Simple solution; have it in South Africa every time.Don't they do it in the winter because it would be too warm if not or is that somewhere else?

No, thanks for your suggestion thoughÁfrica should just have their tournaments in summer like everyone else.
Summer is problematic for football in many parts of Africa (rainy season, hot temperatures and humidity)Don't they do it in the winter because it would be too warm if not or is that somewhere else?
Thought so.Summer is problematic for football in many parts of Africa (rainy season, hot temperatures and humidity)
That and really just move the tournament to the European off season/mid year
It's been decided since 2019, and the CAF president has said the Cameroon edition was an exception. The default schedule for the cup is now summer.África should just have their tournaments in summer like everyone else.
Didn't know thatApparantly they moved the summer scheduled AFCON 2023 back to Jan 2024 because of the "weather conditions in Ivory Coast".
When you look up their weather the temperature is about the same, but it rains 2/3 of the time. I thought they blessed the rains down in Africa.
Yes. It's great for the fans and players and football associations. It might well be extremely hot in the summer especially, but does AFCON need to be held every 2 years? The Euros and the Asian Cup come along only once every 4 years, same for the Copa before they suddenly arranged one every year. Might well be beneficial for African football too.
Don't they do it in the winter because it would be too warm if not or is that somewhere else?
Not sure what's the reason tbh. But Copa América has taken place in Venezuela which is fecking hot.Don't they do it in the winter because it would be too warm if not or is that somewhere else?
Opto Poba plays for LazioNel futuro Opti Poba non le mangera le banana di Napoli?
He's talking about players from Africa, what's he meant to call them?Maybe becasue he said this:
"I told them lads, don't talk to me about Africans anymore!" said De Laurentiis during a streamed event."
Tomato, tomahtoI don't think he has a problem with the players representing their nations. I think he has a problem with said representation taking the players away from their club for crucial periods every two years.
This is more of a statement to try and get AFCON to fall into line and play a summer tourney rather than anything else.
Yep. That's what makes it yuckyTheory: refusing to hire African players because of their possible absence once every 2 years is as rational as refusing to hire women because of their possible absence due to pregnancy or "time of the month" events
Well we are talking about a European team in a European country. Some absolute mental posts in this thread, very Eurocentric.
Look at how many African teams participate in the World Cup, give your head a wobble, and then contemplate again whether having the African Cup every 4 years makes sense.
And no, it won't be moved to the summer permanently either, you exclude a lot of countries potentially hosting it as well. They could try alternating but that would make it very irregular.
Napoli's loss, it would be a shame for any African youth player in there academy who might dream of playing for Napoli.
Targeting the afconWell we are talking about a European team in a European country.
The world would be an awful place if everyone's view was that narrow.. oh wait..Well we are talking about a European team in a European country.
Which has no relevance to when the CAF should be played. As over have said, it's not possible to have it during summer without excluding the vast majority of countries due to climate.Well we are talking about a European team in a European country.

It's just a statement of facts. Europe is the Mecca of world football. The world would be an awful place if everyone's view was that narrow.. oh wait..
Not really. You’re losing players every two years for 2 months. It’s a legitimate football and business concern for clubs especially those below a certain income level.Thinly veiled "I refuse to sign Africans because I'm a racist"
The way he actually says it comes off bad. Sounds xenophobic and racist. Not really. You’re losing players every two years for 2 months. It’s a legitimate football and business concern for clubs especially those below a certain income level.
Mmm, not sure about racist, but definitely a bit xenophobic. Really fecking disrespectful more than anythingThe way he actually says it comes off bad. Sounds xenophobic and racist.
Borderline definitelyMmm, not sure about racist, but definitely a bit xenophobic. Really fecking disrespectful more than anything
Where are you getting the 2 months from? I might be miscalculating. Isnt it about a month if the player reaches the final? Not really. You’re losing players every two years for 2 months. It’s a legitimate football and business concern for clubs especially those below a certain income level.
Closer to 2Where are you getting the 2 months from? I might be miscalculating. Isnt it about a month if the player reaches the final?
Literally this.África should just have their tournaments in summer like everyone else.
How many players reach the final?Where are you getting the 2 months from? I might be miscalculating. Isnt it about a month if the player reaches the final?
We have the nations cup in January for the same reason there'll be a winter world cup. The weather.África should just have their tournaments in summer like everyone else.
How? There isn't even a month inbetween the first match and the final? Do they have 2 weeks training camp before?Closer to 2
closer to two, also don’t forget most of the best teams reach the QF.Where are you getting the 2 months from? I might be miscalculating. Isnt it about a month if the player reaches the final?
When the context is the African Cup of Nations, probably not.Using the word 'African' in a derogatory manner isn't a bit racist?
Yeah, what a brilliant idea no one really thought of beforeÁfrica should just have their tournaments in summer like everyone else.
As per FIFA this is illegal. Can be sued if there is a paper trail leading to him rejecting African players for this reason.https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/africa/62408379
Dunno bout this. I understand where he's coming from but this doesn't feel right
Think he was being sarcasticYeah, what a brilliant idea no one really thought of before
Outstanding take when we're about to have a world cup starting in November.África should just have their tournaments in summer like everyone else.
How is a discriminatory practice “reasonable”?Entirely reasonable. You pay players to play for your team - you don't want them disappearing for a month every two years (or 4 don't remember).
Much to the ire of practically everyone around the globe. Let's just ignore the fact that corruption, bribery and a misleading World Cup bid built on false-promises and exaggerated claims (ie: Qatar lied) essentially lead us down this road. The World Cup was supposed to take place this summer in state-of-the-art stadiums with fancy air conditioning, remember? Ha. More to the point, a World Cup being held during the winter is not the norm, never has been, and probably never will be. Not an apt comparison whatsoever.Outstanding take when we're about to have a world cup starting in November.
