near his quality for the price.

I still don't think Fabian Ruiz is that far below FDJ's level. Real Madrid are linked with him now and he has only 1 year left on his contract. I also think Corentin Tolisso, while being quite far below FDJ and Ruiz' abilities, is still significantly better than Fred, and in a World Cup year he might want a move where he can get more gametime than Bayern.

I think something happens this week but what position do we finish with ..
A-Man United with FDJ
B-Man United without FDJ.

If this deal doesn't go through then I hope folk don't go overboard and start with childish vitriol directed towards either of them. Both of them would rather stay in Barcelona. Even if Frenkie agreed to a move and it was scuppered because Mikky doesn't want to leave then it doesn't matter. Just because we want the move doesn't mean someone else has to maintain a stuff upper lip and just go with it.

Having said that I really hope he's a United player this season.

Might change after seeing first few weeks of the season but right now my genuine thoughts are:

A- 5th but with a good chance of 4th if any big team slips up
B- 7th imo due to the improvements other clubs have made, including West Ham with the signing of Scamacca who I wanted Utd to sign

It’s really the era we live in. No one’s private life is private anymore. People put it all out on display, and it inevitably draws judgement, criticism or comment; especially when people have agendas. In this case wanting a player to join the club. Whether Frenkie’s fiancé wants to move to Manchester or not, is really an issue for her and Frenkie in private. And as much as I find some of the comments distasteful, I find almost as equally distasteful this constant parading of one’s private life in public. Inevitably the public personas are just a superficial, false representation of reality anyway.

I’m very happily out of touch. All this instagram bollocks is exactly that, bollocks. The people commenting on it are almost as sad as the people posting it. The fact we are getting sexist or misogynistic comments from middle aged men about the public postings of a player’s fiance, in her early 20s, is probably the least surprising, but most depressing part of this interminable saga.

The internet always brings out the worst in people. From the fake representations of life that social media gives us, to the anonymous toxic commentary it breeds. We are in the age of social media fundamentalism.

That's a pretty decent commentary speaking broadly on things.

I'd only note that specific to Mikky, there's two incongruences for me. First being that I consider her IG page to be so much more wholesome than the majority of internet personalities and fame seekers out there. It doesn't look like a traditional influencer page but rather someone that cares about family friends and of course her fiance, with some tasteful glamor shots of herself as well. Considering she has an online clothing brand, it's actually a pleasant surprise. I don't think her page looks all that different than many of my friends.

But all that really is a moot point. Social media can't become an excuse to lose our own integrity and respect for others. Sigh. Digressing and this is no longer the place for this topic. Appreciate your thoughts though.

I think we'll hear something this week, positive or not, but i imagine it'll be rather definitive.
I'm still very confident he'll join, my stance hasn't changed at all

If we sign Rice for anything more than £40m it’s a fecking travesty.

40m isn't going to sign a midfielder that's very important in a regular top 10 EPL team incase you're not aware of the financial stability of these teams, the only exception would be that the player is in the last year of his contract and is actively pushing for a move.

It depends on what formation we play and his position. ETH wants FDJ because he is capable of playing in the DM, CM and even AM positions. In games where we are playing against tough opposition, FDJ will be flanked by 2 sturdy CMs in Fred and McTominay. Otherwise it will be Bruno and Eriksen. Based on that, we can potentially reach 2nd or even 1st
