I think we can lock this thread. I don’t think it’s happening fellas. I originally thought De Jong was refusing to go due to deferred wages in a negotiating stance. Clearly, that is not the case. He just doesn’t want to come to United.

‘Pretty disappointed with ETH, Murtagh and Arnold. If we do not bring in a midfielder, AGAIN, after needing a DM for literally 3 years, they take full responsibility. This is why, back in January, I was furious that we didn’t buy a DM at that time. A lot of idiots in the Caf were like, “what’s the point in buying a DM before we get a permanent manager in?” Well, here we are. This is why we are a awfully run club.

The season starts next week and it's impossible for anyone to convince me this transfer window hasn't been yet another shitshow. There's a reason we're in this disgraceful position in the first place. Absolutely hopeless at recruiting quality.

Nooo, not Neves. Our midfield would be so lightweight. We need press resistant players.

And now we have little pull due to no CL and how much we embarrassed ourselves last season so it's more difficult.

The FDJ saga is one of the most complicated, contradicting transfers, ever. He better be worth the wait.

Don't think we'll be needing the backup option as I'm sure de Jong is coming. If we were to go for Neves, you know for a fact we'd be rinsed big time on a transfer fee

It’s not been the best window due to the delay with FDJ. But I do think it was thrown into disarray by Ronaldo sighting he wanted to leave a couple of days before we went out on tour. I believe we would have got a wide forward in if it wasn’t for the whole Ronaldo mess.

If we aren’t going for full midfield passing control then Neves pressing behind Eriksen makes a lot of sense

This type of comment drives me crazy..."clearly". There's no freakin clear anything with this. Its all perspective. I could make a case he's clearly coming if I picked and chose whatever media reports I wanted to make the case.

The facts are:

- We want him
- There are a lot of complicating factors involving funds between FDJ and Barca
- We continue to want him

If we move to the "seems"...:

- He seems to want to stay
- Barca seems to really want to sell him
- There seems to confidence from us we'll get him

We have no confirmed idea how FDJ actually feels about joining us though...just a lot of speculation. You could make a case either way based on the speculation. So nothing is actually "clear". I could easily see a scenario where FDJ gets his deferred payment and immediately agrees to the transfer and happily moves. There's been plenty of speculation I could site that says he wants to play for ETH and would take a move. So GTF out of here with the "clear" crap.
What are the benefits of coming to United other than money and playing for a manager he wasn't as close to as you claim reportedly? If it does happen it will be because nobody else was able to pay the fee we agreed with Barca, is that really the type of player we want as good as he is? somebody who was basically forced to join the club? What if we're bang average again next season with him on the team, how long before he decides Utd don't match his ambition and moves on? That doesn't seem to be taken into account because it seems like our transfer strategy all summer has been to fulfill ETH's wishes which is commendable but again not the smartest way to conduct transfer business at all.

Any Chelsea tier 1 sources reporting Chelsea being interested in FDJ?

Matt Law picked up on it yet? If anyone would know he would right..

Simon Johnson of The Athletic did, and he's Tier 1 for Chelsea. Before him, Jacob Steinberg reported something similar, but no one else has besides those two.
